Description

Use electric fencing to protect your livestock, poultry, beehives, and garden. Portable electric fencing is key to successful rotational grazing, while permanent electric fencing effectively protects gardens and orchards and secures large pastures. Through clear instructions accessible to everyone, you’ll learn when to use these methods or a combination of the two, plus how to plan for, build, and maintain your electric fencing. This crucial tool is cost effective and versatile, but veteran farmer and author Ann Larkin Hansen also explains what not to do with an electric fence.

For those of us who struggle to maintain the safety of our barnyard and protect the critters that feed us, Ann Larkin Hansen's The Electric Fencing Handbook is spot-on for addressing what will work and why. Not only does it educate concerning the mysterious shock that comes from standing too close to the electric wire on a soggy day but also the proper combination of wire, insulators and energizer for whatever animals you house. The graphics and illustrations are easily understood and the fillable planning worksheets will ease the newcomers into the world of parameters and cost per month. The inclusion of images of fence installation from actual working barnyards and not off-the-shelf assemblies was refreshing. A little dirt and moss makes it feel like the average person could do it too! The book's value is not restricted to those who dream of fresh milk from their own cow, goat or sheep but also incompasses protecting our family, pets and property from wild animals and other threats that could cause unexpected harm. The Electric Fencing Handbook will aid you in creating a protective barrier where needed and explain how to keep it in good working order.
