Description

Europe, 2159

“The world ended nearly one hundred and fifty years ago—they say the flames from our sun cascaded down to earth like sparkling, flaming serpents, and then vanished in an instant, leaving our world in utter darkness, filling it with every supernatural being imaginable. This darkness lasted three days’ time, ending when the moon’s mysterious light illuminated the world with its despondent glow, revealing that only chaos remained.

I was born fifty years after that night and was given a curse at birth. Some may have called it a blessing, as I’m sure it was intended to be—to have immortality given to them at birth—but there was a cost for my safety that none had anticipated. I could not die, but I also could not feel, mentally or physically. My emotions were so greatly suppressed I wasn't able to feel love, compassion, hate, or fear. Only my anger was strong enough to seep through. That was, until I met him…

My name is Evangeline and this is my story; a tale of how I learned who I was… not a demon, or an angel, but what both make me…”

Love the cover artwork, it’s sort of soft haunting but tells you everything you need to know. For a character that isn’t supposed to really feel emotion, the story is loaded with it. Friendships, betrayal, love and a lot of pain. A lot of action and fighting. It’s one of those classic dramatic ones with the characters being honourable with catchphrases and questions during each fight and cue the old fashioned evil laughter. With the scenery and mix of vampires, werewolves, demons and angels, it gave me a sort of castlevania nostalgia. There’s strong themes of good vs evil and the grey area in between. It’s not just Eva who’s struggling with her inner demons. My favourite character was Kieran, expect the unexpected and all that. I enjoyed it.

This is a bit of a strange review request because the book is 11 years old.

Anyway it tells the story of Evangeline who is half demon and half angel. She lives in a mountain range and lives in a world where there is no sun. The light has been blocked by an angel and so the supernatural run the world.

It was a good story though, a little different from the norm and i quite enjoyed it.
