Description

Governments legislate against trade in wildlife yet the traffic in rare species is worth six billion dollars a year. Regulations forbid animal suffering in the food industry and cruelty in bloodsports is criminalised, but little is done to enforce the good intentions.

The only way to stop it is to go undercover, to recruit informants and to infiltrate the gangs: to go behind enemy lines.

With his SAS training and his talent for being accepted by his enemies, Terry Spamer gets close to the guilty and the corrupt, exposes them and places the evidence before the authorities – and us.

The first freelance undercover agent investigating organised animal crime, Terry tracks those trapping wild primates for laboratory use and wild birds for pets. He infiltrates dog-fighting rings and proves the appalling treatment of reindeer on their way to the low-fat meat counter. Animals are killed on camera for sexual gratification, and no animal is too rare for the bespoke taxidermist.

Gripping and moving, this page-turning book is an eye-opener to the cruelty that lives on in a ‘civilised’ world.

Terry Spamer reveals eye opening and shocking experiences through his work fighting animal cruelty travelling the globe from Ghana, the UK over to Scandinavia throughout this book which leaves the reader in shock at the actions of the people exposed within his stories.

As I picked up this book I was captivated from start to finish hanging on Terry's every word.

He looks at Monkey smugglers, the illegal ivory trade, reindeer abuse, dog fighting rings and so much more keeping his writing interesting and educational along side pushing his message of fighting animal cruelty.
One note I would advise on is that within the book Terry gives a warning at the start of a chapter saying "if you are squeamish just skip this chapter", I then went forward thinking there will be nothing that bad but I was wrong. Now if you are squeamish then take his warning and skip that chapter but overall I think his inclusion of a very hard to read chapter did push his message of animal welfare within the book.

After finishing this book I would highly recommend it and may have to read it again.
Terry gave many eye opening experiences which were very interesting and captivating all at the same time of learning about animal welfare.

As a life long animal activist and vegan I know many of the stories behind the hideous abuse and torture of animals on the black market but this author has gone undercover to revel even further abuse. Most people are unaware of what goes on to torture and illegally trade in animals .
If you are unaware, if you are against animal cruelty, if you are a activist for those with no voice you need to read this book. This is a real account of the author behind the scenes and the animal holocaust that is going on behind close doors and outside of the media. I would like to thank the author for his efforts and for bringing these shocking abuses into the forefront of the world . The more exposure we give to abuse the less it will occur. Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review. Very well done. I appreciate that the author has warnings on chapters to not read if your squeamish . Excellent book for all activist and animal lovers.
