"Anywhere, Anytime Art: Watercolor" is a art book that will help you create a portable watercolor kit or get set up to paint during short breaks. The author described what tools and materials are best suited for portable watercolor painting. She briefly described how to sketch a scene and then paint it, and how to do this from a photo. She very briefly described color theory and different watercolor techniques. She then provided 12 step-by-step painting projects that are fairly simple to draw and paint. The cover painting is one of those projects.

The author's basic technique is to sketch out a scene then paint in the colors with watercolor (without getting too detailed). While the author did give some tips that would be helpful for beginners, it's aimed at people already familiar with the basics of watercolor. For example, there are no pictures of what a "puddle of paint" looks like or how to do a flat wash. She assumes that you know what that means or can guess based on her text descriptions.

In the step-by-step projects, she tells the reader what colors to use for different objects and what technique to use to apply it. The changes between the steps were small enough that I could see what was being done and didn't feel confused about what she was describing. Overall, I'd recommend this book to those who like her style and want to go more portable.

They were detailed enough to copy completely while building up your confidence and skills. I loved layout of the book and the artist's story. Overall a brilliant and inspirational book full of tips and hints for building up your equipment, making your own tools, and setting up to paint on the go. Overall a brilliant book, thank you

Almost all Walter Foster books are good basic art books. The Anywhere, Anytime Art: Watercolor: An Artist's Guide to Painting on the Go! by Barbara Roth keeps up the tradition of offering a well-written book detailing how to create watercolor paintings. Overall, her book was very good. I wish there was a bit more emphasis using basic watercolor techniques such as controlling paint flow.

I liked her tools and materials suggestions. I also liked her information on learning how to draw. Best of all I liked her suggestions on how to set-up a basic color palette with the paint colors she normally uses. Her discussion of the color wheel and color theory is invaluable for any artist.

Overall, this is an excellent basic watercolor painting book.

Recommend.

Anywhere, Anytime Art: Watercolor An artist's guide to painting on the go! by Barbara Roth is a very wonderful guide to learning watercolor painting. The first part of the book gives you the basics of tools, techniques, tips, material guide, etc. Then the book gets into the really fun stuff. There are outlined pictures of places from around the world. Each picture starts just as the outline. Then step by step, the instructions tell the reader, and shows the reader on the next photo, how to color or paint the picture. Instructions all the way, with pictures, until each scene is finished. There is several of these scenes from around the world. Colorful and bright pictures that would be very pretty indeed hanging on the wall or sitting on a desk. A delightful book that goes on to talk about outdoors painting or drawing. A very informative and enchanting book that would make any new artist feel good about themselves. I received this book from NetGalley and the books publishers and I am glad I did, this book is a pure delight!

My daughter (16) is so into watercolors right now. This book looks perfect for her! A guide to taking her art out of the house and on the go. So much information packed into this little book. Can't wait to order her her own physical copy.

Anywhere, Anytime Art: Watercolor is a comprehensive book that discusses color, light, sketching, preparing to paint, theory, paints, equipment, inspiration, "How to's" and more. Step by step instructions are given as to how to build a watercolor painting from reference material you have gathered combined with your imagination. The pages are teeming with colorful watercolors, sketches, etc. There is much whimsy, and dimension to the illustrations that let you realize painting is not limited to a simple square, but can erupt on a page to invite the looker into the picture. This book is the encouragement a budding artist needs to pack up their paints, paper, and palette and to begin to create their own watercolors..This will make a lovely gift for young and old prospective water-colorists, and is perfect for public libraries, home school, school libraries.

Definitely the best watercolor guide book I've ever read, and as someone who's been working with watercolors and aquarels for over 10 years, I've read a lot. The first half is invaluable to anyone who isn't already a pro, and even then come of the tips could come in handy.

The book touches more upon the technical aspects surrounding the craft itself, more than the act of painting, and frankly, that's much more important. The book guides you, instead of telling you what to do, which is a very important distinction and helps people grow their art instead of blindly following orders. The author touches upon materials (with even suggesting cheaper alternatives!), terminology (all with examples!), ways to organise your art corner and things not to do. Some of the things might seem obvious, but I can attest that they can take years to figure out on your own.

Some of the tips as to the attitude to art are very important and it's clear the author knows what she's talking about. The language is simple, without feeling the need to throw complex and incomprehensible art terms that so many art books tend to do. Visual explanations and examples are present.

The second half of the book is step-by-step of some paintings, helping ppl to see steps taken, without, again, telling readers what to do, but to see the artist work. I only wish there was a bigger diversity in styles or subjects, but as a beginner's guide, it's very good.

All in all, a very good book for anyone who wants to pick up watercolors.

I've tried a few of the step-by-step projects, and my end product looked better than my watercolors ever have in the past. I think it's having the pencil or ink along with the watercolor. I'm glad I tried out this book.

I've always wanted to try landscape and scenery painting but never really knew where to start. I figured the best way I can learn was to read a book about it. I found this book on Netgalley and figured this could be helpful. And helpful it was!

Given the title, this book will teach you how to sketch and paint on the go. Definitely a must have for those who love to paint during traveling. It gives artists tips on supplies and packing. I've only gone through the theoretical/narrative aspects of the book and one artwork process sample. But I've already learned so much already. From sketching and perspectives, to watercolor techniques, this book had been very helpful in understanding the process. Here's the catch though, since it's an on-the-go activity, you gotta keep in mind that you only have about 10-15minutes to finish your sketch. The idea here is to not overthink. But of course you can go beyond the time if your truly into it. (There are no rules after all. ) I haven't tried sketching the actual artworks from the book yet but I tried using my own reference and the principles I've learned still applied. So you can go beyond the books examples and learn to explore on your own.

This book is a definite must read for beginners and intermediate artists. It's an inspiring and motivating read that'll help you through a thought to be intimidating process. Will definitely get a print copy of this book.

I'm fairly new to art and am always in the lookout for new books to help me hone my skills. Roth' book was very inviting and I was pleased to work my way through.
First, the good points.
There is loads of advice on the materials and equipment one needs to get out and work outside.
Ms. Roth explains clearly how she approaches her art. She takes us through several paintings from initial sketch to how she mixed her colours and where to apply them. But oh my, those colours...
The garish choice of unnatural looking colours made me wince. This is probably down to personal taste, but the Eiffel Tower isn't pink, and I found Ms Ruth's style more illustrative rather than painterly.
However, this is a fun book with much good advice in it and well worth a look.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
