Description

Is it a Marriage of Convenience or something more? Something that sizzles like steam heat between Maddie and Jake that neither can resist!

Oil heiress Madeline Quinn needs a husband by the time she turns twenty-five in order to claim her full inheritance. Mad Maddie, as the tabloids christened her, has learned the hard way that men only see dollar signs when they look at her.

Maddie decides a marriage of convenience is the only answer. She turns to the one man in the world she can trust, her housekeeper’s son who always treated her like a kid sister--much to her dismay--when they were kids growing up together.

Jake Becker hasn’t seen Maddie since the night she tried to seduce him. Why should he help the woman who changed the course of his life? Simple. Revenge.

Or is it something else? Something unexpected like sizzling desire between them that will not be denied?

Is it a Marriage of Convenience or something more? Something that sizzles like steam heat between Maddie and Jake that neither can resist!

April Fool Bride is a sizzling romance. Good plot and well developed characters. The author is new to me and I can see myself reading more of her books.

I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two characters. A must read.

April Fool Bride was a fast, fun read. What appealed to me about this story is that it is—technically—a second chance romance and a marriage of convenience, two of my favorite tropes. Years ago oil heiress Maddie had a huge crush on the housekeeper’s son, Jake. One night she decided to act on that teenage crush and let’s just say that it didn’t end all that great for him. Or her, really.
Fast forward to the future and Maddie needs a man she can trust and there’s only one man she’s ever met who fits the bill. Jake.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this story is the deft way Joan Reeves was able to flesh out the characters by using the other character’s perspective. When we first learn about Maddie, it’s through Jake and it ain’t pretty. He makes her seem almost irredeemable, which did color my opinion of her. But we learned more about the new grownup Maddie through Jake’s perspective, which also made it clear why he fell for her.
This is a fast read, only about 120+ pages, but it reads like a full length story in that there are no elements missing. The mom and the stepmom were fun, meddlesome, characters who added a few layers of depth to tell us who our hero and heroine really are. It was hot, fun and fast, but most of all it was a good time!

Maddie Quinn has always loved Jake Becker and after making a foolish mistake years ago she is now going to be all business with her proposition to him. She needs to marry him on April Fool's Day so she can get control of her trust fund. Jake doesn't understand why but he will go along with the 'fake' marriage to see where it goes. He has money of his own but Maddie does not seem to know that. Can they find more than the 'fake' marriage they start with?

I really enjoyed reading this book! Even though I was sometimes frustrated (as intended by the author) that it took those two some time to realize what they have and how good they are together, I absolutely loved the chemistry they had.
Rather short but sweet and intriguing, this is a book that I'll certainly read again. I'm really looking forward to reading other books by this author as well..

Surprising refreshing. Not what I expected at all. Thought it would be a funny light chick lit with no substance. This is a very interesting story. Luckily for me I chose the by the cover (and title) then succeed to picked a winner. am looking for to reading the full series and then go back and read previous books by Ms. Reeves.

She asked him to marry her to get her inheritance. She has to be married before she can get it. They known each other for a while and he has resentment towards her but will he help her. He learns some interesting stuff about her. Her step mother is a piece of work trying to control her and the money. Secrets are told and it was a great romance

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Madeline Quinn is need of a husband before April 1st or she will lose her inheritance. With a marriage of convenience, her only hope, Maddy turns to her first love Jake. The only man she can trust not to take advantage of her situation.
Jake Becker hasn’t seen Maddie since the night she tried to seduce him. His life changed that night and he hold Maddie responsible. Seizing the opportunity to get revenge, he agrees to Maddie’s proposition.
Sparks fly between them, but can they move on from the events of the past.
This is a quick read, but the story does not suffer from the length. The plot develops at a good pace and the characters are well rounded. I would recommend this book.

In Romance we’re used, especially in historical, to marriage of convenience at the hero’s request. April Fool Bride is a contemporary story of marriage of convenience at the heroine’s request, and that was enough to intrigue me.

We meet Maddie when she comes to offer Jake an arrangement for one year, with a substantial salary into the bargain. She needs to be married before her 25th birthday some days later to touch her inheritance, but we only know why late in the story because she avoid Jake’s questions. I liked her character, she was the typical example of the rich and out of control daughter of… , and an arrest when she was driving drunk changed her, even if the tabloids still shows her under the worst light. She created an armor under which she hides a big sensitivity she doesn’t show anyone, less of all to Jake.

Jake is a successful businessman and with Maddie they’ve known each other since childhood as Jake’s mother used to work for Maddie’s stepmother. A big misunderstanding made Jake angry at Maddie for the way her stepmother chased him, and if we can reproach to the hero his quite exaggerated reaction, we mustn’t forget he was very young too. I didn’t really like that he first accept the arrangement to get revenge from the heroine, and I liked that he realizes very quickly that Maddie isn’t who the tabloids depict anymore.

So yes as the story is short their adolescent desire is still there, even stronger, and they soon yield to it. But in spite of that we can see the evolution of their feelings and thoughts and the way they discover each other when the story takes place on few days. In fact I only thought it was too bad the ending seems a bit rushed because the story was great until then. Same thing with the relation between Maddie and her stepmother which is solved too fast as if the author had a format to respect.

To conclude a cute story I really liked in spite of this rushed ending, and the glimpse of the second volume made me want to read it (if it’s ever published as it seems to be on hold).

A good quick read with a really interesting plot this is the first in the series and also the first I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more from Joan in the future. I really liked both Maddie and Jake friends since they were kids when she needs a husband it makes sense to ask him. But will they be able to keep in as a marriage of convenience or will their old feeling resurface?

Second chance at love..
Maddie needed her trust fund and she won't get her trust fund unless she is married by her birthday which is on April's fools day. She couldn't think of anybody to fulfill her fake husband non other than Jack, her real love since fifteen. She assumes Jack is unemployed at the moment and she thinks it will help him.
Jack couldn't and won't forget Maddie. His mother worked for Maddie's parents and he was always around Maddie. When Maddie wanted to show him her love, her stepmother finds them and blames Jack and threatens his future when he had full scholarship to go to college. So he really hates Maddie's stepmother and when Maddie offers marriage contract, he couldn't think of better way to get back at her stepmother.
Now they have play a role of loving couple. sparks are flying between them but they won't tell each other how they feel. They have an year to figure out or that day will come soon?

It was short novella with sweet ending.
Thanks to Netgalley for ARC in exchange for honest review.

This is a nice short read. The story is about a lonely woman looking for a way to fill her void. A bitter man who loves the woman but he feels wronged and betrayed. Marriages of convenience rarely go as planned. This read is very much worth you time.
