A very good read. The author makes fine use of her law enforcement background in this tense and gripping novel. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I found this book hard to read , it did not hold my interest. The storyline wasn’t interesting to me. I put it down several times, could not finish.

Police procedural set in Phoenix Arizona featuring Detective Veranda Cruz and her battle against a drug cartel.

Written with real insight, the author being a police chief, it is very strong in terms of how an investigation builds and is also very good in terms of background. Being a Brit who has only once been to Phoenix I found it very evocative and it certainly brought back many memories of the place.

So, in essence, a very good, fast paced thriller with good characters, a well realised storyline and a very authentic setting. Recommended

The pacing and the non-stop action is evident in how well the narrative explores the drama contained in the pages of this riveting tale. Veranda is a strong and determined heroine and I like how she is portrayed. The dialogue was engaging and the well-written tome speaks for itself in capturing the essence of what's going on with the cartel and Veranda's quest to put an end to it. This was a good book and I like what I read.

Blood's Echo is a fast-paced juggernaut of a thriller led by a strong, interesting woman. While Veranda Cruz tries to bring down one of the most powerful drug cartels in the world, readers learn quite a bit about family dynamics-- both within Veranda's large and caring Hispanic family and the drug cartel itself.

Veranda and Cole Anderson, the arson investigator, are the strongest characters in the book, and while the secondary cast is good, it's not as developed as these two. I look forward to seeing other characters fleshed out as the series progresses.

Maldonado is good with action scenes. Anything to do with bringing down the cartel and the search for a possible mole within the police department is exciting and fast-paced.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this first Veranda Cruz mystery set in Phoenix, Arizona, and I'm looking forward to others.

Bloods Echo by Isabel Maldonado is a pacy page turner - I read it in one sitting, could not put it down!

Veranda Cruz is a narcotics detective in the Phoenix PD engaged in a highly personal war with a Mexican drug cartel who threaten her and her family. There is some good misdirection, a side order of romance and a great climax to this first novel plus a slight opening in the ending to pave the way for a follow on novel.

This is good easy reading and would make a great movie, well worth trying out.

I am reviewing this via NetGalley. It is a gripping read full of surprises in an entirely believable story. The characters are well drawn and the writing is high quality. The sense of purpose of the leading character makes the story and ensures which side the reader is on! This would also make a good film. Give yourself to met I read it. You'll not want to put it down.

Detective Veranda Cruz is determined to stop the Villalobos cartel. For personal reasons
her obsession with them will not quit and as she gets closer they target both her and her family.
The plot is strong and the story flows at a very good pace, creating suspense all along the way.
The characters were well-rounded and realistic, and the story beautifully written.
I Liked Veranda Cruz, she is so supporting of her family, so strong in her convictions,
and does her job with integrity and courage.
I will definitely watch for a sequel and recommend Blood's Echo to others.
