Description
A freak accident at Chloe’s seventeenth birthday party reveals her psychic abilities, and the community responds by condemning her as a witch who must be burned alive. As she attempts to escape across the dystopian, war-ravaged territory of her homeland, she yearns for a chance to find refuge and acceptance.
On the run and haunted by ghosts from her past, Chloe finds herself at the center of a conflict between the warring factions of Cloud Lords, shape-shifters from another dimension, alternately revered as angels and reviled as demons by the subjugated human populace below.
A dispute between her people’s rulers, the virile Drakonin dragon shifters, and their sworn enemies, the night flying Vampirii, radically alters Chloe’s destiny when she brazenly intervenes in their struggle by sheltering a fallen warrior.
Chloe comes face-to-face with Aethan, a prince among the Vampirii, the most fearsome of the Cloud Lords, known for craving human blood. She will share a forbidden connection with Aethan that could ultimately lead to a place where her nascent power might bloom, provided she can survive the perilous events that will test the bounds of her resolve and love.
THE FALLEN VAMPIRE is the prequel novella for the FLUX & FIRMAMENT romance series for young adults. This epic adventure takes place in an entirely new universe—The Realm of the Cloud Lords, created by a catastrophic experiment at the Large Hadron Collidor, which has led to a fusion between our world and another dimension.

Although I was hesitant to read yet another dystopian novel the cover grabbed me, I was pleasantly surprised . the cloud lords , dragon shifters and vampiri were different than anything else I had read of late. Chloe learns of her psychic abilities on her seventeenth birthday . knowing she will be condemned as a aitch she attempts her escape. she helps a fallen warrior and this puts her in the middle of conflict. I read this pretty fast and wanted to see where the story went forward. |

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. When an accident reveals Chloe’s psychic abilities, the community condemns her as a witch and threatens to burn her alive. Attempting to escape into the next territory, she yearns for acceptance. While on the run Chloe finds herself in the middle of a battle between the Cloud Lord (shape-shifters from another dimension) factions. A fight between the rulers of her people, the Drakonin (dragon-shifters) and the Vampirii (vampires). By sheltering a fallen Vampirii warrior, her destiny is radically altered. If she can survive the test of her resolve, she may just reach a place where her latent powers can bloom. This first book in the FLUX & FIRMAMENT series sets the stage by introducing us to a new universe created when a catastrophic experiment at the Large Hadron Collider led to a collision between our world and the dimension of the Cloud Lords. With well written and a plot that seems well thought out, I really enjoyed this one and look forward to seeing what happens next. |

This is a novella prequel where we are introduced to a dystopian America some time in the future. Everything in the past has been legally required to be forgotten. From history, to state names, even technology. Chloe is our main character in this novella, which seems like she will be the main character in the series. She has a thirst for knowledge, especially for that that was before the Rift. The Rift being when the Cloud Lords came to take over the Earth. But who are the Cloud Lords? It appears that there are at least 2 factions: Dragon and Vampire. Both can shift into human forms, but both are certainly otherwordly in their beauty and strength. The Drakonins (dragon faction) rule over the Pacific Governorship, the region that Chloe lives in. During the Reorganization, a new religion was instituted, along with many new rules, that basically brought humans back to a time before industrialization and electricity. The new religion worships the Cloud Lords as angels, or supernatural beings. And every so often, a sacrifice is demanded of the villages. Most of all, anything supernatural is deemed as witchcraft, worthy of being burned at the stake. And Chloe has some latent abilities she doesn't know a lot about, other than she gets sick after she uses them. And she used them at the worst time, all because of a boy she was in love with. Now, normally, I don't much care for books where there is a girl who is just SO IN LOVE with a boy, her best friend, or whatever, and just needs him to realize it. But in this case, we're looking at a different time where girls get engaged at 17 just to avoid being picked as the sacrifice, and love is taking more and more of a backseat in partner selection. The purposeful ignorance that is mandated by law by the Cloud Lords has made the people into a naive populace, willing to burn people for witchcraft just as a symbol of their frustration with their shackles. It has to be vented somewhere, right? So Chloe ends up exposing herself because of her love for her childhood best friend, Wayne, the Sherriff's son. He helps her escape, but she discovers that he doesn't love her, and is already betrothed to someone else. He's just helping her because he couldn't stand to see his best friend burned at the stake. To Chloe's credit, she decides to leave him behind. I like how she decided to pick herself up and move forward. Yup, it's going to be painful. You don't quickly get over loving your best friend, but she seemed determined to do it and be productive while she was at it. Overall, I was pretty happy with this novella prequel. I feel that the way it was structured is better suited to a release AFTER the first book has been released, as there are a lot of questions as to how, when, and why the world is the way it is that are just barely touched on here, but I have no doubt will be fully explained in the first book. However, I feel that it should have been flipped if you're releasing the prequel first: deep explanation now, touch on it quickly in first book. I give this 4 out of 5 stars. The story is very interesting and I found myself wanting to read a LOT more once I hit the end. I'm looking forward to the first book. My rating system is as follows: 1 star - Horrible 2 stars - Bad 3 stars - Decent 4 stars - Good 5 stars - Amazeballs!!! |

I think this author has a great imagination and am looking forward to the next book in this series. I wish the book had been longer because it felt like there were a lot of questions and not a single answer to any of them. |

Weird dystopian fiction in which the world has been overrun by two powerful civilizations that come from the sky - perhaps another quantum reality? Dragon shapeshifters who rule with an iron fist, and their nemesis - vampires who can shapeshift into giant bats. But we see all of this from the viewpoint of a girl running for her life when her psychic abilities were revealed. Her fellow humans don't appreciate 'witches.' Or much of anything else in their rigorously totalitarian society. When she finds a wounded fallen vampire, things get even more interesting... but there, the story ends, only a teaser for a proper novel to come. |

I liked the journey both main characters went on and the evolution of their characters in dealing with their past. I felt it was a bit slow in parts, but overall was a great Paranormal Read and especially good for this time of year. |

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. First I want to mention how much I love this cover! I live in the midwest so anything with a tornado on it intrigues me and then add vampires to it? IM DONE. The Fallen Vampire is a prequel novella which I prefer to read those after I have read at least one or two full-length novels in the series but I was not disappointed! My favorite genres are supernatural and fantasy and this had both of those. There was dragons, witches, vampires, and who knows what else is in the full-length series. I HAVE to read the rest of this series and the only problem I had was that I wish it was longer! |
