♥ AN ENCHANTING MEDIEVAL EPIC OF ABSOLUTE TRUE LOVE ♥

Nathaniel and Madeline are childhood companions, though mismatched to be sure. He is the son of a servant and she, the daughter of the Lord of the castle. Nevertheless, they are inseparable, each unaware of the deep emotions of the other until it is too late. One stolen night is all they are granted before Madeline is given in marriage to the wealthy and titled, Earl of Marbourne, who is fast friends with the king.

A whirlwind of intrigue and contrivance follows Nathaniel and Madeline as they join the court and Madeline catches the eye of the king. A story of love, lust, betrayal, greed, and even murder. It seems that the twists and turns of cruel fate conspire to keep Madeline and Nathaniel apart despite their desperate love.

"It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is OVERRULED BY FATE."
~ Christopher Marlowe

I absolutely loved this book. It is an enchanting story of Madeline and Nathaniel. Unrequited love between two people who could never be together. He is the son of a maid at the home of royalty and she the daughter of a Lord. Friends since childhood, he protected her from any harm, except an arranged marriage her father wants. Madeline wants to be with Nathaniel one time before she gets married. The man her father picked is a kind man but falls ill soon after the wedding. So much intrigue and deception involving the King as well as the nephew and possible heir of Endle, Madeline's husband. If he dies without an heir, his nephew gets everything. He would do anything to inherit. Betrayal, love and lust keeps the couple apart. I did not see the end coming but I loved the way everything came together. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review and no compensation otherwise.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. Madeline has known Nathaniel all her life, and he has always been her knight in shining armor. Nathaniel has adored Madeline since she was born. But Madeline's father makes an agreement for her to marry an Earl. Fate continues to conspire to keep them apart. Madeline joins the court and catches the eye of the king. This is a story of enduring love versus fate. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

Wow. I laid off of a lot of historic romances of late because I found that a lot of the themes and story-lines were far too similar and nothing new was surfacing. I'm SO glad I found this book. Never one to shy away from material dealing with love between life long friends, I read the summary on this and decided to give it a go -- I have no regrets!

Madeline and Nathaniel have been tied at the hip since the day M was born. Nathaniel always looked out for her and was considered by all her protector. As the years went on and nothing changed the way they felt about each other matured just as they did. The night before M is given to an older lord in marriage something happens between them that changes everything and thus begins their angsty journey of forbidden love.
My favorite things about Snow's writing in this body of work is that she offers several point sof view Each section or chapter begins with someone's perspective be it our two main characters, the scullery maid or the villain. I feel her choice to do this made the book more complete and helped with character development as we are privy to some of the characters private thoughts and motions.

I'm really quite happy to have found Leila Snow and I'm excited to read her other novel!

This book ticked all of the boxes for me from the very start. I love historically set novels especially when an effort is made to evoke the period. In Overruled by fate, this isn't achieved by the language that people use, but I felt the attitudes and ideas fit the time very well. On the whole, the book didn't try too hard, by throwing archaic phrases. Although there were a couple of times that modern expressions or language did creep in, it didn't detract from the whole read.

I was completely immersed in this book until around the halfway mark. Unfortunately, around then, something happened. I'm not sure if it was me, or the style of the writing, but it didn't seem to be flowing quite as well. There was a little too much telling rather than showing. It's a real shame because I think that aside, this would have been a solid five star read.

Overall, I loved the story. The author didn't pull any punches when it came to the characters behaving as they would have been expected to at the time. There were no convenient get-out clauses for awkward or unpleasant duty and I felt the read and storyline was much richer for it.

This is a fantastic story, well told and one that takes you on a very emotional journey of highs and lows. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to lovers of historical fiction and romance.

Overruled by Fate is a story of two lovers from different social classes set in historic England. A young male servant sworn to protect a Lord's only daughter from harm only leads both of them into heartbreak later in life. As they grow up, the truest of friends, will they ever one day be together? As the daughter draws closer to marriage age, she must fulfil her father's wishes and marry within their status. But will their new found love ever be enough? Will she soon to realise that the only person she truly loved was right before her eyes?

This book written by Leila Snow was beautifully written. The story flowed from when the characters were children to adult maturity. The author was able to enriched the story with so many emotions of the main characters and the strain they must endure for the longing to be together. A very good book!
