Description

Brice Taylor might not be on Aleni Callan's Christmas list, but she finds him under her tree anyway. Nurse Aleni Callan's anger toward God is fueled when Brice Taylor enters her life. Not only does Brice have no regard for his own life—as evidenced by the concussion and hypothermia he suffers after participating in the Polar Bear Plunge—he escaped the war in Afghanistan and lived to tell his story in a bestselling book, while her precious husband was killed. But little does Aleni know that God's will can be orchestrated in all kinds of ways--sometimes through a meddling but loveable mother-in-law who conspires with Brice and Aleni's son, Tyler, to force her from a lonely, bitter life.

I would give this 3.5 stars. Overall a quick and easy read for Christmas. On the one hand, you have Aleni, a widowed nurse raising her young soon, and then Brice shows up as her patient. It has been two years since her husband died in Afghanistan, and Brice is a well known writer, who wrote a book about his experiences serving as a soldier. When she breaks her leg he invites her and her son and mother-in-law to his place for the holidays, and she accepts. The love growing was not shown in depth, and lost a bit in my rating. A lot is implied, not shown, which would have made a stronger book. I enjoyed it, and it kept my interest to the end, and therefore I do recommend it, but it could have been stronger with more details about each character and about their relationship to God. The Christianity is mentioned, but details are not stressed here either. There are more pluses than minuses for me about this book, but again, it could have been better.

Brice Taylor and Aleni Callan's story hooked me from the first page this is a new Author to me a well-written story. This is a story of two damaged people how they meet what happens because of a bad day and how they come together as a family with a mother-in-law that is like a mother, a son, and what they go through over Christmas. I would recommend this book. I read a copy Through KU and I am leaving an voluntary review.
