Sewing Knits from Fit to Finish

I have met Linda Lee and she is a WONDERFUL person who knows her stuff. This book is no different than talking to her. It is a comprehensive reference guide to how to pick, prepare, and sew with knits. (No patterns are involved.) If you know nothing about knits, and want to start sewing with them, this is the book you want.

I've been sewing for years and didn't give much thought to many of the things addressed in this book, like how to make the fabric drape the way you want it to, or measuring the amount of stretch for the beast use of the fabric.
It was enlightening and a good resource for the home sewer.

A really comprehensive book about sewing with knitted fabrics. As a newbie sewer I avoid this sort of fabric like the plague. After reading this book about the different types and how to measure, adjust and cut I might now give it a try. A really useful and helpful text.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is very comprehensive about sewing knitwear, and it is a great reference for any at home seamstress. Knit fabrics are intimidating to work with due to how stretchy they are. With Linda's book as a guide, knits are far less intimidating and I'm inspired to pick out a pattern today. Not only are there descriptions of different knit fabrics and how they differ, there are tips on measurements, patterns, and even on how to modify store bought patterns for a custom fit. The photos and descriptions in this book with step by step instructions make this great for a beginner or someone who is just getting into knit fabrics. This book is a great resource!

Sewing Knits from Fit to Finish: Proven Methods for Conventional Machine and Serger by Linda Lee is a great guide for anyone learning to sew. The book has high-quality paper with lots of colorful photographs and clear illustrations.

This book is not for beginners. the descriptions and directions are very thorough, they are still complex and intense. The author describes the different kinds of knit fabrics as well as outlines the best way to create buttonholes, hems, seams, etc to avoid puckering or stretching.

I love this book because there are many interesting details. Some elements provided I didn't know I needed to know for these sort of projects. This is helpful because it assists in my properly creating without worry of missing something. It inspired me too!

When I first stared sewing knits, there where very few choices, jersey, rib knit for finishes and a heavy cotton/jersey knit for windcheaters. There were special patterns and sewing machine stretch needles and feet, and we muddles along.
Now there is such a huge selection of stretch fabric, overlockers and now with this book a lot more know-how on adapting normal patterns and getting a professional finish to our clothing.
This book is really wonderful for anyone wanting to sew with stretch fabric, it takes the guesswork and mystery out of the process. The process has never been hard, in fact it is very easy sewing, its just that you need to understand the fabric and how it reacts in sewing. this book cover all of that and enable a really well fitted and professional looking garment at very little cost and time.

This is a very comprehensive look at sewing with knit fabrics such a jersey. There are no real patterns, and instead this book focuses on patterns you may already have, or want to try. It covers everything from setting your machine write, finding the nap, and troubleshooting seams and hems. A Very well done book even for expert sewers.

Knits are a fantastic fabric although a challenge to work with at times even for the more experienced sewer. This handy book is a handy guide to sewing with knits, which will suit a range of sewing levels and even if you do not have an overlocker/serger. In a very short time you can make clothing with is comfortable to wear, does not need a lot of fitting and easy to care for.
This book was of particular interest to me as I am starting to sew a variety of workout clothing. The chapter on activewear and lingerie were particularly useful to me. It was also interesting to learn the properties of different knits and the garment types they suit. This book will take away any nerves you have about sewing with stretch fabric.
I call myself a visual sewer who learns by looking at illustrations/photos and reading. For some reason I couldnt access most of the photo illustrations and as a result am unable to comment on that side of things.

I've been sewing and dressmaking for some years, and consider myself experienced ... but I have always been reluctant to sew knit fabrics, having had some poor results. This book is a great help, for both beginner and more experienced sewers, and gives a thorough explanation of just how to cut, stitch and finished garments made from knitted and stretchy fabrics. It also explains how to alter patterns to fit correctly, how to use the correct needles and presser feet, and much more. I feel more confident now in using knits in my dressmaking, thanks to this book.

Sewing Knits from Fit to Finish is a comprehensive guide to handling and sewing knit and interlock fabrics. Author Linda Lee has teamed up with how-to publishers Quarto - Creative Publishing International to produce this well photographed and comprehensive tutorial guide.

The book is 144 pages and comes in softbound and ebook versions. It includes chapters on identifying and exploiting the characteristics of different types of knitted fabrics, choosing and purchasing knits for the correct project and progresses through finishing techniques etc.

The second chapter is the best single tutorial I've seen (in 45+ years of sewing) on taking accurate measurements, tissue fitting and adjusting patterns for custom fit. Really exemplary and accessibly written. The author is clearly a gifted teacher.

She has an informal and reassuring writing style. Though the tutorials aren't really aimed at the complete beginner, this book will serve as a valuable resource and reference to use and come back to as one progresses. The step-by-step photos are a plus and are accompanied by descriptive text to make the process as clear as possible.

I couldn't find any errors with the progression or the content.

Five stars. Really well written. Don't be afraid of knits!
