Description
Tall, dark, elegant and tough, Blackstone grew up in the roughest slums of London. He now rubs shoulders with high society as easily as he moves among the thieves, whores and cut-throats of the nineteenth-century underworld. His dangerous career has made him a crack shot - and given him a taste for good wine and fine women. He is ruthless and courageous, and above all a Bow Street Runner.
Blackstone receives a challenge from the mysterious ‘Diddiki' that they will break into the bullion vaults of the Bank of England. Suddenly he is faced with a dilemma: a pretty girl implores him to rescue her 13-year-old brother from the gallows. But will he have time to save both the boy and his own professional reputation? The race against time takes him on a dramatic chase through the twilight world of London's underground waterways.
Blackstone Underground is the fifth Blackstone novel.

Blackstone while trying to decide how to orchestrate the escape of a young lad from Newgate before he is hung, is being taunted by 'The Diddiki'. That they can break into the vaults of the Bank of England at a prearranged time and the Bow Street Runners cannot stop them.
An enjoyable well-written thriller.

Watching his friend hang in Newgate for thievery was not just a heart-wrenching thing for a fourteen-year-old to witness, it was also a catalyst for the change that he underwent, Edmond Blackstone was given a new lease on life for. He has now become a fierce and feared Bow-street runner, charged with finding the culprits whose aim is to discredit the bow street runners, they aim to do this by robbing the bank of England, imagine that. Life on the streets of 19th century London was no bed of roses, you could say it was the pot of degradation and all things vile, here is where Edmond grew up, now all his hard work is going to come to naught if he doesn't catch these criminals, slowly his stripes are being removed and and the life he had built for himself is now being threatened, time is running out. This tale gave a peek into life on the streets of London in the 19th century, with the darkness of the period of time, I am captivated by the storyline it is intriguing, thrilling, and entertaining, the characters are gems, this book is a well crafted one.

I’ve said it before, these are my favorite historical detective/crime thrillers. Falkirk, pseudonym of author Derek Lambert , writes like a dream, lean, tense with an air of historical accuracy. This six book series staring Blackstone is an undiscovered gem. Trust me on this.
