At later encounters, the pair learns they have common interests and draw closer. A threat to Anora’s ranch is overheard, and Konrad rides out with a warning, and a crew, to offer protection. Through the tense situation, they share confidences. A really nice holiday read if you enjoy a good authentic historical read then this is for you a super romance that you wont want to put down perfect for a lazy weekend
Silent Signals was a really cute romance. The two main characters are Anora and Konrad. Both are ranchers, Anora of sheep and Konrad of cattle. Anora also raises herding dogs that she is breeding to sell. Konrad lost half of his herd in the blizzard last year and Anora offers her dogs as an option to help with herding his cattle. That offer does not go well, he does not need Anora to tell him what he needs. But when he returns to his ranch and begins to think of his future he feels the need for a wife and Anora's image is what is brought to mind.
Anora lives with her Grandpa and is somewhat of a tomboy who helps run the ranch. Anora attends church one Sunday and instead of dressing as a tomboy dresses in a skirt and shirt. When Konrad sees her, he is struck by her beauty. When he sees how she is mistreated by the man that Anora's grandfather has entrusted to take her to town, he feels a need to protect her. He decides to visit her and once he sees the capability of her dogs, decides to adopt two of them. He does as much as he can to spend time with her.
There is bad blood between the sheep herders and the cattle ranchers in their community. When Konrad overhears two men threaten the sheep herders he takes his men over to help Anora and her grandfather protect their ranch. In doing so, he looses his heart to Anora. After she feels his arms around her and his lips upon hers, she looses her heart as well.
It is a cute romance that is a quick read. It is well written and leaves you with a happy heart.
Wow, where to start??! I love historical novels, and this one was beautifully written! This hits close to home because where I grew up the sheep vs. cattle fight was alive and well and as a general rule the families didn't mingle. I found myself cheering Anora on and admiring her spunk, while at the same time Konrad starts the novel as a huge jerk, and I personally found much amusement in how Anora shifts his world axis and brings him to his knees. This was a phenomenal read, beautifully detailed, and it speaks to the skill of the author that the story is brought to life as you are reading it and it seems as if you are in the thick of it. Loved it!
Can a Cattle rancher whose herd was decimated by the great blizzard of 1888 and a granddaughter of a sheep rancher find common ground? Konrad and Anora work through their differences to find a common path in this tale of the old west. Enjoyed the setting and character's tales. Good book to snuggle up with on a cool night and get away to another time.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
What a thoroughly satisfying story! You get so wrapped up and invested in each and every character, that the ending comes way too soon. The love that surrounds this small town life is so pleasurable that it will do your heart good to read this. Country life may seem simple but it still has its own share of drama and excitement. The experiences of the townsfolk will be your experiences too. A foray into a sweet, developing love. Nothing like it.
Linda Carroll-Bradd is now one of my favorite authors!
