This is described as a history book for the 'general reader' rather than history buff and it is exactly that. It is basically, bullet point reading and very easy to follow. The section on Russia is far more detailed than the rest of the book but still leaves some questions as do the other sections.
In essence this is a starting point, a place to decide where to go next on your historical journey. I haven't read anything in this format before but enjoyed it immensely.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review and recommend it for anyone interested in obtaining a basic understanding of what used to be a hidden part of the world or as a starting point to get into world history.
