Description
A grieving young woman learns something new about love from a dominatrix in this haunting and erotic debut.
Echo is a failing actress who prefers to lose herself in the lives of others rather than examine her own. When her father disappears in a seaside misstep, she and her mother are left grief-stricken, unsure of how to piece back together their family that, it turns out, had never been whole. But then Orly -- a dominatrix -- moves in across the street. And through her, Echo begins to find the pieces that will allow her to carry on. Set among the bright colours and harshly glittering lights of Los Angeles, this is a love story about people addled with dreams and expectations who turn to the erotic for answers.
Advance Praise
"Saskia Vogel’s provocative debut novel, Permission, is like a trick box full of sliding panels. Her protagonist, jarred loose from her life by the accidental death of her father, finds that the boundaries she’s always taken as given begin to slide open, revealing secret zones of power and sexuality within the world and within herself. Beautifully written, mysterious and compelling."—Janet Fitch

An insightful, erotic novella that held my attention with its beautiful prose. I've never read anything like it, and fell it love with the main character Echo. It's a haunting book, one I couldn't put down.
Rich, honest and interesting, this book surprised me. The threads of Echo's life weave seamlessly with the emotional lust vs love storyline, focusing on a less physical side of the BDSM/kink community. Wonderfully written and a highly enjoyable "snapshot" of life style novel.
Very well written, interesting, and highly engaging. I was intrigued by the summary and felt like the story was enlightening and hard to put down.
This was a lush, mesmerizing read. Very unique, it held my attention and made me want to know what was on. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys erotic stories.
This book was different than many I had read before. I frequently put it down but always picked it back up later. The book dealt with grief and the BDSM community. This is unlike any book I'd read before and can hang on you a bit. Other than the subject matter it seemed a slow moving book but if you can get into it you're welcomed into seeing Echo's life.
