Description

Life is tough when you are a little stray kitten. Bubbles, a beautiful black and white cat, shares the antics, challenges and fun in her life that make her part of the eternal cat story. After being abandoned as a kitten, this little stray persists until she finds her forever home.

This brave little warrior diligently keeps her chosen helper happy, protects her boundaries, and faces her fears. Ensuring that there are lots of brushes and naps along the way, she never gives up. Her optimistic approach to life and the love in her heart touches all who meet her.

'Sometimes when I hear her walking to the back of my house, I get on the bed and wait for her on my little books because you can’t miss an opportunity. I slow-blink her and talk nicely to her, so—Yes!—I win again. She really likes the way I don’t eat any treats until she brushes me, and I have worked out that this gets me extra brushes. She mentions the word ‘obsessed’ to me, but I don’t know what she is talking about.'

'It is raining today so I am playing with my helper in the house. I play hide and seek and I love sliding across the floor to get at the ping pong ball under the door mat. Hang on a minute, who is this good looking creature I see in the door? It is moving just like me. Wow, it is me! I have black and white fur, and look, my eyes are green. My coat is preened to perfection—nice. I must play near this door more often and check that all is in order. I’ll just strut over here and coolly line up that ping pong ball again and pretend to play so I can check my good-looking self out again. I am sure now that everyone is watching me. Yep—I think now I will just take a nap as sleep is good for a girl’s complexion.'

This is the story of Bubbles from her birth onwards. She lives happily with her kind mother and litter mates until it is time for her to find a new home and become independent of her cat family. The story is told entirely from Bubbles point of view and forms a diary of her time spent both alone and with her human Helper. She loves to hunt and can wrap her Helper around her paws : her life is idyllic, she is secure, well fed and happy.

I enjoyed reading this short story. It was pleasant and, as a cat-lover, I could easily identify with her little kitty traits and behaviours. The story was well told but it was one dimensional and had a very abrupt ending. I did not like the way that the author ended her stories about Bubbles with sentences that told the reader that the cat was going now, she was tired and wanted to take a nap. It irritated me. Nevertheless there were some amusing antics and the time taken to read the story was only very short.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the author, who published her own novel, for my copy, sent to me in return for an honest review, which I have written here.

There are a number of stories about animals as told from the perspective of animals. This is always tricky, of course, as the human authors project and therefore humanize the animals. Nevertheless, I always liked the stories I've read from that perspective so when I saw this little tale, I wanted to try it.

The short book tells the story of the cat eventually known as Bubbles - from birth to abandonment to settling into her forever home and all the fun of explorations and playing in between. Judging by the ending of this book, the story was written in memoriam of a cat the author had a very special relationship with.

It is quite funny to read at times as some traits are clearly feline. However, this cat was also a little different from the ones I have known over the years (she liked to play fetch!). Most of all, I loved to read about what Bubbles' owner did to entertain her - that playgound looks and sounds awesome and mixing up the toys to never let it get boring is a great idea.
Oh and there were a few photographs of Bubbles, the playground and her home which was a nice little addition.

Nevertheless, as much as I wanted to love this story, there was just something about the writing style. It was like a pink crocheted doily on a little table - too fluffy (at least sometimes when it described how Bubbles supposedly felt and what she thought).

Bubbles, a stray cat who was rescued by what she calls her "helper," tells her story, in her own words. Told in the first person, by Bubbles herself, this story was unique in that the reader is taken inside the mind of a cat. She speaks about "slow blinking" at her helper, what I like to call "love eyes," as well as playing hide and seek and, of course, getting in a catnap or two. This book is sure to please cat lovers!

Thank you Netgalley for a free copy of this cute book in exchange for an honest review.

Bubbles´ tale is told from the perspective of a cat - its feelings and how it relates to people and to the world around him.
The book is cute and adorable but I am more into Biology books when reading about animals, because tales do not always tell exactly what is going on inside animal´s minds, only Science does.
So, although it deserves to be valued I think this book is better suited for CHILDREN.

This is cute, the story of a kitty from the perspective of the cat. It is pretty much anthropomorphized, not sure cats think that way and not sure how this cat found our common frames of reference-how does that baby know that sleeping is taking a nap?- however, fun to imagine. Or scary.
It is hard to go wrong with a feel good, some bad stuff, but cheery language about cats.
Fun, quick, why not?
If one person looks at a cat more lovingly after this book, then kudos and thanks.

As a chronic cat lover, and a slave to 4 felines. I felt I just had to read this book This book tells the story of a kitty called Bubbles/Bubba and her helper from the cat's view.
I felt the book was aimed at a younger reader, maybe mid junior school level, as I found the writing style easy to follow, and I really loved the photos of Bubba.
As a seasoned cat owner and lover I could relate to some of the behaviour and antics Bubba displayed and laughed at the cats rationale/perspective for her behaviour towards her helper and situations, at certain points.
The only minor criticism of this short book, is the amount of time Bubba naps, I know cats can sleep up to 16 hours a day - but was it really necessary for Bubba to nap or think about napping quite so often throughout the book.
The ending of the book left me in floods of tears, maybe because I have recently experienced the same situation with one of my kitty's, and it brought back memories of this.
On the whole an enjoyable easy, short read

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the chance to read this book.

Normally a cat on the cover of a book would be enough to win me over, but it wasn't the case with this one. I was ready for a short, cute tale of a cat finding her home, as described in the title. However, the writing style and the repetition completely threw me. If I had to read the word 'nap' one more time....anyway. Plus I just felt like there wasn't really much of a story being told? All animals are cute and all, but this was a story about a kitten being left behind, the first person they find takes them in, and they get brushed, have naps (so many) and play in a kitty condo. That's...it?

Hn. This review makes me out to be unfeeling and not the cat lover I know I am. I mean, I adore my own two cats, but I'd never write a story about them because they are kind of like Bubbles in that napping is pretty much it. Which is fine, when you don't have to read about it.

So I didn't really enjoy this book, but there are some cute photos in it and yes, it's free to download from Netgalley atm, so there is that. I probably read far more animal stories than is good for me, and this might get judged less harshly from others. Not for me, but that doesn't mean it's not for you! Two stars.

This was an odd book choice for me - and this blog - but it was short, and about cats! I read it while spending the better part of a week caring for the neighbour’s gravely ill cat (the neighbour was interstate), and it seemed like a good choice to read while I was napping on the couch and not having a chance to concentrate on a longer book.
A memoir, but from the author’s(?) cat’s point of view, this is definitely one for younger readers - or to be read with younger readers. It’s a fast read, humanises the cat, and… Well, it is what it is.
I’d say it is the sort of book families who are considering getting a cat might choose.
Clearly written with love, this simply-written personal little story is also one for cat lovers who can identify with the different stages of life.

This is a book about a cute cat who takes lots of naps!! I don’t usually read this type of animal book but I thought I would give it a go but I think the book would be better aimed at children.

it is a cute story told from the cat's perspective. From birth to death and in-between. The antics of a typical feline obviously loved by her human. Sweetly written and an easy read with cute pictures as well.
I received this from NetGalley and did enjoy it. Thanks

Anyone who is owned by a cat or cats will love this delightful story. I am owned by 9 cats and enjoyed this very much. This is told entirely from the cat Bubble's point of view. It starts with Bubble's being a very tiny kitten with her mother and siblings. Her mother taught her all she needs to know. After being homeless for a little while she finds her forever home and teaches her "helper" as she refers to her owner. Bubbles is a brave warrior as she chases the animals outside when the lawn is mowed. She gives her owner the privilege of brushing her and then giving her treats. Playing in boxes and bags is the perfect way to pass the day. All this playing then ends with a restorative nap. Such a delightful story I really enjoyed it!

Bubbles' Tale is the story of a stray kitten who is rescued, and it is told in her voice. The story is for children, but anyone who has a cat will enjoy this quick and endearing story. Bubbles sure likes her naps! 😉

Thank you to Colleen Sheehan and Netgalley for the opportunity to read Bubbles' Tale.

Told entirely from precious Bubbles' point of view, readers tag along as Bubbles goes from a newborn kitten in the care and comfort of her cat mom and siblings to a brief time of abandonment and finally as she finds her forever home with her "helper" (as she refers to her human). She chronicles the busyness of her daily life with a nice nap required following each activity. The final page tore my heart out but that's to be expected at the end of any animal story. Any cat lover will enjoy following along on this darling feline's adventures accompanied by lots of pictures of the real Bubbles!

Bubbles Tale - One Cat's Story Of A Forever Home by Colleen Sheehan is a most delightful story of a cat's life told from the point of view of the cat. As a crazy cat lady and owner to five adorable cats, I 'recognised' the daily antics punctuated by the 'need' to "take a nap."
Seeing life through the eyes of Bubbles... I laughed out loud at her objection to being called Grumble Bum; I empathised with her playing; her need to lie in warm spots; her game to have as many windows open in winter as possible and her bond with her helper. I also shed a tear in the final chapter.
Bubbles Tale is a 'must have' for any cat owner. You will surely recognise your cat's traits within the tale.
The whole book has wonderful photos of Bubbles too - a very beautiful cat.
A totally delightful and entertaining read.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Bubble is a tale that tells about a cat's life from babyhood to adulthood plus. While I read it, I could see Bubbles having her activities and adventures. I loved that Bubbles had a forever home. There are photographs throughout the story. If you are a cat owner, you will find it easy to relate to this story. If you are thinking of getting a cat, you will find some good information on how to be a good cat owner. I do think any animal lover would enjoy this story. It is well written by the author.

I loved Bubbles’ Tale.
This is a story about Bubbles the cat who lives with her human helper. It’s a diary of her life. As a human who is owned by three cats it made me chuckle as I related to several of her escapades.

I was reading this book with my cat in mind and was at moved, often charmed and was able to identify in the "Helper" role.
I loved this tender story told by a cat. A book for cat lovers.

A very short, cute story.

I enjoyed this book because it was about a cat - duh!

What else is there to say?
Hmm.
Sheehan did a good job writing from Bubbles' perspective. Not an easy task, but she did it well.
The story tended to drag a little bit in certain parts, but that was a relatively minor issue.

My only gripe was the ending. (view spoiler)
I'm very happy Bubbles had such a wonderful life once Sheehan took her in.

A great, short read for anyone who adores cats.

This is a very sweet book that will appeal to all animal lovers. Bubbles is a cat and the book is told entirely from his perspective. From birth, to abandonment, to a new home the reader follows along from his unique perspective in life. I found myself laughing and crying in parts. I did not understand the abrupt ending but surmise that it may be how the author wanted to end the life of this remarkable cat in a gentle way to the reader. All cat lovers should read this book. It gives the reader a unique perspective of our cats lives! its a touching , heartfelt book and very endearing to all of us that love cats.
Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review.
