How to be a Fashion designer by Lesley Ware offers the right ingredients for explaining a glamorous career to any teen - and practically anyone - considering a professional path in this field. Indeed, being a fashion designer and stylist - meaning someone knowledgeable enough to help you put your clothes and accessories together in an inspired way - means a lot of glamour, but it means even more hard work and permanent learning.
Especially for the limited attention-span of teenagers, this book is beautifully illustrated with well placed advices in the page. At the first sight, especially if you are far beyond that difficult age, it might look a very easy read, but in fact, the information is high-quality and rich enough to help you understand the challenges of being a fashion designer while offering a variety of directions for understanding this profession. By being very visual, it doesn't diminish the quality of content.
You might learn a lot from this book about designing patterns, how the collections are created, how and where to find the right inspiration, create stylish sunglasses or how to take great photos. A guidance about the needed tools and the vocabulary used creates even more familiarity with the domain.
How to Be a Fashion Designer makes it into a good basis for anyone - age doesn't matter - considering a career in this interesting domain. Also, if you are a fashion blogger you might be interested to have a look for learning some tips about styling and fabrics and what does it mean to be one of those people so often written about.

this book is a wonderful book for the crafty girl. I like the illustrations and many suggestions on things to try. This book shows many different style alternatives and may help young people to see their clothes as something they can have control over. There were lots of fun insights into style and projects to do. This book helps someone get their feet wet designing their own clothes. It has a lot of small tutorials on how someone might express their style and is written in a fun and inviting way.

An informative book on how young ones can explore their own fashion sense and unleash that creative side within them. While the technicalities and descriptions were very informative and I really like how colorful this book is, I was kind of hoping there would be a more expounded topic about the sketching side of being a fashion designer. The content on sketching with this book was rather vague. I also hoped it provided a more step-by-step process with the projects provided aside from the paragraphed instructions. I think it wouldn't lose the visual appeal it already has but would also offer an easier feel for its reader.

How To Be A Fashion Designer is a fun, vibrant book filled with great tips on how to become a fashion designer. Per DK standards, the photographs and illustrations are wonderful.

Short sections explain what fashion is and how to style, as well as information on color, textures and silhouettes.

The how to sections include ice dyeing, making a print, bedazzling, making over your clothes and taking good photographs.

I loved the advice on how to find inspiration, and creating and using mood boards. And I loved the glossary of standard fashion terms. And, as a bonus, there are 16 pages of drawing/designing activities with advice at the end of the book.
