Just for Fun: Drawing
More than 100 fun and simple step-by-step projects for learning the art of basic drawing
by Lise Herzog
This is an incredible drawing book for beginners like me. I just ordered this book! It has so many step-by-step projects for so many wild animals, domestic animals, body parts, and flowers/trees. With just starting with simple shapes, from there instructions lead to a complete drawing. This is a beginner's book. This is a great starter book to get someone going and show them they can do it and really make art! LOVE it! Thanks NetGalley,Quarto and Walter Foster Publishing for letting me read this great book!

3'5 stars

Here we have a very nice book that helps you to practice with different shapes and styles. It presents a small guide at the beginning with different materials we can use for drawing (pens, pencils, indian ink, etc), and then we go over to drawing.
We have a section which includes different animals, such as cats, felines, dogs, horses... Then we have a section about humans and clothing, facial expressions; and then we move to nature and forces of nature such as forests, water, etc. And we even have a bit on perspectives and POW.
It's a very complete book that covers a lot of ground in an easy direct way, ideal for beginners or people who want to practice a bit (or a lot haha).

This is an excellent little book. The step by step instructions are detailed enough to get beginners drawing something they can be proud of right away. But the author also includes lessons on transferrable techniques and basic drawing skills so you get the best of both worlds. There are lots of illustrations, and lots of great things to draw. This is an excellent book for any beginner, Thank you

"Just for Fun: Drawing" is an art book to help beginners learn how to draw. It combined text describing what to do and why you do it with simple, step-by-step drawings. This allows the person to learn how to draw cats in general, for example, not just the pose shown in the book.

I'd recommend this as a good beginner artist book for tweens and teens (or older). It's done in a style that should keep a younger person interested, but it also taught some basics found in adult drawing books. So we learn how to draw basic shapes--in perspective--and how to add simple texture and shading.

The book began by describing what drawing tools to use, and you can start out with as little as a common pencil and a sheet of computer paper. Other tools were described, but you don't have to start fancy. We then get the step-by-step "add a circle here and here, combine the shapes, add some texture" instructions. These usually involved four steps that were easy to understand and weren't complex to draw.

We're taught to draw animals like cats, big cats, dogs, wolves, rabbits, horses, cow, and birds. There were brief descriptions on how to draw people standing and in motion, the parts of the body, and clothing. And we learn to draw nature in part (like a tree, flower, or water) or as a whole landscape drawing. The finished drawings should look recognizable without being complex to draw.

Right up front I will say that my devices wouldn't accept the epub verson I was sent, but the little I did see was awesome! I really hope that I can connect with the author to figure out where to get a paper copy of Just For Fun Drawing.

Just for Fun: Drawing by Lise Herzog is a compilation of 100 different projects to tackle to learn the art of drawing well by really looking at the world and life around you and picking out their shapes. The illustrations show the step by step development of a drawing from the basic shapes and lines to full on texture and shading. This book is great for young people who desire to learn more about art and improve their drawing skills, or even adults who want to draw but need a few pointers to get started. The drawing drills cover a multiplicity of areas: textures, lines, value, perspective, and much more. This does not talk down to the reader, as the wording is sparse and simple with easy to follow directions, and illustrations that teach and inspire the young or old artist to look as they draw.. It shows figures without nudes, still life and landscape. This is a comprehensive book of drawing. Great for tweens, teens, home educators, art teachers, public libraries, and the person seeking to hone their skills. I have a very old book that is similar that was my mother's and it inspired me to pursue art. This looks to do the same.

What makes this book such a strong introduction to art is its organization: it's clear that it's trying to show the reader how to see how art is made, which of course is the most effective way to teach someone how to make it themselves.
By breaking down techniques and practices into small illustrations and examples and setting them against finished works, this book shows the reader how to incorporate these small skills into a bigger context. It's a really effective way to teach art.
I also really liked the introduction with the art materials: these visual tools are really useful to someone trying to figure out what they want to try and use, and how they should try and use it.
I'd happily recommend this to anyone who wants to work on drawing on their own time, for their own pleasure. It's a great resource.

This book has lots of information about breaking things down into the basic shapes of whatever it is you are wanting to draw. I liked the directions for how to work with horizontal planes and vanishing points.
My son will love reading through this and looking at the illustrations that are clearly showing the steps to take. I expect to have him bringing me all kinds of drawings in the next few days, and I can't wait.

Just for Fun Drawing by Lise Herzog is part of the Just for Fun series, and is a great how-to book for aspiring artists or any beginner wanting to learn how to draw. Most of the book focuses on animals, but there are also sections on how to draw nature and people. At the beginning of the book, Herzog discusses the different materials and tools to use for drawing -which I found very helpful. The instructions were easy to follow and short, which is perfect for young kids and beginners. Overall, a great resource for kids and adults who are either just learning to draw or would like to improve their skill. Recommended for ages 5 and up!

This is a great drawing book. It starts with the basics of supplies needed and gives you step by step instructions that lead you to your own masterpiece. It is so freeing to have some direction and guidance and then make it your own by adding things here and there. I think nature is my favorite but with the nature I can add some wildlife that she also teaches and maybe a person or building off in the distance. The skies the limit and it’s all up to you!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love how this book is really set on helping beginners learn to draw. As someone who's struggled with drawing, I really appreciated how each piece was broken down into basic shapes and slowly morphed into objects such as animals, nature sceneries and people. I took my time with the Drawing Nature section because I really liked how I was able to understand how to draw flowers and trees.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to explore their creative side with drawing and sketching. It's very easy to follow and fun to do.

Great book to and illustrations. Easy to follow instructions which did not cause frustrating feelings. The author wants you to have fun drawing not to be critical of what you drew. Enjoyable book. Great for anyone who wants to learn to draw and just relax and enjoy yourself.

Considering the high reader review's of Lise Herzog's Just for Fun: Drawing, I chose to take a look at the book as one of a small library of beginner art books for my 5th grade granddaughter's Christmas present. I was very impressed with the simple and easy to follow step-by-step instructions so much that I practiced drawing before wrapping it up. You will find it a great stepping stone in learning to create artistic drawings. Full Disclosure: I was allowed to read a copy of this book for free as a member of NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not influenced to give a positive review.
