Huge thank you to Harper Impulse and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

What a thoroughly enjoyable little story! It wasn’t quite contemporary and it wasn’t quite fantasy, in fact I’m not sure what category I’d put it in, but either way it was the perfect thing to read between other very long, intense (and sometimes not as enjoyable) novels. It was funny, quirky, and somehow weirdly cosy. It kind of reminded me of a fluffier version of Practical Magic meets New in Town and I adore both of those movies. "Big city girl trying to adjust to small town life" is one of my favourite guilty pleasure tropes and with this one there's the added bonus of magic!

This is a cute, engaging and funny story. At the hurried and vague request of her aunt, Susanna rushes to her aid only to find her aunt missing and a pie bakery to run. Susanna does not bake and her pies show it. If not for the daily devoted crew of friends and the handsome, Henry, the pie shop would go under. Plus, there are some weird things going on in the small town and Susanna is determined to figure out what is going on and to find her missing aunt.

Enjoyed the book and was a cute story. I would give it 3.5 stars. It made me hungry for pie, maybe not Susanna’s. All around it was a fun read and made me happy. It was full of magic and mystery. I wish my kitchen would magically clean itself every night. I loved the characters, story and writing style. I definitely knew something was going on with all the strange things that happened in the town, especially the spotless kitchen.

Susanna receives a message from her Aunt Erma requesting help with her pie shop. Susie hasn’t seen her aunt in years and drives to Hocus Hills to help her out. When she arrives, there’s no sign of her aunt just a note asking her to keep the pie shop running and to take care of Mitzy, her dog. Making pies is not Susanna’s strong point, plus a cookie shop has opened up a few shops down. The Morning Pie Crew does their best to help Susanna out. Aunt Erma still hasn’t shown up and people are starting to worry. Strange and mysterious things keep occurring in the town. Eventually the truth is revealed to Susanna.

I’m not sure how Susanna never suspected anything. How did she think the dog was able to get on top of a book shelf? I definitely recommend the book, especially if you are a fan of magic and pies and a bit of romance. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. (Loved the sneak peak of A Slice of Christmas Magic)

Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and the author A.G. Mayes, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.
