Diaper Duty Vampire

Overall a good chuckle of a vampire story. Especially liked when John first got to Cody. For a little guy he sure had a lot of character. Funny when they went to the store. I was a little confused at first though, as I thought Cody was younger than he was. Thought he was a baby, not a toddler. Anyway, their interaction made me laugh. John is a vampire enforcer, and when video tape shows Joann being kidnapped, he goes to her house to see if she was there. The neighbor lady gives him the boy and leaves, and then the fun begins. Luckily he knows the direction the bad vampire is going, so he follows and picks her up when she was trying to escape. I enjoyed this quick read, and it made me laugh. I also enjoyed the growing attraction between John and Joann, and little Cody fit right well with both. I didn't care as much for the creepy guy torturing her of course, and there were a few political parts between the two vampire factions that was not detailed enough to make clear sense to me. Not sure if discussed in another book, if so that would help to read those first, but since this the first book I've read I am only going by what I read here. I would recommend it highly, as there were plenty of fun parts, but wish it would have stayed lighter throughout. Otherwise, a fun read.

It felt like book 2 as their wasn't much explanation about the two types of vampires. It does read as a stand alone except for that. Loved the interaction between John and Cody. The blow out scene was a hoot. I rated this a 3.5. I would read more by this author and I say give it a try.

This was such an adorable little book. I love how John reacts to the blowout lmao. That Cody though...what a doll! I really enjoyed the whole story and I honestly can't wait for Justin's story.

Diaper Duty Vampire was a romp that I had fun with but did wish for a bit more information, more world building to bring this world to life for me. When the first book in a series gives me an idea of the good guys vs the bad guys, why there’s a problem between then and why I should care – well, it just lets me fall into that world easier. That’s a personal preference mainly because I felt like I missed a prequel that would have answered those things for me.

John and Joann were engaging together, but Cody stole this show completely. If you love laugh out loud moments, then you’ll find some classics in this story. In the end, I had fun with Diaper Duty Vampire and I’m looking forward to the next story in the series.

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. Diaper Duty Vampire is a short romp that will have you laughing out loud. Anyone who has ever had to change a stinky diaper will enjoy. This is the first in the Vampires of Amber Heights series and I am looking forward to future installments.

Cute. Overall, this book was a fun, quick read. The main characters were likable and entertaining. I did feel the book lacked depth, esp. in setting up the back story of the different vampire groups.

The best scene in the book was John's trip to the store with Cody -- I really did laugh out loud! The best scenes in the book were the ones with John, Joann, and Cody. They author did a great job showing the caring, compassionate nature of the characters.

The ending seemed a bit rushed and lackluster. Most likely, I would read the next book in the series. . .hoping the author provides more depth and back story.

This was so cute and light-hearted. It was an easy read and I love the way that Cody was able to wrap John around his finger even with all the exploding diapers. Joann was as tough as nails and didn't take anything lying down. I would recommend this book. Very enjoyable read. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute book- very different than most stuff out there. The main character was adorable, you can tell he's a "mans man" but facing down a toddler was just his perfect match to unbalance his manliness- at first. The tasks told of what he goes through was amazing to read in the sense that a man almost NEVER has to deal with what he did and he tackled it head on and almost perfectly. This book cracked me up at his cluelessness (if that is even a word) with what taking care of a toddler actually requires and it was so great to read. Of course when the mom is introduced into the mix I totally understood her concerns as a mother as well and the scenario she was in. The chemistry between them was sweet and not BAM in your face- I thought it was really well written to be honest. This is a great book and I'm interested to see where the next book will take us.

3.5 Hearts This is a cute story. It is a short read which has a bunch of humor and is a light fun read. It is not a book that you need to concentrate much on. But at the same time it is cuter than I expected.

Yes there are some scenes that make you roll your eyes but in a good way. Any parent would get a kick out of it.

This is cute...

After reading long fantasy series, I'm craving for something short and fluffy but still sweet, and going through my Netgalley shelf helped me find the right book. :)
Diaper Duty Vampire is perfect for my mood right now. It's a story of a single mother Joann, who's sole reason for living is her two-year old baby named Cody. But then she got entangled in a mess between vampires when she was kidnapped by one of them. Of course that lives Baby Cody alone, enter John. John's an enforcer currently in a case which led him to Joann and Cody's life. He ended up babysitting Cody while looking for Joann.

I love Cody and John. Their fist meeting was hilarious and had me cracking up, really. And the succeeding interactions between the two were very precious. I was also entertained by Joann and John romance but not as much as Cody and John moments. :)
If you want some intricate plot, you won't find it here. this is a very short romance but worth your time. The plot is actually so not complicated. But I'm okay with that. Like I said i'm in a mood for exactly this easy read. My only complain is that, since this is a first book in a series, the world should be introduced further. Yeah, it's not really a fictional world but it would be better if somehow there's an explanation how and why there are vampires. And their lives, politics maybe, rules, or whatever should have been explain more.
But overall this book is okay to me.:) :)

Diaper Duty Vampire is the first book of the Vampires of Amber Heights series by R.E. Mullins. However, this is the second vampire series, and this one is certainly related to the first. I think those that have read the The Blautsaugers of Amber Heights series that proceeds this will definitely get more from the read than those of us that were newcomers to the author.

During the Civil War, Union soldier, John Alden took a musket ball to the gut. As he gasped his final breath, he was turned into a vampire and started life anew in Amber Heights, Missouri. For over one hundred and fifty years, he's lived a rather solitary life as a vampire Enforcer. Young single mother, Joann Clarkson, needs a job and fast. Hoping to be rehired, she returns to Dr. Michaela Blautsauger's lab prepared to eat a hefty helping of humble pie. She comes to regret that decision when she's taken hostage. Things look grim but she'll never stop fighting to escape. Her son needs his mama. As an Enforcer, John must hunt down the vampire who kidnapped Joann. In his search, John winds up babysitting her toddler Cody. Changing diapers might be worse than getting staked, but nothing compares to how he feels when both mother and child fall into danger again.

Diaper Duty Vampire is a fast, fun read. I was greatly amused with John's efforts to tend to little Cody. The diaper blow outs and issue that come with taking care of a toddler had me giggling. Joann is not as fleshed out as I would have liked, but her character still had some spunk and that balanced it out a little for me. John is a more complex character, and I felt like I got more of his past and motivation than I did Joann's. The action was well done, and had me wondering what might happen next, but the romance felt a little flat. I did not get all the types of vampires and drama that caused the danger and suspense elements of the story, but I think that fans of the author will already have that back ground story and get more from it than I did. I did enjoy the read, but I was not blown away by it or intrigued enough to hunt down the previous books for the back story, or to follow up on the really good tease for the next book in the series.

Diaper Duty Vampire is a good weekend read, but I think it will be more satisfying to those that have read previous books by Mullins.

This was my first book by R. E. Mullins and I doubt it will be my last. First, time-travel, check, paranormal, check, cute toddler absolutely check. This was a well written story. It had fun and it was funny in all the right places. I loved the interaction between John and Joanne but honestly what pulled at me the most was John and Cody. Very good book. I liked it a lot. I really enjoyed this story

Joann had been working in the lab when suddenly the reinforced steel door that was kept dead bolted was kicked in and right off its hinges. The vampire had been looking for Dr. Blutsauger who had just left. Now Joann was tied up and gagged in the backseat of a small car. Joann had to get free and get back to her young son Cody who was only a toddler. Who would take care of Cody? Would she ever get back to him? She was divorced and had very little money but she had Cody who could make her darkest day bright. She was going to get free. She was going to emotionally and financially support him as he went through the ups and downs of life. No one was going to take that away from her. The vampire who had taken her was Vincent Sabriento. Vincent said he had a bounty on his head from both sides of the vampire sides now. Mateo is Vincent’s boss who was the head of the Toltec faction. Across town is the Vampire’s Enforcement break room. John sat down his glass of blood. Leto or Commander Leto was John’s boss. John was forced to turn into a vampire. Metta Blutsauger was involved with with Orcus- a Secretive Vampire Spy Agency. Than Kellen Green who said he was an agent explained Metta arms and legs were broken and had internal injuries and they couldn’t get a hold of Doc Michaela. A pastor had asked for Metta’s help tracking down Servico which was an organization trafficking illegal immigrants . Metta had gone rogue to help them. John ended up going to Joann’s home to see if she was there. When he got there the lady next store came out shoved Cody and his diaper bag into John’s arms and said she had to take her sister somewhere and Joann were already late getting home. John stopped at a shopping center and picked up several things he would need for Cody or he felt he would need including a new car seat . than after several stops on his way tracking vincent he pulled into a truck stop and saw Vincent's car he helped Joann escape and took her to his friends Justin’s home- who had taken John in with his brother turned him than abandoned him and told him to go to Justin if he needed help. That is where John took Joann and Cody to keep them safe.
I loved this book. It was a short read. I read this in one setting as I didn’t want to put it down. I had me from the first page until the last. I loved Cody and felt he added so much to this book. I laughed out loud while reading this and that isn’t that common for me. I also really loved how the author showed there were good and bad vampires as in humans. This was just an all around great paranormal read. I loved John and Joann together. I loved all the characters and all the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

This was cute for as short as it is. Not sure if I would read any more in this series. I love good guy vampires, but would like them to be a little tougher as well.
