101 Video Games to Play Before You Grow Up is perfect for gamers of all ages. It is the perfect introduction to loads of video games that parents or teachers may have played while growing up, and will be a great platform for families to meet and have fun. This book opens with a comprehensive table of contents for quick and easy reference. There are fill in boxes to note if you played it, "my rating", "My favorite moment" and "Notes. Each game reviewed denotes system specs, platforms, rating, year it came out, and which company made the game, along with pertinent details about each game, and a "Did you know?" fact, suggestions as to what to play next, and "You'll like these games if...". Printed in bright colors with cartoony type characters (not specific reproductions of the game art, but close enough to depict the characters) this should be eye catching and a quick reading handy reference guide to throw in with your game consolesl Perfect for sharing with your kids, revisiting memory lane, or for avid gaming fans. For school libraries, public libraries (expect a lot of use), gifts, and wherever video games are sold. Fun! This review is for a NetGalley preview.

I'm so tempted to make this another elective this school year. Could this be a spine for the history of video games? I'm playing with the idea anyway. We are a video game family, my husband has been programming since his Commodore 64 games, and we own nearly every console in existence. Now, even if you don't have that kind of crazy obsession collection, you can utilize this book.

This book opens with a comprehensive table of contents for quick and easy reference. There are fill in boxes to note if you played it, "my rating," "My favorite moment" and "Notes. For each game, Ben lists the system specs, platforms, rating, the year it came out. He tells which company made the game, along with pertinent details about each game, and a "Did you know?" fact, suggestions as to what to play next, and "You'll like these games if...". The Table of Contents lists Platformer Games, Action & Adventure, Sports & Fighting, Role Playing & Strategy, Puzzle & Arcade, and Party & Rhythm.

If you are thinking about using this with your kids, I'd love to touch base with you as the school year goes on. I believe that we're going to try and get to one game a week as time permits.

I think this is a great idea for a fun book, however I would not be recommending this to a young person as I don't think it's ideal to encourage children to make their way through 101 computer games. We should be encouraging less screen time instead of more! I think however this might make a great gift for someone a little older, as I found this to be a great trip down memory lane!

I enjoyed the suggestions for similar games, and the little comment box at the bottom of each page for you to tick when you've played the games and give each a star rating. There's helpful snippets of information on each page, such as which consoles to find the games, and 'you'll like this game if...'. There were ratings for each of the games, but as the ratings were letters, these did not make any sense to me; it would have been helpful if there was an index at the beginning of the book to explain the rating system.

The text is a little on the small and cramped side, but other than this I think this a great all-round book, more suited for adults than children.

I really like this book. It has great divisions such as action adventure, sports, and party games. Each game in the list includes platform, rating, other suggested games, and interesting trivia. Plus it never says this is the number one game. Instead the games are divided by type. I only wish they would have separated the sections in parts or chapters. They do a double page spread whenever they change genres, but I would like to see a better division. But as an informative and entertaining read it is perfect.

I found thid book to be very enjoable. Mostly all pf the videogames it talkes about are the ones i've played during my childhood, and it was nice to get to know some fun facts about each of them. It's a very simple book to read, and i like the way it's presented.

A huge variety of games that really are must-play games across many different genres: platforms, action, adventure, sports, fighting, role playing, strategy, puzzle, arcade, party and rhythm. There are areas for readers to mark that they have played the game and to write a mini review. Well chosen game titles and plenty of information about these titles.

This is a great book for kids who love video games.

There are so many games listed! Each game listing is very detailed. It made me want to play all of the games I haven’t played before.

What I like is that there is a space at the bottom of the page for kids to fill in their rating of the game and their thoughts on it. This gets kids to think critically about the games their playing. I used to learn so much from video games when I was a kid. They can be a great teaching tool.

There are fun facts about the creation of the game for each listing which are interesting to read.

I loved reminiscing about these games while reading this book. So many of these games filled my childhood, and are still relevant today, such as Mario and Sonic. I think you would even enjoy these games if you are already grown up!

Ahhhh...Nostalgia. Plus pretty colours. And I'm going to say that I'm not grown up yet, because I requested 101 Video Games to Play Before You Grow Up from Netgalley for me rather than Tesfa, although when Tesfa looked over my shoulder last night and saw me reading it, she demanded that she get to read it too to make sure Zelda was in there (the book intrigued its actual target audience rather than me -- success!) Plus Katamari was in there (first thing I checked). No Nethack though. And as shiny and pretty and colourful as this book is, it can't change the fact that it's basically a list of one hundred and one games of male protagonists (obviously there are a few females tossed in, like Samus, but that's hardly enough). It's not Bertoli's fault that video games skew male, but it does put a damper on my reading off all the little video game facts/synopses, especially with Tesfa super-eager to see what video games she might want to play next. So then I ended up sad, instead of cheerfully inspired. Boo patriarchy.

Great book about 101 video games you must play.........

101 Video Games to Play Before You Grow Up is part book, part journal. There is a checklist where you can keep track of what games you have played already and what you haven't, the rating of the game and a place for you to keep track of your favorite moment and notes after playing it. I went through all the categories and kept track of how many I had played - although I suppose it could be argued I'm already "grown up" and my time has run out...

1-23 Platformer (16)
24-40 Action and Adventure (4)
41-58 Sports & Fighting (3)
59-78 Role Playing & Strategy (4)
79-91 Puzzle & Arcade (5)
92-101 Party & Rhythm (2)

Great book for that video game lover in your life who is on a quest to play all the best games!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
