Eleven books in and I’m afraid I can’t quite wrap my head around the complex series story arc. I was on board with the grim reaper thing and I almost got my head around the god thing, but things have gone a little bit crazier with each book and I’m not sure I’ve fully digested the last few additions to Charley’s identity and purpose very well.

Anyways. I’m enjoying the parts of the story I can follow. The investigation into Reyes’ adoptive parents is all kinds of creepy. I love his adopted brother too. I kinda wish Reyes and Charley would sort out their trust issues and work together but they are the ultimate dysfunctional star-crossed lovers, and at this point their chaotic relationship is almost amusing.

As the plot gets more and more complicated, there are moments I question my loyalty to the series. At the start, each book actually finished. I don’t like the cliffhangers at the end of the most recent books and this one has the most dramatic non-ending yet. I’m still enjoying the author’s writing style and the humour at the heart of the series. And I really like the non-celestial characters. Cookie and Amber get more interesting with each book and Uncle Bob is an increasingly complex character. Garrett, Angel and Osh are fabulous.

I’m almost ready for Charley and Reyes’ story to be over. I’d like to see a spinoff that fast forwards twenty years to give us Beep’s story but I’m not sure there’s much further the author can take this series as it is.

This is (not surprisingly) the eleventh book in this series – and I have to say that I am grateful that I am reading these close together and know that I have the next one waiting for me on my Kindle... because the pace has certainly picked up, and I have a feeling that everything is about to explode!

Although there is a lot of high tension and drama in this book, there is also some absolutely wonderful humour. It felt to me like the real Charley was back, as rather than being frustrated at every turn, finally she is getting to understand the extent of her powers. She struggles with just how significant they are, but Reyes et al do their best to explain. Rest assured that there are also some lovely intimate moments between the two of them too – as they explore their intimacy in different planes... hot!

The Fosters (who stole Reyes as a baby) turn out to be even more awful than we could have ever expected, and it is not difficult to understand why Reyes was fighting with Charley, asking her to stop investigating. The forces on her side, and those who are not, are slowly coming together and the tension is rising.

I daren't say more, as you should experience it directly, but I definitely recommend that you do as we are coming very close to getting the answers which have been building over every book.

Book 11 in the Charley Davidson series was a complicated, twisted story. This installment has added many intertwined story arcs and character complications.

Of course, Charley is still Charley, although she is maturing as we go along. Unfortunately, the relationship between her and Reyes is just as dysfunctional as ever, and I just hope that they figure this stuff out soon.

The investigations were pretty deep this time, and mostly involved minors. The Fosters are now on Charley's radar, as she's been hired by their son to figure out WHO they really are. So, not only is she looking into them on her own time, but now she's getting paid to get the dirt she really wants to know. Their involvement in missing children is pretty intense, and some of this investigation actually turned my stomach. On top of that craziness, Amber is also involved with a crazy stalker – which didn't end the way I thought it would.

Besides these cases, which tie into the paranormal stuff, not much happens in the bad gods/purging the world of evil that Charley is supposed to be doing. The end, of course, was a game changer and I need to see how everything plays out.

Imagine Charlie with more power? Goddess kind of power, the world is in trouble. As if it is not enough that her husband is son of the devil. Now all the bad supernatural beings wanted the pair dead, and their baby, because the baby will even be more powerful than the parents.

We have that scenario, and all the ghosts of this world also needed to pass through her. The detective agency is also handling its own problems, but Cooks is up to the task. I think? The thing is what do I know? The gang are all present and kicking (if Charlie does not kill them all). As long as there is coffee though, I think they are safe.
I love this series. I don't think I've been dissapointed by any installment yet.

More fun and games for Charley and the gang, and a real cliff hanger of an ending that will shock readers.,Much of this book focuses on Amber, which I did not mind at all, she's a great character. She is being stalked and the gang work together to solve the problem and identify the stalker. However the action really takes off in th last part of the book when something happens that will have dramatic and far reaching consequences, and not just for Charley and Reyes.

Review:

Since I read all of the Charley Davidson in one long run, yes, I had not read any of the series yet, I decided to write one review for the previously released books and one for the last book in the series.

First let me say, these are wickedly awesome books! Loved the story line, the writing and the characters. For me it was great to read them all at once and a little sad, since there will not be anymore. One of the things I loved about the books was Charley and her balls to the wall, help whoever, whenever she can attitude. Now that sure got her in lots of trouble, but it was so much fun to read. I loved the snarky witty dialogue and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter cracked me up. Now, it is not all fun and games in this story, there were points when I was crying and points I was on the edge of my seat with the action going on. I have to say on the whole this is one of the best and most well-rounded series I have read where I was not once bored or wanting to put down a book.

I am not sure what this Author has coming next, but she has me on the hook for whatever it is.

5 Big Stars for all of the books in the series

*I voluntarily read reader copies of each book provided by the publisher for review.*

Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, book eleven of the Charley Davidson series, is just as strong and entertaining as the rest. While I am happy to discover more about certain characters and events, it is also bittersweet knowing things are coming to a final conclusion. I need to know what happens next but each word read is a word closer to the end. Aagh. So I console myself with the surety of two more books to devour before the true series end.

I read a complementary ebook from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. All opinions are my own. Review posted on NetGalley, Amazon, Goodreads, and BookBub.

WHAT?? A Reyes cliffhanger!
I loved this book!! There were a good three crazy storylines here, and it was all just enjoyable. Reyes and Charley once more had the adventure of trying to find the Gods who escaped and where they were hiding all while trying to figure out how they were going to save Beep.

Really getting convoluted, and the religious aspect is amping up. Still snarky, but learning slowly her abilities. Not as much Cookie or Ubie in this one, but more Reyes background and that part of the story arc is finished. The cases she has in this edition are all involved with Reyes basically. More sex and seems it's all physical act and not too much tenderness, disappointed in that. The ending is a cliff hanger so a warning there. Looking forward to the next edition.

I loved this entire series so much I read the entire thing back to back. Charley Davidson is fascinating, and has jumped to one of my favorite Urban Fantasy Heroines ever.

O my... that's not what I expected in this book Let me after the last sentence - I had not expected that completely, but with this grim reaper nothing NOTHING goes as you expected.
The new case is The most personal but will that matter in The End? Add to it enraged mother that Has to kick a$$es of two other gods... well not that pinky future but will Charlie and Her crew figure it out? And ofc There will lot of secreters between our two mc.
Some New cards are revealed but I still don't know where The story is going in The End. And in This Series I Love that I have not expectations.

Ok so I am not a fan of series that have more than 5-6 books in it. I find that i typically get bored or disinterested after book 5. Darynda Jones seriously has writing chops and can make every single book unique and full of excitement not to mention pee your pants funny! I just have grown to love this series so much and dont want it to end I need at least 20 more books in the series!

Ho-ly heck!!! Let me just say I am so very thankful I don’t have to wait for the next book to be released. This series has taken me on one wild ride but I never in a million years expected this to happen and I’m about to chew my nails off because of it. And I’ve got book twelve queued up and ready.

This time around things are a bit slower for Charlie, at least in Charley’s world which is really saying something because the girl is always in the middle of something. During her “down” time she’s taking lessons from Reyes and I appreciated them because they also helped me to understand exactly what/who Charley was. The total expanse of it was a great reminder as we near the end.

The relationship between her and Reyes is so very moving at times that it brings tears to my eyes. He’s just so perfect for her just as she is for him. I love his protectiveness for not only her but for Beep as well. I just wish we had more of him…always more. I’m greedy like that.

While this might seem slower, that doesn’t mean that things don’t heat up rather quickly – again towards the end as these books tend to do – and even while Charley battles her enemies she is constantly evolving into who she truly is. I’ve been shell shocked one too many times during this series to let this author catch me unaware again, or so I say each time, and yet she does so, again and again and again. This time even as I felt sick at what had happened, things took a turn and suddenly it was all so much worse! Thus the nail biting.

So yeah, I’ve got the next one ready but unfortunately life is going to force me to put it on hold for a few days. However, I might just be able to sneak in the first chapter…

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eleventh Grave in MoonlightBy Darynda Jones

4 stars.

Darynda Jones fiction series combining action, supernatural and romance. Featuring Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people, and it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.

Now, Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction. But the forces of hell are determined to see Charley banished forever to the darkest corners of another dimension. With the son of Satan himself as her husband and world-rocking lover, will Charley be able to defeat the ultimate evil and find a way to have her happily ever after, after all?

While not my usual genre, I found the books engaging and face paced to keep me picking up title after title.

This series has had me hooked from book one and just keeps getting more addicting with each new journey. An emotional, fun, sexy, engaging and thrilling adventure that takes you through exciting highs to heart breaking lows and makes you want to see Charley and the gang finally win. Looking forward to the next adventure.

ARC Kindly provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read these books over and over and over, and everytime I read them I fall more in love with it. The only thing that frustrates me is the waiting in between and for the ultimate fight, other than that and is like an addiction.

I am too sad to see this series over, but something tells me this will not be the end at all.

If you haven't read this series, start now, it is just amazing!

Thank you for the early copy.

I recommend this eleventh novel of the series to fans of urban fantasy with an interesting plot. One of my favorites of a series that I've overall enjoyed. It deals with paranormal elements, the main character is a grim reaper, and these novels always follow an interesting plot and mystery.

BOOK BLURB

A typical day in the life of Charley Davidson involves cheating husbands, missing people, errant wives, philandering business owners, and oh yeah...demons, hell hounds, evil gods, and dead people. Lots and lots of dead people. As a part time Private Investigator and full-time Grim Reaper, Charley has to balance the good, the bad, the undead, and those who want her dead. In this eleventh installment, Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction. But the forces of hell are determined to see Charley banished forever to the darkest corners of another dimension. With the son of Satan himself as her husband and world-rocking lover, maybe Charley can find a way to have her happily ever after after all.

My Thoughts

As the series grows so does Charley Davidson's character.

She has evolved and is trying to mature but old habits die hard and her go-to snark is as prevalent, and entertaining, as ever.

Our heroine is married to the son of Satan, a goddess with unlimited powers-if she could only remember what they all are and how to access them on command-funny, sexy and about as unserious as any leading female in a book can get. This time around Charley is more than holding her own and in fact even throws in some surprises even Reyes never saw coming.

The book quote refers to a typical day in Charley's life, lately those are small potatoes in comparison to her latest case which hits closer to home than even Ms. Davidson is comfortable with.

As harsh as it sounds there is a reckoning coming for one of the people in Charley's life if she cannot find a way to stop it, a reckoning that by all rights has been earned but is still a hard pill to swallow for her. Especially since the actions that were taken on her behalf is the cause.

Questions answered with more questions needing answers and a headache inducing ending that leaves the reader in limbo.

Charley's latest set of circumstances is a double edged sword that could swing either way and one hopes in Book 12 that it swings in her favor.

Charley gets herself into all kinds of trouble as usual and Reyes is always right there with her. This series is truly addictive and the more I read it the more I have to know what the heck is going to happen to these characters next, and for goodness sake where is Blip and when is she going to come back into the picture... Inquiring minds and all that ;)

We’ve come to the point in the story that spoiler-free is nearly impossible, while all of the competing and occasionally complimentary threads have crossed,, twisted, knotted and unwound in ways unexpected. Sure, Charley is still learning more about herself, and the struggles between she and Reyes dance between small flare ups into full-blown conflagrations. And when Cookie’s daughter Amber is threatened, and the people who kidnapped the infant Reyes before selling him to the man who would ‘raise’ him in a soup of manipulation, abuse and torture come into focus with yet another ‘son’ looking for answers, the tensions between Charley and Reyes hit an all-time high. Add in a threat to Ubie’s life, and his being marked for hell, and there is plenty to keep everyone busy. There is one god left on the plane, hunting for Beep and doing everything in his power to get access, after removing Reyes’ sister, Kim from the picture in the last book, the threats to her life haven’t diminished.

Yet, despite Reyes being furious with Charley, and every man in her life trying to set ultimatums and rules for her to follow, all of which are taken with as much grace as one might expect (none), he’s decided to push her to discover more of her potential and see the world and her human, mortal being as just one grain of sand in the giant desert that is her being. From dematerializing her and taking her into the Sahara, to pushing her off a building, and making her learn how to ‘direct’ her travel, she’s getting in touch with her ‘god’ side, even as she struggles with the understanding. Oh – and arrogant (to say the least) angels are everywhere – she’s feeling very watched and frustrated by the control that the men in her life are trying to exert.

Oh Charley is going to discover the true dichotomy of humanity, and just how very different she is in so many ways. But, underneath it all, that good heart and desire to keep things ‘fair’ and see that bad is punished and good survives is there, it’s just becoming far more clear to her that her choices, the information she doesn’t yet know, and the truths she has hidden from herself, as well as an experiment gone horribly wrong, at least for the short term….Let’s just say, our girl has had a ton of life lessons in a short time, and none of them are particularly palatable. Mixing her own palpable desires to do good (or at least mitigate harm) and the bone-deep love that she feels for those in her circle have your heart breaking for the choices, very difficult choices, and options that are left to her. I don’t think that her growth in terms of her powers or abilities have ever reached the level they have in this book, and the sheer number of edge of the seat moments kept me whipping through the pages, needing to make sure everyone came out unscathed, or at least breathing. Yep, it’s starting to feel like we are working to one epic climax, and it’s up to Charley and what she does with her back to the wall and the fate of humanity in her hands.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Love this series! It is one of my favorites to read. Always a thrilling story line. Charley is my favorite.

Charley gets a call about a haunting, and the twist in the first scene is that the doctor is the ghost. That was a pretty good hook. We also get a quick recap of how we got to where we are, and you learn all the information you need to understand the book, which is pretty great. I liked this book a lot. I did pretty much freak out at the end and run for the twelfth, because I NEED TO KNOW what would happen between them. Reyes essentially sacrifices himself for the greater good. And even if the god inside of him doesn't really care about Charley, surely he'll care at least a little about Beep?
