In this book, Detective Peabody calls Lieutenant Eve Dallas a “badass cop,” and I couldn’t agree more! As the lead character, she’s everything I love in a crime drama heroine—smart, efficient, witty, and strong. I’m thrilled to have discovered this series, and I already know it’s going to stay in heavy rotation for me.
Even though I’m starting out of order (this is book 44), I had no trouble diving right in. The story hooked me from the beginning when Lt. Dallas and her husband, Roarke, came across a battered woman running into the street. From there, Dallas was on the case, working to uncover not only what happened to this victim but also how it connected to other assaults and even the murders of several husbands.
The cases unfolded in a steady, methodical way—easy to follow yet full of surprises that kept me guessing. I especially loved how the winter setting and looming blizzard added to the tension (I’m a big fan of snow in stories). Roarke also stood out as a fantastic partner, offering unwavering support and thoughtful insights when Dallas sought his perspective.
This book was such an adventure, and now I can’t wait to read more from this series!

I'm always so happy when I get to dive into the future with Eve, Roarke and co.
This one kept me guessing and even with so many books in the series it still keeps me hooked.

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I had also gathered two other books from the series and could not make it far into those either. I typically enjoy police procedurals but something about this writing style did not sit properly with me. I felt really disconnected from the main character. I may try to pick up the series from the first book and maybe that will change my review some, but it's a long series so that may take some time.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. It just wasn't for me.

5 stars
This is the first book, written by this author, that I have read. And I am thrilled that there are 61 more in this series. This is number 44.
I immediately found book number one and started reading. I wanted to know how all of this started. How did detective Eve Dallas meet Roake. What is this tragic mystery of her past we need to know. I am very interested. Book one begins just as exciting as this book 44.
Echoes in death is a murder thriller investigation. It begins with an exciting scene and never stops. The murders are gruesome, the investigation intense and the ending satisfying.
Makes for a very satisfying read.
I recommend this series.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Echoes in Death by J. D. Robb in exchange for an honest review. I love that with the books in this series you can read them in order, all haphazard or just one here and there, and it's still a good, compelling read. This book does have scenes of sexual and domestic violence in it that may be hard for some readers, but I feel that Robb always writes with respect and caring.

This was an engaging and well-written book that kept my interest throughout. The author delivered strong ideas and storytelling, with memorable moments that made it stand out. While there were a few areas that could have been expanded or polished further, overall it was an enjoyable and worthwhile read. I would recommend it to others looking for a thoughtful and rewarding experience.

I read this book immediately when it came
Out. The in death series gives readers everything that they can want…..police procedural, mystery, found family, and romance with some steam.
If you’ve never picked up a book in this series start with book 1 and watch the character growth and development which will make you fall in love with this amazing group of characters.

I only picked up this ARC because it was advertised as a good entry point into this series, but quickly realized that I didn’t agree with this. I was very confused about everything because this is set in the future and it wasn’t mentioned in the synopsis. The author also didn’t do anything to contextualize the setting, the characters, or their dynamics, that made me feel lost and disinterested very quickly, so I ended up DNFing. I might try to start the series with the first one in the future.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing this eARC. All opinions are my own.

I struggled to read this book. I know it was written years ago, but the verbiage these characters used were things I've never heard. Like calling a phone a "link". WHAT?! Who talks like that. It was weird and it made it hard to follow along. I liked the murder/chasing the killer aspect of this book, but I won't be reading any more from this series.

Another gripping emotionally charged mystery that blends futuristic crime-solving with deep character development. The author masterfully weaves suspense with psychological depth, exploring themes of trauma, justice, and human darkness. The pacing is tight, the mystery is cleverly layered, and they dynamic between Eve and Roarke adds emotional richness to the high - stakes investigation. While the subject matter is darker and more intense than some earlier books, it is both thrilling and poignant. A compelling read for the longtime fans and a strong entry point for newcomers looking for a smart, suspenseful crime novel with heart. I am new to this series and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This series 'In Death' is just one of the reasons why I love Nora Roberts / JD Robb so much.
How in the world can she write so many to a series and keep me coming back and enjoy every single one?
Eve is a such a dynamic character and I just love her. I love her annoyance and the way she cares deeply.
The mystery of the rapist turned murder ' the Devil' had me flipping through the book like crazy.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press.

My daughter introduced me to J.D. Robb, however I had yet read one of her books. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Echoes in Death. It was enjoyable and entertaining. The writing style was such that I was captivated, and the descriptive nature has me wanting to read more, and more. The character development weren't flat, they had depth to them. I enjoyed the FMC-- Eve's relationship with her husband Rourke added a nice blend of suspense and romance.
Thank you J.D. Robb and Netgalley for providing me with this ARC copy of Echoes in Death. I look forward to reading more of your work.

Echoes in Death brings back Detective Eve Dallas in another page-turning, suspenseful mystery. When a rapists progresses to murderer, Eve must pull out all the stops in her investigation to stop a murderer from adding to his body count. The romance between Eve and Roarke is on point and adds just the right mix to the story for romantic suspense fans with a big exclamation point as to why this series is so long lived. My voluntary and unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke are driving home in the middle of the night after attending a fancy event. A naked woman is wandering in the middle of the snowy street in front of their car. They stop and take her to the hospital, she says she was attacked by “the Devil”. The naked woman turns out to be Daphne Strazza and her husband is found dead in their home where they had both been attacked. Eve Dallas is a police lieutenant and oversees the investigation into what happened. It turns into a major investigation when it is realized several earlier cases had similar details. The book was very procedural, going through all the steps the police follow to solve the case. The characters were interesting and the story moved along well. This was the first book in the Eve Dallas series I’ve read but it works as a stand alone. I give the book 4 stars out of 5.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was suspenseful, fun, action-packed, steamy and I couldn't put it down I loved the details included that personalized each of the main characters and the secondary characters, as well as the setting. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is part of the "In Death" series. I enjoyed this book and will continue to look for the next book in this series. This author is a "must read" for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the 44th book in the In Death series featuring Lt. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody.
On the night Eve and Roarke return from a charity event, a woman stumbles into their path. She is beaten, raped and distraught. Upon arrival at the hospital, they discover that this woman, Daphne Strazza and her husband had a social event. Eve and Roarke go to the Strazza home and, upon finding Anthony Strazza dead in the bedroom chamber, Eve calls in her homicide squad. As Eve and Peabody investigate, it soon becomes clear that other cases bear similarity to the Strazzas. But what is the link that ties them all together?
A fascinating case that kept me turning the pages. I have been remiss in my other reviews of the series to speak about how wonderful the relationship between Eve and Peabody is. They have such a great banter that I love all their scenes. Not to mention the marital relationship between Roarke and Eve

Echoes in Death is a chilling and suspenseful installment in J.D. Robb’s In Death series, where NYPD Lt. Eve Dallas confronts a disturbing new case involving a traumatized victim and a cold-blooded killer. With a strong cast of characters and a mystery that slowly unravels, it’s a gripping standalone read perfect for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Loved this book had a lot of police procedure and Eve finding out who did it loved the characters involved it felt at a good pace
Now I need to read other titles
Thanks for the offer to read this book

This is the second Lieutenant Eve Dallas novel I have read and I liked this much better than my first read. (Dark in Death). I felt the story telling was more precise (less cluttered with garment details, clearer language/less slang). While I guessed the villain fairly early on, I was committed to the end to see if my guess was correct. I enjoyed the found family aspect with Eve’s co-workers. And Roarke, Eve’s romantic partner, is a swoony character. While I got a glimpse into Eve’s childhood in this story, I’m curious as to why she is socially awkward. Not necessarily with other people, but with her not understanding common idioms such as “cake walk”. I guess I will have to start at the beginning!

This was the 44th installment in the Eve Dallas series set in New York. This was my FIRST book I have read in the series and it can be read as a standalone but I think I would have gained a deeper understanding of the FMC's traumatic past-which were referenced throughout- if I read the previous books in the series. The book is said to be set in 2062 but the futuristic setting didn’t fully convince me, despite the technological touches meant to give it a dystopian edge.
The story kicks off when Eve and her husband Roarke nearly run over a naked, injured woman. They rush her to the hospital, uncover her identity, and soon discover her husband has been murdered in what appears to be a home invasion. As the investigation unfolds, Eve realizes this is the third such attack—though the first to end in murder.
The plot offers some twists, but most were easy to see coming—I figured out the “who” early on, though not entirely the “why.” Some of the dialogue felt awkward, but the characters, especially the sharp, fearless Eve and her witty partner Peabody, kept me hooked.
Overall, the book was a solid read with engaging characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Martin's Press for the ARC.
