Description

A thief, an assassin, a mage and a cleric walk into a tavern in the ancient city of Umber. Awaiting them is a mysterious bard with a dangerous scheme: to break into the dungeon of a powerful death cult in search of treasure. For these five desperate criminals, it's the last chance for hope in a city of corruption and despair. But what they find instead is an undead army preparing to conquer the world. Now, they must fight to protect the city that pushed their backs to the wall, or watch it burn. A really good graphic novel fantasy story. A thief, an assassin, a mage and a cleric plan to rob a powerful cult of treasure which is hidden deep within a mysterious temple. When they break in they discover an army of evil poised to take over the city and the group find themselves fighting to save a city that had never truly accepted them. Suddenly their city is a place worth fighting for but each person has their own challenges and history to overcome.

This is an enjoyable story with rich characters and fast paced action. It is a story of misfits who become heroes each in their own way and in the background is a city which is embroiled in politics and oppression. The group find that they are fighting to save a place that was never truly home to them but perhaps fighting to save the city may eventually redeem it. The artwork is good and conveys all the twists and turns of the story and this makes for an enjoyable reading experience. I think anyone who likes fantasy and graphic novels will enjoy this.

A semi-standard band of adventurers meet up in one of Umber's many bars to plot a quest for treasure. Each member has his or her own reason for going, but things did not turn out as planned. Rather than treasure in the Tower, they found danger for the city. And when the danger threatened, this unlikely band joined others to defend their city from a mad cult. Plenty of intrigue, bit of character building, some nice twits and dark toned artwork made this comic an enjoyable read. It will be interesting finding out what happens next.
