Description

In the long-awaited sequel to Fablehaven, the dragons who have been kept at the dragon sanctuaries no longer consider them safe havens, but prisons and they want their freedom. The dragons are no longer our allies....

In the hidden dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost, Celebrant the Just, King of the Dragons, plots his revenge. He has long seen the sanctuaries as prisons, and he wants nothing more than to overthrow his captors and return the world to the Age of Dragons, when he and his kind ruled and reigned without borders. The time has come to break free and reclaim his power.

No one person is capable of stopping Celebrant and his dragon horde. It will take the ancient order of Dragonwatch to gather again if there is any chance of saving the world from destruction. In ancient times, Dragonwatch was a group of wizards, enchantresses, dragon slayers, and others who originally confined the majority of dragons into sanctuaries. But nearly all of the original Dragonwatch members are gone, and so the wizard Agad reaches out to Grandpa Sorenson for help.

As Kendra and Seth confront this new danger, they must draw upon all their skills, talents, and knowledge as only they have the ability to function together as a powerful dragon tamer. Together they must battle against forces with superior supernatural powers and breathtaking magical abilities.

How will the epic dragon showdown end? Will dragons overthrow humans and change the world as we know it?
In the long-awaited sequel to Fablehaven, the dragons who have been kept at the dragon sanctuaries no longer consider them safe havens, but prisons and they want their freedom. The dragons are no...

What a FUN BOOK!
I love one of the opening scenes where Seth has fun with one of his "non-seeing" cousins-- to the cousins chagrin :)

Then Seth and Kendra are off to become caretakers themselves--
What great adventures and possible doom await ahead!
Can Seth and Kendra keep the world safe from dragons?
Or will the dragons be unleashed to bring unspeakable destruction?

LOVED the Fablehaven series! I was thrilled to see that Mull was revisiting it. Dragonwatch was a spectacular start to a new series. This 49yo woman can't wait to read the next installment!

Like many fans of the Fablehaven series, I was thrilled when I heard that Brandon Mull would be writing another! I have been eagerly anticipating its release - and, after reading it, I can say that the book itself met all of my expectations. A truly talented author, whose adept "world building" will leave readers captivated and whose characters are solid and consistent enough to quickly seem like old friends. I strongly recommend the entire Fablehaven series, including "Dragonwatch", to any fan of Middle Grade fantasy! As always with these books, I am anxious to see what will happen next!

Brandon Mull has done it again. Seth and Kendra are back! Their world is both lush and dangerous, and the adventures are heart-stopping. This is a must-read for all fans of Fablehaven.

I am a HUGE Fablehaven fan, considering it my all-time favorite middle grade series (aside from Harry Potter – the untouchable). I loved it for its fun storyline, boundless surprises, and sense of wonder. If you'd asked me which element of Fablehaven I'd wanted to read more about, the dragon sanctuary would have been my pick, hands down. Not only was it a magical place to visit, but I thought Mull had only scratched the surface of what it had to offer. I was thrilled when Dragonwatch was announced!

Before diving in, I'd been under the impression that Dragonwatch was going to be a true spinoff with new characters and everything. But it isn't a spinoff… IT'S A CONTINUATION!!! Taking place right where Kendra and Seth left off their adventures in Keys to the Demon Prison (Book #5). Reading about these characters again felt like coming home. I remembered how sad I was when the original series ended, so Dragonwatch was a special treat for sure – and there's more to come!

The best part of this novel for me were the dragons – I loved the different varieties and personalities, and think we'll only get more detail as the series continues. There was also a fun adventure that included lots of creative obstacles for the characters to figure out and overcome. The plot was well constructed, but I don't think that was completely evident from the beginning. The first third of the book, while immersed in Fablehaven awesomeness, took a long time to get to the selling point of the novel – the dragon sanctuary. While I enjoyed every moment, I can't help but wonder if I would have enjoyed it a mite more had it moved along a bit quicker.

Overall, I'm excited for more adventures in this world and can't wait for the next book!

Just what we have all been waiting for! Brandon Mull once again returns to the exciting lives of Kendra and Seth Sorenson. Everything that got me hooked into Fablehaven was present in this new adventure. There is action, adventure, fantasy, danger, and even a little romance. Mull’s world building is a force to be reckoned with and takes the readers into brand new world with every turn of the page. His stories are solid and fast paced with just the right amount of humor. I cannot wait to read it all over again!

**Received and early review copy from Netgalley the book will be released on March 14, 2017

I am in love!!! For anyone that love the original Fablehaven series this book will be right up your alley. The story picks up shortly after the events in the last series making it fell as if we have lost no time at all. The world building is incredible, and the nonstop adventure makes for an intriguing book that I found unable to put down. Excellent book for fantasy lovers all around. I give it 5/5 stars and am really looking forward to the next books in this new series!!!

Needless to say, I have many a happy student in my school now that they know this book is on the way. They will not be disappointed and I can see many of them wanting to reread the previous titles again because of all the "look backs" and reminders of what happened in those books. How could you not? Fun read, great seeing Kendra and Seth again and meeting the cousins who are starting their journey much the same way Seth and Kendra did. And Tess. Oh how I love Tess and her fairy ways. Looking forward to adding this one to the collection.

Brandon Mull is, without question, among my favorite authors. When I had the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of Dragonwatch, I jumped at it. As expected, I was not disappointed. This is classic Brandon Mull--excellent world building, powerful character development, and loads of page turning entertainment. DO. NOT. MISS.

Kendra, Seth and all of their friends are back (and we meet new ones as well) and this time it is the dragons that are causing all of the problems. It seems that Kendra and Seth are needed at another preserve, Wyrmroost. Can the two keep it together and save the preserve and calm the dragons, or will Seth's antics leave his sister staring the dragons down on her own?

If you loved Fablehaven you are in for a treat, it is as if you never left, this is the story continued, and it is wonderful. Action, suspense, twists and turns, and don't for get the satyrs, yep they are back as well and helping Seth at every turn. The book is totally awesome and not to be missed by fans of Brandon Mull's Fablehaven world, we only hope he doesn't make us wait to awful long for the next one.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull! I absolutely love the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull and Dragonwatch is a continuation of that series, so I was excited to dive right in and devour the book! The prologue is told in the grandfather's point of view. The story is told in alternating points of view with each chapter, taking turns between Kendra and Seth, the grandkids. Seth is a shadow charmer. Kendra is fairykind. The two siblings can charm dragons as long as they are together. Because of this, they have been asked to be caretakers of a dragon sanctuary, Wyrmroost. They are charged with finding a scepter that will help keep the sanctuary safe and, on their ques,t they run into many interesting creatures: dire bears, a troll and a very old dragon whose help they need. They work together well and it seems that Seth has become a bit wiser. It sure is nice to be back in the world of Fablehaven. 5 stars for this book that brings readers back to the adventurous Fablehaven life and I am looking forward to more books in this series!

Fans of Brandon Mull’s FABLEHAVEN middle grade fantasy series now have a chance to revisit that world with Dragonwatch (2017), the first book in his new FABLEHAVEN ADVENTURE series. In the world of FABLEHAVEN, mythical beings like fairies, centaurs, dragons and demons actually exist, living in hidden, protected sanctuaries where most humans are unaware of their existence. Even if you enter a preserve, unless you drink the milk of a magical milch cow, fairies look like dragonflies or butterflies, nipsies seem to be mice, satyrs appear as goats, and so on.

In the original FABLEHAVEN series, Kendra and her younger brother Seth helped protect their grandparents’ estate, Fablehaven, and the other sanctuaries against the evil magical forces that threatened them. This battle against evil culminated in the fifth book, Keys to the Demon Prison, in which dragons assisted the humans and good magical creatures in fighting demons before returning to their (very spacious) dragon sanctuaries.
Dragonwatch begins a new set of adventures for Seth and Kendra, now ages thirteen and fifteen. The dragons are now getting restive in their preserves and want their freedom … which would include minor things like, say, terrorizing the world. In the dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost, Celebrant the Just, king of the Dragons, is on the offensive, trying to break free of the magic that binds him and his dragons to remain in the sanctuary. The binding magic is weakening, and the Dragonwatch organization, a group of wizards, enchantresses, and others devoted to ensuring that dragons never tyrannize the world again, believe it’s because the treaty with the dragons requires a human caretaker ― which the current wizard caretaker is not, exactly. The caretaker also needs to be a “dragon tamer,” someone who is not paralyzed by fear when conversing with a dragon.
When they are physically touching each other, Seth and Kendra are a dragon tamer. Though they’re young, they also have rare magical abilities (gained through their prior adventures) that may make them the best hope for saving the world from destruction by dragons. Of course, the answer to keeping the dragons safely bound is not as simple as everyone hoped, and Kendra and Seth end up going on a quest within Wyrmroost to find the magical item that will restore the spell to its full power.

The FABLEHAVEN universe is a hugely appealing one for young readers who like magical adventures. Kendra is the cautious one who always wants to keep the rules; Seth is more reckless and willing to take a crazy chance, even if it’s dangerous, which has often gotten him into trouble in the past. But now the only way to defeat the dragon threat may be to take chances and think outside the box. Seth also has a quick wit; his often funny dialogue supplies most of the humor in Dragonwatch.

The plot periodically gives off a whiff of going down a predictable path, the magical quest where the main characters must overcome one obstacle or test, then another, then another, to achieve their goal and find the McGuffin, excuse me, the magic scepter that will solve their dragon problem … at least for the time being. But there was enough creativity in the setting and in the nature of the obstacles Seth and Kendra encounter that even as an adult reader I didn’t get bored, and middle grade readers should find it engaging.

Dragonwatch picks up right where (and when) the Keys to the Demon Prison left off, and there are many, many references to events and characters from the prior books in the FABLEHAVEN series. Although Brandon Mull fills in much of the backstory, I’d strongly recommend reading the entire set of FABLEHAVEN books before beginning this one. Speaking from personal experience ― I have three children who were rabid fans and dragged me to more than one FABLEHAVEN book launch party when they were young teens, where there were hundreds of young, screaming fans ― it’s a great, imaginative series for middle graders who like magical fantasies with exciting and perilous adventures.

ragons. Demons. Witches. Ogres. Fairies. Unicorns. Nipsies. Brownies. Satyrs. Centaurs. Stick around Fablehaven long enough and you might meet any or all of them. But now Seth and Kendra are off to Wyrmroost to help stave off a dragon uprising in the sanctuary. It's not a perfect solution, but there aren't a lot of options open to the sanctuary keepers like Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson. Can two teenagers, however talented and blessed with magical gifts they are, actually hope to stand up to the might of the Dragon King and his followers?

Fantasy readers who have not yet discovered the Fablehaven series will still enjoy this new novel. The characters are 3-dimensional with faults as well as strengths. The plot is complicated and keeps you on your toes as you read along. Who is on the side of the humans? Who supports the dragons? Who is a neutral third party, or perhaps just waiting for a chance to choose the winning side? Lore and magical relics are discussed and searched for. Alliances are made and friendships tested. Anyone with siblings can appreciate the bickering and heavy sighs of frustration between Seth and Kendra.

It's only fair to warn you that once you read this you will want to go back and read the other books, too. There are plenty of earlier events mentioned that will pique your curiosity, pestering you like an itch that needs to be scratched. And we will all be eager to see what happens next, impatiently waiting for Brandon Mull to complete Dragonwatch #2.

Highly recommended for grades 4+.

Dragonwatch picks up where Fablehaven left off. It's been a few months since the final big battle with the demons, and things are mostly back to normal. If living on a sanctuary full of mystical beings is normal.

Seth is still his usual self - annoying whiny teen boy who thinks he is invincible and doesn't ever think through the consequences of his actions. Kendra is still a unicorn-love struck teen girl, though her head is still mostly on straight and she makes choices based on logic. But when they are chosen as the new co-caretakers for Wyrmroost, life becomes a bit more interesting.

Through all the adventures and magical creatures, this book is the story of taking chances and saving the world, one dragon sanctuary at a time. Hopefully future volumes continue on in the same thread. Previous fans of Fablehaven will not be disappointed, and it looks like there are some new characters who will soon be having their own magical adventures.

After a seven-year wait, the sequel to the Fablehaven series is here! Dragonwatch starts a new chapter in the Fablehaven saga. The dragons are sick of their sanctuaries. They feel like prisons, and they want their freedom. Celebrant, a dragon resident and co-caretaker of the Wyrmroost Sanctuary, is testing his boundaries a little too much for anyone's comfort. The wizard Agad, tells Kendra, Seth, and Grandpa Sorenson about an ancient group, the Dragonwatch, charged with keeping the dragons confined to their sanctuaries. Agad is resurrecting the Dragonwatch, and he also needs new caretakers at Wyrmroost: Seth and Kendra. As long as they work and together, they are the next hope for Wyrmroost, but Celebrant isn't going to take having children as his new co-caretakers that willingly. Seth and Kendra must work with the supernatural residents around them to secure a magical artifact before the dragons can overthrow Wyrmroost.

I picked up my first copy of Fablehaven years ago, and fell in love with the story: the characters, the worldbuilding, the action, and the story of a family living under some pretty wild circumstances. Imagine finding out that your grandparents were caretakers of a preserve for magical creatures? Dragonwatch is every single thing I love about Fablehaven and more. There's new worldbuilding and mythology that builds on everything we know so far; there's a new conflict on the rise that will test our favorite characters and introduce us to new ones, and there's still a strong commitment to the heart of the series: the family at the center of the story. We meet two possibly recurring characters from that family: cousins Knox and Tess, who bring a little of the outside world back to the novel while getting their feet wet in the world of Fablehaven. We meet a host of new magical friends, including Celebrant, the powerful dragon at the heart of the new conflict.

You don't need to be well-read on Fablehaven to dive into Dragonwatch. It's a new series, so Mull touches on the main points that newcomers need to be aware of, while giving readers an entirely new story to fall in love with. Kids will want to read Fablehaven once they start Dragonwatch - they'll need something to read while waiting for the next installment - but they won't be left out if they haven't read the previous books just yet.
