Description

In her honest and engaging new memoir, The Secret Life of a Weight-Obsessed Woman: Wisdom to Lead a Life You Crave (Ladies, Ink, January 30, 2018), Pastor describes the vicious cycle of bingeing and purging as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Offering an inside look at what it’s like to live with a shameful secret for decades, she shares her struggle to eradicate the monster within, proving that re-engagement and recovery is possible at any time of your life.

“My story is a source of both comfort, confrontation, and owning your actions,” says Pastor. “I want to simply and honestly reflect my struggles and my triumphs—to provide inspiration to those who think they cannot beat their own eating disorder to a pulp. Because I believe they can.”

Unlike the sea of other books written about eating disorders, The Secret Life of a Weight-Obsessed Woman is a personal reflection that reveals unique factors that trigger disorder eating  in older women, and the different challenges that arise. Pastor chronicles with candor her uplifting story to show how others can break free from their illness and discover a happier, healthier life.

Featured Reviews

"The Secret Life of a Weight-Obsessed Woman" by Iris Pastor is a wonderful book. Pastor tackles a topic that has rarely been written about, especially by a woman in her 60's: lifelong struggle with bulimia. Her honesty, vulnerability, and quest to bring awareness to this eating disorder make for a compelling read. Pastor is a fine, expressive writer. She explains which tools and programs helped her achieve her recovery from bulimia. Her bravery in overcoming her shame and sharing the truth of her "ED" (eating disorder) with her family, friends, and the public is commendable and inspiring. Highly recommended!
