Sorry. Story rambles too much for my tastes. It's not that it's a bad story, not just one for me. Stream of conscious style, in my opinion. Sorry. I am sure there are others who will love it.

Robert Hill's writing in The Remenants took awhile to learn to follow, but as I read I realized the language the author chose, including the words, metaphors, and rambling sentences help me sink into the world of his characters. What started out as off-putting because enjoyable and interesting. The book starts with remnants or the nonagenarians of New Eden and then tells their backstory. I really enjoyed this book. It was unique and respectful to characters in from an impoverished, closed community.

The Remnants is a different sort of book. Almost whimsical at times, it's a story of love and friendship. The reader has to be willing to be transported to New Eden, a special town with it's own sort of mystery and wonder. Everyone is related to everyone else, there's a special language that takes a bit of getting used to.

The Remnants is a great book, for someone who is not me.
