Description

Ambitious women are so scary. In this fast-paced business world, female leaders need to make sure they’re not perceived as pushy, aggressive, or competent. In the satirical How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings, Sarah Cooper, author of the bestselling 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings, hilariously illustrates how women can achieve their dreams, succeed in their careers, and become leaders, without harming the fragile male ego.

Chapters include, among others, “9 Non-threatening Leadership Strategies for Women,” "How to Ace Your Job Interview Without Over-acing It," and “Choose Your Own Adventure: Do You Want to Be Likable or Successful?” It even includes several pages to doodle on while men finish what they're saying. Each chapter also features an exercise with a set of "inaction items" designed to challenge women to be less challenging.

And, when all else fails, a set of wearable mustaches is included to allow women to seem more man-like. This will cancel out any need to change their leadership style. In fact, it may even lead to a quick promotion!

Hilarious, yet a painfully accurate commentary on how to succeed with hurting men's feelings or damaging their ego. A must read for everyone. I have already referred it to three people, and I finished reading it about an hour ago.

Hilarious!!!!!! One of the best feminist books I've ever read. I'm sure every women can relate to these pages, and I hope men will think differently after reading it.

This book was hilarious! Unfortunately, it was also very true. Hopefully men who read this will think about their behavior in the workplace.

This book is awesome. It was a super quick read but it made me laugh out loud constantly. I wanted to share it with all the threateningly successful women I know and I even showed parts to my husband (a man who is secure enough in himself to laugh and not feel threatened). I loved the format, the comic book like style, and the humor. I am excited to read more of this author’s books! Thanks to netgalley for providing a free copy for me to review.

This is a hilarious satirical book that made me laugh out loud several times. It's a very quick, light read, but enjoyable nonetheless. The author's aim was "to write a book that was hopefully funny but could also make people want to throw it across the room" and she achieves this perfectly. It's a great mix of comedy but also very real understanding of the frustrations of living as a woman in a patriarchal society.

The handbook for a girl trying to get ahead in a world created for men. This satirical book made me laugh a lot, made me want to screenshot so many things for my wallpaper on my ipad as I was reading it but, also held some very painful truths in a light hearted way. It’s a good book for when you just want to take a break from the stress of work or those debates you may find yourself in with your significant other when he says something just a little offensive and you know he just might not understand the struggle. *eARC Netgalley*

Hilarious! This witty, brutal but honest guide would sure make you plan for your big jump and attack for greatness (without of course hurting men)

However, at some point I find it confusing. I know it's supposed to be sarcastic but sometimes I can't identify which is real. I want to take it so serious that it'll be my "How-to" but then again, I may find myself a laughing stock by men with huge ego. The book is very entertaining with all the illustrations and exercises plus tons of examples and comparisons.

"So how do you feel successful without hurting men's feelings? You don't. You be successful whether men's feelings are hurt or not, because really that's up to them, not you."

Just when you thought you couldn't be entertained any more thoroughly... Here's a book for all women, with humor and all the relevance we could hope for. Yes, this is not the world our mothers knew... But that doesn't mean we can't be successful.

Thanks to author/publisher for the ARC.

Absolutely hilarious book. So many laugh out loud moments. Honestly very few that i did not laugh.

While the book sounds more geared towards professional women, most boss worker relationships can fit into the examples given. No boss likes a smart employee.

The one with the email cc, content of the email and how to use mathematical terms to sound smart are genius.

Have already recommended this book to all my coworkers!

This is a good fun book that very much addresses the stereotypes within the office environment (we all know at least one of these!).

"How to Be Successful without Hurting Men's Feelings" is a sarcastic, satirical take on advice books geared towards career woman to teach them how to navigate the workplace. Covering topics like what the perfect female vocal pitch is and men and women can say the exact same thing, but it can be perceived in different ways, This book highlights the real issues woman face not only in the workplace, but in society. Accompanied with hilarious illustrations and captions throughout, it is a quick, laugh out loud experience Because if you can't laugh about it, you're probably crying instead.

Sarah Cooper's book - coming up in a bookstore near you this end October - is for those weak of heart women looking for a hilarious survival guide in a male-dominated tech, or publishing or high-end corporation environment. Add what is close to your professional home. 'Being ambitious, seeking power, showing knowledge, these are all dangerous paths if we really want to be successful and get a head'.

In order to help you out, this book offers creative yet simple illustrations with simple explanations, blank pages to doole while men are explaining things and highly inspiring titles such as: 'How to talk like a man but still be seen as a woman', 'How to advance your career without blowing it in everyone's face', 'How to bury your true self to work and then hide it completely'. Plus stickers suggestions for accomplishments 'such as treating a woman like a human'. 'When all else fails, a set of wearable mustaches is included to allow women to seem more manlike, canceling out any need to be less threatening'. In case you need some easy to understand references, the chart 'toddler vs. CEO' helps you perfectly to figure out what some highly displayed emotions are all about.

It is a hilarious but 'oh, so true' read. Read it loud and laugh out louder, and keep being authentic doing exactly the opposite the women characters in this book are doing.

This book is a guide to help women navigate difficult workplace situations. It is marketed as a humorous book (and in fact is very funny) but is also an accurate portrayal of the issues women still face today on their professional lives.

Some of the chapters titles are "COMMUNICATION: How to talk like a man but still be seen as a woman", "AMBITION: How to advance your career without shoving it in everyone's face", and "NEGOTIATION: gaslightning for beginners".

I read the book in a seating and it includes illustrations that describe different situations women may encounter and the corresponding responses they should have when encountering those situations.

Overall, I liked it, it was highly entertaining as wells as a relevant and light-hearted portrayal of the workplace today.

How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings Review by Sarah Cooper

I can’t stop laughing! This quick read was the perfect on sitting laugh fest that I have been looking for. Sarah Cooper really understand the frustrations of being a woman in the workforce.

“If you have the choice between saving a man’s ego or saving his life, trust me. Save the ego. He’ll thank you for it later. I mean, he won’t because he’ll be dead, but you know what I mean.” This quote from the introduction of this book really says it all. This book is perfect for working women who know that the world isn’t equal and sometimes just want to laugh at the stupid things that happen just because you’re a woman.

I really enjoyed the “Lower Expectations” action plan. With this fun worksheet, I now know how to properly lower my career, life and family expectations. There is even a choose your own adventure chapter to this book and achievement stickers. This book ties together beautiful typography with funny and true graphics.

This book teaches women everything from how to smile right to voice loudness and everything in between. Every woman needs this satirical book in their life. But as this wonderful book says “You do you! No, not that you the other you the one people like.” Seriously - I going to go pre-order copies for all of my favorite feminists. It’s the perfect book to read when you’re feeling stressed about something at work and just need to laugh it off.

Dear author and publisher, why do you come up with this book only now?! Ten years ago, a friend who recruited me to their company told me that the reason I was not hired because the supervisor who conducted the interview was threatened by my skills. Several years after that, I had a job interview in the I.T. department of a huge local T.V. station here in the country. I had no problems with my series of interview with the human resources head, but when I was interviewed by two supervisors from the department where I should be assigned, I encountered a bit of problem because of being honest. When I was asked if I can do hard coding, I answered that I can but that's my biggest mistake because I was compared to one of them. The one who asked me the question candidly joke that I beat his companion because he cannot do it, which made the receiver of the remark speechless and humiliated. And yes, all supervisors who turn down my applications were all male!

If only this book was released sooner, I could have learned how to deal with those men. The content may be in humor form, but there's a bit of truth to the details especially on how some men still think that the workforce should be still male-dominated. They may not admit it but there are instances that they are threatened by their female counterpart. I'm quite sure that all employed ladies or used to worked before has experienced several instances that were listed in this book. I could grab copies of this and give as a present to some friends, particularly those who currently experience sexism from their work.

Hilarious look at the sad state of how women are treated in the work place. When you think about it too much you either have to laugh or cry and, like the author, I would rather laugh. So much of what is joked about in this book is true. Often truer than true. I would love to leave copies of this on everyone's desk at work (including the bosses) in hopes that it could bring enlightenment to some and chuckles to others.

You know when something is even funnier when it's true? And sometimes something is so, so true it makes you want to laugh but also weep and tear your own hair out at the same time?

That's being a woman in the workplace in a nutshell.

Sarah Cooper's "How to be Successful without Hurting Men's Feelings" is so real it hurts. Hurts because of how much you'll laugh but also how you'll recognize all the situations she describes and go "same." At one point, there is a pie graph entitled "Know Who's Accountable for Harassment." A tiny sliver is The Company, another tiny sliver is The Harasser. 90% of the graph is "YOU."

Yep.

If you're female and have a job, you will appreciate this book. It will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again. Then you'll be inspired to pick up a sledge hammer and smash Toxic Male Workplace Culture. Screw men's fragile ego.

"Because you know what's more precious than my hopes and dreams? A man's ego.

A man's ego must be protected at all cost."

How to Be Successful without Hurting Men's Feelings: Non-threatening Leadership Strategies for Women is really, really good.

It's one of those books that is so successful because not only is it genuinely funny (with wonderful visual aids and illustrations to boot) but it's all so painfully true, and timely.

Within the pages of this book, you will find helpful tips for how to ace your interview (without over-acing it), how to talk like a man (but be seen as a woman) and how to be harassed (but protect your harasser). I can't think of a woman who wouldn't relate to at least one thing that is discussed in this book but I can certainly think of plenty of men that will be OUTRAGED by it, which, who cares? This book isn't for them. This book is for the women who experience all of these things and have to be able to laugh about them so that they won't die inside every second of the workday.

I kept flagging pages that I wanted to pull quotes from for this review but I quickly found that I was tagging nearly every other page. The only one I felt compelled to include is the one that I opened with here; for all of the other incredible ones, you'll just have to go and read this for yourself!

I was unfamiliar with Sarah Cooper before picking up this book and I plan to correct that mistake immediately by going back and reading anything and everything else she has ever written.

This is excellent satire. I'm sure there will be people very offended by it.
Oh well.
Having worked in retail (even though this book seems to pertain to office work) I can tell you that there's an uncomfortable amount of truth in this book.

If you're a woman in the workplace, you know that you are much more scrutinized than your male colleagues. You know that what you do, even if it's the exact same thing that a male colleague might do, will be looked upon differently because you're a woman. You'll find yourself changing what you do, how you do it, what you say, how you say it, so as not to get other folks (men AND women) up in arms. If you're a woman in the workplace, I'm sure you'll find something to identify with in this satirical collection of comics.

This is the kind of book that you read and laugh with to keep from wanting to burn the world down in a rage crying. You can laugh at these situations and the way Sarah Cooper portrays them as long as you don't think too hard about how painfully accurate they are and what they mean for our world.

In case you are a man (or hell, sometimes even a woman) who does not believe these things to be true or worse, denies them, I'm not sure what can be done for you, but I have literally seen something of these things happen in front of me.

Well. I did not mean for this review to sound angry but oops—I thought too hard about these issues!

A humorous (if not very prescient) and tongue-in-cheek collection of workplace tips & tricks for career success geared toward female readers.

Loved, loved, LOVED this book! It is hilarious, but also speaks to the larger issues of gender discrepancy in the workplace. Highly recommended to working women or those hoping to get a glimpse into their experience and perspective.

A must read. Truthful, raw, honest. A very informative book as well. I plan to gift this book to several of my friends.

A funny, sarcastic and downright witty book. The author Sarah Cooper shares plenty of tips and tricks to survive that egotistical male at the workplace. Some of the quips were spot on and thoroughly laughable. I can imagine holding this book in print and doodling on one of the blank pages included in the book for this purpose.
