This Friends to Lovers Romance is a fascinating concept where two grieving children form an incredible bond which follows them into adulthood.
Astraea has a happy childhood until tragedy strikes. She has a loving mother and, Jasmine as her best friend.
Gabriel has been through his own tragedy and his family has now moved to a new area. He lives with his father and three brothers, Michael, Rafael and Uriel.
During the summer holidays, Astraea and her mother drives from her home in Spring Valley to visit Suzy, a close friend in Benton, Texas. Gabriel and his family are Suzy's new neighbours. This is where seven year old Astraea meets nine year old Gabriel. They become close friends and as these visits become a holiday tradition, their friendship grows from the strength to strength. They trust and support each other, but don’t own up to their true feelings.
When Gabriel turns eighteen, he decides to join the army, but promises to be there when needed. Unfortunately, not long after, Astraea is hit with yet another tragedy. Although, she understands Gabriel's absence, she feels let down. Being in the army, he is having his fair share of problems which will be the game changer to their relationship. PTSD!
As time goes by, they drift further apart from each other. Gabriel doesn't wish to burden Astraea, but she lives in hope. By trying to move on, she makes the mistake of trusting the wrong person and being in a bad place blurrs her choice. Once she realises her mistake, she decides to get her life back and be her real self. Will she be brave enough to confront Gabriel about their feelings or is it too late?
This journey encompasses the different stages of their lives and their trials and tribulations. The twist towards the end is totally unexpected and Astraea goes through another traumatic experience. Gabriel and Astraea are soul mates, but circumstances appear to go against them. It's an intriguing storyline with a lot of pain and heartaches, but ends beautifully. Although, I found some of the scenarios a little too lengthy, I enjoyed Gabriel's and Astraea's difficult but rewarding journey. I hope there are sequels with the other brothers' stories. They are fun and supportive. A lovable bunch.
