Description

Anita Stalls, a retired business executive in her seventies, is on the trip of a lifetime. As she boards the train that will take her back to the southern town of Greendale, Mississippi, where she has not set foot in more than fifty years, Anita is filled with anticipation, apprehension, and heartrending remembrances of her childhood.

As she settles back into her train seat for the long ride, her mind soon drifts to the days of her youth spent in Greendale. Sent to live with Moses and Annie Pearl at age four while her mother sought work in another city, it does not take long for Anita to adapt to her new family that includes the elderly grandmother she lovingly calls Mah. Happy living in a little shotgun house in the country surrounded by chickens, mules, and cows, Anita becomes the daughter Moses and Annie never had. As the train sways back and forth and her recollections become more vivid, Anita suddenly feels a sense of longing for the years gone by.

I Remember Them is the touching tale of one womans journey through time as she faces the myriad of emotions that accompany the return to her childhood home.

There has only been one other book that I've read that I did not want to end. This is the second one. I feel like I got to know Anita and loved how she traveled down memory lane. The nostalgia that came along with this book was overwhelming. Juanita Campbell Rogers put pen to paper in the most heartfelt way. I look forward to her next book no matter what it is. This book is truly a must read! Sandra Barnes

The characters are so real, it's unbelievable! Juanita did a great job in taking you with her on her journey down memory lane. Marie M.

I like this book a lot! Anita is an elderly lady on a train going back to her
earlier home and remembering her life growing up. This brought back a
lot of memories in my younger years as well. It's a quick read but it covers
much of her memories of her family. It kept my attention with the shotgun
house, the outhouse, the way they cooked, made meals, gathered to make
quilts, handmade clothes and working the farm on the plantation. I give it
4 stars for the way it took me back to earlier times.

Sweet story about a woman in her 70's taking a train ride back home. The home she hadn't seen since her high school graduation.
All along the nine hours train trip, she reminisces about growing up in a small.town and the wonderful people, she met along the way.
When she reached her destination, she thought, how much it had changed, with new stores, apartments and eateries.
As she stepped from the train, she went back in time, once again and thought to herself, yes, "I Remember Them.."
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this novel by Juanita Rogers and give my honest review.

Short but sweet tale of an Elderly Lady, Anita Stalls. Anita is traveling by train to her childhood home in Greendale Mississippi. She also takes a trip down memory lane. While on the train she recalls many happenings as a child growing up with her real and adopted family. I think this would be awesome to listen to as an audiobook. It would be like setting by your Grandmother listening to tales of the Good Old days. I really enjoyed. I do wish it was longer, and I feel like a few details were left out, but still a great read.

This book seemed like a nice Sunday dinner fashioned with love and the right ingredients. It was reminiscent of stories my Great Gran would tell about her childhood. This is a nice, wholesome and easy read. I was "well fed." I recommend this to all lovers of historical fiction, history and family stories.

A short a well written memoir of 70 year old Anita returning home for a visit. While I agree with other reviewers that the story is choppy at times, I would argue that memories do that too. Interesting story, and one I recommend. New to me author, but enjoyed her writing style.

What a lovely story. If you are looking for a quick read, a story that will leave you with a gentle smile, and remind you of a visit with Aunt Bee in Mayberry, this is it. It is a collection of memories from youth in another time.

The memories are of growing up with good and loving people in a rural town. People who help each other through the difficulties of life and share the joy of the good times. I hope that today's young people read a story like this. I've seen society change. Maybe this can relay the message that it isn't material stuff that matters in life. it is being there and doing what you can for the good of those around you.
