Description
MULTI AWARD-WINNING SCANDI CRIME SERIES FROM THE THIRD BESTSELLING AUTHOR IN DENMARK.
Detective Chief Inspector Axel Steen – the Copenhagen Homicide Department’s ‘problem child’ – is a divorced father with relationship problems, an increasing dependence on hash and an irrational fear of his own death.
He lives alone in an old apartment in Nørrebro, a bohemian district of Copenhagen. At a cemetery close by, an unidentified man is found murdered, his body propped up against a wall. Axel is called to the scene. The investigation initially points towards a member of the police force being responsible, following the demolition earlier that day of the nearby Youth House, a notorious meeting point for left-wing activists. But Axel soon finds out that many people, both inside and outside the police force, have an unusual interest in the case – and in preventing it from being solved.
Steen’s investigation takes him right to the heart of the Copenhagen drug trade, dominated by a local gang and pushers from the Balkans.
Despite being in the middle of a personal crisis, Axel will not stop until the case is solved, whatever the consequences. But the consequences turn out to be larger than expected – especially for Axel himself.
Jesper Stein worked for eight years as a crime reporter. Unrest, his first book featuring Axel Steen, won the Danish Crime Academy’s Debut Novel Award in 2012.
