All crafters revel in finding quick projects and this book is full of them! All 42 of these crochet projects can be completed in less than a day.

The book is well laid out and visually pleasing. Divided into six project sections (Hats & Headbands - 8 projects; Wraps and Other Wearables -12 projects; Bags & Totes -6 projects; Kitchen and Dining - 9 projects; Living -7 projects) and two reference sections (Standard Abbreviations and Yarn and Materials), there is bound to be something that catches your interest. Photos for each of the projects with clear, easy to follow instructions (including size variations where appropriate) make this a winner. It has a photo index of the projects as well, which I think is brilliant and wish all craft books had!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Stackpole Books for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I love craft books with quick projects! Crafters often want to make things for ourselves or others, but we don't always have a ton of time. Sometimes we just need a last minute gift. Here are 42 projects that can be completed in a day and there's a little bit of everything! There are the expected hats and headbands, but also wraps, mitts and other wearable items as well as a few bag/tote projects and items for the home. I love that the book includes a visual index. In my opinion, every craft books needs an index like this! Thumbnail photos allow the crafter to quickly find the project they want to make without needing to flip through the whole book. I love the Dreamy Poncho - perfect for a cool Spring day. I also love the simplicity of the Hexagon Centerpiece and Book Market Tote. Multiple photos are included for each project to show details and the colors chosen for the sample projects are appealing. Would I personally be able to complete all of these projects in only one day? Some yes, others likely not... but I'm a slower crocheter. Even as a slow crocheter, I think even I could complete the majority of these projects in just a day. Overall, this is a nice collection of projects utilizing a variety of crochet stitches resulting in a range of textures.

Thank you to Rowman & Littlefield and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love to crochet and this book had a few projects that sparked my interest. Not all of them were as modern as I’d hoped and were a bit redundant from what’s already on the market. It has easy to follow directions and a few cute ideas, so I’m grateful to have gotten this book from NetGalley.

Small collection of quick projects - includes patterns for hats, scarves, hand warmers, bags and decorative items. I like the index in the back that has photos of the pattern, so you can quickly find the project you need.

Lots of new ideas for quick and easy crochet projects – hats and headbands, phone or tablet covers, coffee cozies, baskets, bags and totes. There’s even cute patterns for the proverbial dish rags and placemats. I especially liked the home decorating projects; after the winter hat-making season, it’s fun to crochet something new and different.

This is a great reference and how to book for those who love to crochet! I am an avid crocheter and love to make gifts for friends and family and anyone who will accept my crocheted creations. I really loved the ideas I got from this book and enjoyed looking through all of the plans. The plans look solid and I am excited to spend the rest of my winter crocheting (when my kids will let me at least). I find it to be a great stress reliever (totally necessary when at home with 3 kids that are not school aged yet) and it doesn't have as many calories as chocolate!!

From hats to tablet cases to decor creations, this book has plenty of beautiful plans to keep you busy!

Crochet in a Day is a pattern book. There are no lessons for crocheting. There are wonderful patterns here for wearables, storage, home, decorating and so much more. The photos are good but could be more enlarged to show the item. The directions seem to be correct although I did not try all of the patterns for accuracy. If you are looking for some vintage as well as new inspiration this book fits the bill.

I would like to thank the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was way more fun than I thought it would be and 1000 times easier! I did have to YouTube a few of the stitches, however that came from lack of experience and not lack of explanation. I do wish there were more pictures included, but I was able to complete a few of the projects as a beginner. Baca, Pink, and Truman have made a crocheter out of me! Thanks ladies for this awesome instructional book!

As a crocheter, I love looking at new books and following designers. Selena Baca is one of the designers I follow, and I was thrilled when I saw she has a new book coming. Her patterns are amazing, easy to follow and always come out spectacular. This book does ot disappoint with the variety of patterns, and the instructions are clear as always. I look forward to this book on our shelves to recommend to my customers.

Three talented crochet crafters got together to create this wonderful pattern book of things that can be made in a day. The book includes hats, scarves, headbands, cup cozies, potholders, bags, totes, pillows, wall hangings and much more. Each pattern is outlined with the materials and equipment needed with step by step instructions to complete each project. All projects are wonderfully photographed and presented from different aspects and some with different yarn and color choices. This is an excellent resource for quick projects for yourself or to give as gifts. There are the abbreviation notations, yarn and materials resources and a visual index of all the projects.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! Initially I thought this book was learning to crochet in a day, so imagine my surprise when I found this lovely resource chock full of great quick projects to finish in a few days time. I can relate to one of the authors saying they have "one sock syndrome..." You finally finish one and then you want to move on. This book is great for anyone who wants a quick and easy crochet project. They use a variety of easy to find yarns for samples, and mostly in worsted or bulky weight. Most patterns are rated "intermediate" but I did notice several easy patterns, as well.

The patterns are well written and so cute! With this one book, you get patterns for everything from hats and scarves to bags and home décor! I am so glad to have found this book and can't wait to get something on my hook.! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys crochet and is looking for an easy and quick project or a gift.

Thanks to #NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is a really neat book full of fun and less time consuming projects from beginner to more! I will definitely be getting this for my library!

Very cute book of basic patterns! I requested this one for my mom to look over - she's a crocheter - and she gives it her full stamp of approval. She's especially interested in the Alaskan Dusk hat, and I'm going to try the Blackberry Coffee Cozy as my first ever crochet project!

Crochet in a Day is a great addition to my library. There are plenty of projects for different skill levels. I can’t wait to start.

Great projects. Great ideas. I am not up to the caliber of this book but it gives me a goal to reach.

Great, quick patterns. What I really like is the use of affordable and accessible yarns. Ideal book for those who want to make simple and low cost homemade items.

A nice compilation of quick and somewhat simple projects for those of us who love to make things, but don't want to invest tons of time into a project. Many of the projects are similar to other things that are out and available elsewhere, but putting them together in one book of quick projects makes this an appealing read. I did not try any of the projects, but I did look at the patterns and they appear to be straightforward and easy to follow. I hope to try a few of them soon.

This is a good one! I like the pictures they clearly show what each project is. Instructions are clear and easy to read and follow.

I've been wanting to give crocheting a try for awhile now so when I saw this book I knew I had to get it. "Crochet in a Day" is full of different crochet projects that you can finish in a single day. Everything from hats to placemats, blankets to baskets. With beautiful pictures of each project, and easy to follow instructions. I know I'm going to be crocheting up a storm in no time!

Crochet in a Day is a great pattern book with a lot of cute items to create. There are something for everyone in this book. But it's not a book to show you how to crochet, so you will need to know how to read a pattern before you get this book.
The designers in this book have wrote clear patterns that are easy to understand. And the items are cute. A couple of the designers, I've used their patterns before.
So if you are looking for cute items you can create in a day, this is the pattern book for that.

Crochet In A day is full of great small crochet projects. I don’t crochet a ton however there are several items in here that seem like I could make them at a beginner level. There are also some unique designs in here, I particularly love the pennant flags! So cute and would be really versatile. This book would also make a great gift for a friend that likes to crochet, throw in a ball of yarn and you’d be set!

First- if you're looking for a book that will show you how to do the stitches, techniques, and all of that, well, this book doesn't do that. Instead, the authors refer the reader to the American Crochet Association on youtube, because, in their words, "Some crochet stitches and techniques are best learned with a video instead of written definitions and text alone." While I do agree with them, it would've been nice to also have the text and photo options in the book. Also, be aware that the projects are geared to a more experienced crocheter- of 42 projects, 12 are listed as easy, the rest intermediate. This isn't a bad thing, just letting you know what you're getting.
The projects are really cute, quick, and fun, totally usable (by which I mean, not useless crap), and very giftable. I really like the Nebula Pillow- so cute! Crocheted dishcloths are great to use, as are crocheted coasters- I still use the ones my mom made me years ago! So many sweet, cozy hats, and I love the poncho and fringe vest. A good book for any crocheter looking for some instant gratification projects!

I love this book! I have found so many project ideas and am having trouble picking just one! Off to go buy more yarn!!

This book is just as described in the description. Easy quick patterns for a novice crocheter. This is a book for a beginner. The instructions are very clear and concise. The pictures are clear and well done.

I did not try any of these patterns for correctness, but as an experienced crocheter, they all seemed possible and fun to do in a day. The patterns are for items that would make great homemade gifts for the occasion when one was called for.

Crochet in a Day is a wonderful new addition to the crochet library. The projects and designs vary from wearables like wraps and ponchos to quick small projects like boot cuffs, socks and fingerless mitts. Directions are clear and concise, and pictures of projects are appealing. I was excited to see the inclusion of Tunisian crochet, and I would probably craft the Toasty Tunisian Head Wrap and the Sprightly Boot Cuffs first.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Stackpole Books and Netgalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I've made Slightly Slipper Socks, Fine Wine Tote, and several Harbor Placemats. I love these quick crochet patterns, easy to follow directions and a great selection of projects for Christmas or any time of the year! This is a great book for an intermediate or advanced crocheter. I will be giving it as gifts to several of my crochet friends and making several items for gifts!

I am a beginner crochet person, having only began a two weeks ago. I was looking at this book hoping it would have quick and easy projects for a beginner like me. This is an awesome book, but it should be known that it is not exactly for a beginner. This is a pattern book, not a book that gives lots of easy instruction on how-to. This book assumes that you already know the how-to, and then gives cute and easy projects to make in less than a day. This will be more of a benefit when I learn the skill more, but for now I am not as able to use it. If you are already on your way with crochet, I would highly recommend this for your collection. For those who cannot wait for a month or so for a project to end, this is handy to get something started and finished quickly. Recommended for an experienced crochet person, not a true beginner.

Crochet used to be the craft of grandma's. Today's crochet is a whole lot different. This book of quick to finish projects is excellent for working between those larger projects. The patterns are easy to read and follow. All popular projects, my crochet group has tried all of the patterns and found them excellent.

Fun projects to get inspired.
The instructions are a bit hard to follow for beginners, but workable.
Nice images and details.

I have crocheted for years but I much prefer knits, typically. I will say, though, that I was very pleasantly surprised so many patterns in this book had sort of a knit appearance and were more light in nature. The projects are fairly simple, for the most part. I taught myself to crochet with YouTube and I can follow these patterns. My favorite are a couple of the slouchy hats. I don’t know if I can pull them off but they look cute! I received an eARC via Netgalley but my opinions are my own.

I love and am familiar with the authors' work. Crochet in a Day contains both easy and intermediate patterns for accessories, home, and more. The book has clear, bright pictures of the finished products. They use simple patterns that can easily be made in a short period of time, and they look more sophisticated than the patterns actually are.

This book has quick, easy to follow, patterns, that are easily created in a day. Just as the title suggests. It comes with instructions and helpful information about choosing the the proper wool, and proper crochet hooks. I am having a wonderful time making kitchen cloths. The pattern is so easy to follow, and wonderful for using up the spare yarn I have laying about. Perfect for those wanting to creating something in a day. Instant crocheting gratification.

This book has the patterns for fun things that can be crocheted in just one day…hats, scarfs, mittens, shawls and more. The instructions are easy to read and follow. The items are gathered in five categories: Hats and Headbands; Wraps and other Wearables; Bags and Totes; Kitchen and Dining; and Living.

This is an awesome book for quick projects. It has a variety of patterns instead of the same old hats and mittens. It is definitely one that should be in all crocheters library.

I received an ARC from Rowman and Littlefield through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book.

Crochet in a Day
by Salena Baca; Danyel Pink and Emily Truman

This crochet book is written for a person who already knows the basics stitches. If help is needed for some of the stitches the reference they provided is a YouTube site that teaches you how to do more. The patterns in this book are for basic and intermediate skills. Each pattern has a photo and instructions to complete. In the back of the book is the abbreviation chart if you need a refresher on what that stitch is. I found several projects that I will be making. If your looking for a project that you can make in a short amount of time, this book is perfect.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Crochet in a Day is a new project tutorial guide collection from Salena Baca, Danyel Pink, and Emily Truman. Due out 1st April 2019 from Rowman & Littlefield on their Stackpole imprint, it's 152 pages and available in ebook and paperback formats.

I generally have a few really long-term projects going at any one time. The one thing which helps me stay on target with those long and intricate projects is having a short 'instant gratification' project now and then to break up the long stretches. This book is packed with more than 40 short projects which can be made quickly. The projects are varied and attractive.

This is not a how-to-crochet book. There are no stitch diagrams or explanations (though the authors do refer beginners to the American Crochet Association's youtube channel for video instruction). The lack of beginning instruction doesn't detract from the book at all, the information can be found easily online if it's needed. What this book does have is lots and lots of projects.

The projects are arranged in chapters of similar projects: hats, accessories, totes, kitchen things, decorative items, etc. The yarns and materials used are easily sourced (mostly slanted to readers in the USA, but available worldwide with online retailers).

It would have been nice if the book had included a gallery of included projects with the table of contents, however, there is an visual gallery index at the back of the book with page numbers which is basically the same thing. There's also a one-page resource list and abbreviations list. The project instructions are written in standard abbreviations, but don't include the 'Japanese' crochet diagrams. I made the Windsor dishcloth (p. 112 and found it problem free and attractive).

Four stars. Worthwhile addition to the crafter's library.

This book contains 42 projects that the authors say can be done in a day, with most being able to be done in a few hours. As you might imagine, open lacework and big hooks help many of the projects meet this goal, but you might be surprised at some of the articles use dense crochet and even small hooks.

The book is divided into several sections including Hats and Headbands, Wraps and Other Wearables, Bags and Totes, Kitchen and Dining, and Living. In the Wraps section, you’ll find a shawl, cowls, a poncho, a wrap, mitts, and slippers; even boot cuffs are included. The Bags and Totes chapter even has a coin purse and a phone or tablet cozy. In the Kitchen and Dining section, there are a couple of dishcloths, a trivet, a potholder, and other items. The Living section is perhaps the most creative of all. Want to make a crocheted dreamcatcher or mimic old-school macrame? There are patterns for those as well as other interesting ideas. Some of the patterns are a surprise, like the hat that can convert into a cowl. The very simple Dreamy Poncho could be outstanding in the right yarn.

The book does an excellent job of photographing the items. Not only do we see the item from a variety of angles, but there's almost always a close-up on the stitches themselves. What a refreshing change from the many knitting and crochet books that seem to focus more on the model and the setting than on the item itself. The book also gives useful information about the yarns used, including fiber makeup, yarn size by number, and yardage, which would allow for easy substitutions. While this has nothing to do with the quality of the patterns or the book, I appreciated that the publisher used a middle-aged woman to model some of the wearables.

The only thing missing from the book was a section that gave the basics of crochet. I am accustomed to crochet books that have a section either before or after the patterns that show how to do simple stitches. The authors do suggest in the introduction that readers should view videos on a couple of different websites to see how stitches are done. As there are several patterns at a beginner level, it would be nice if the book had at least the rudiments of chaining and simple stitches so that a newer crocheter could simply refresh her memory by looking at drawings, rather than have to fire up a browser.

That said, this book is a fun and eclectic mix of projects that will inspire crocheters to break out their hooks and look in their stashes to give some a try.

Many years ago, my grandmother taught me to crochet. I don't get a chance to do it very often so when I do, I prefer to have short projects. The designs in this book are right up my alley! These projects should only take about a day, or perhaps a weekend if you're a bit slow (I get distracted easily). Really fun designs that give you a wonderful sense of accomplishment when you can complete them quickly. And if you're a beginner like me or just need a refresher course, it's a great idea to take a peek at some YouTube videos that show basic techniques.

I am always looking for projects to do in one day. Love the selections presented in this book. I will be doing a few of these soon.

I have been crocheting and creating since about 2003 when I learned at a college resident hall event. Over the last few years I've gained a new mastery in reading patterns and am about to embark on designing my own patterns. I wanted to look at this book to see how crochet books compare to blog posts, Instagram, Ravelry patterns, and Facebook groups.

The patterns written in this book are high quality. They have been written with a high level of clarity, which is VERY important when providing ONLY written instructions. The photos provided where my biggest complaint in this book. They did not live up to the visual medium that is Instagram; if you are going to publish a book, gorgeous photos are a MUST! The thing I felt was missing the most with photos were pattern details, like showing a button hole, seam work, or tricky construction details. The photos provided across patterns were not consistent as some gave close up of stitch work and others were oddly cropped pictures of the item. Blocking was also needed in several of the designs to really make the quality of the product pop.

The patterns in this book are not all new. Many of them have been previously published in magazines or on Ravelry.

Overall this book would be an excellent for an intermediate crocheter who already loves the designs of any of these designers. I did enjoy that there was a Tunisian design included and would have loved to see at least one in each section next time. I did not see any "must have" patterns in this book. From this book I did gain three new designers to follow on Instagram and if they design something I must have I definitely won't miss out! The quality of the pattern writing all three designers have shown in this book will reduce any hesitation I have on buying one of their patterns.

This book is everything the name and cover imply: 42 fast and fun projects that can be crocheted in under a day. For the majority of the patterns, even a slightly more advanced beginner would be able to complete them that quickly. There is a variety of pattern types, from clothes to hats to household, etc. A big thing to know in advance is that every pattern is written out but not charted out (I know some people can only read one or the other).

With this book, you can crochet everything from a flower hat to a phone cover. Instructions for each project include difficulty ratings and suggested yarns. Directions seem easy to follow (I'm a knitter, not a crocheter, but reading patterns is similar, and these seem fairly straightforward).

This is a good gift book for the newer beginning crochet crafter. It has 42 projects that are generally available. The pictures are colorful and clear, the instructions are simple and well explained and the book is organized and easy to use. The visual index at the end of the book is particularly useful. Many of the projects use 1 skein or less for the projects. The patterns cover many areas from hats, scarves, place mats etc. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Crochet in a day is a collection of various patterns. Most appear to be intermediate patterns. Some of them are really cute and I will give them a try. There is a very nice balance of photos and instructions which is very important when giving a crochet pattern.

A simple book filled with quick easy designs. As a crocheter, I love one day projects. Sometimes I don’t have patience for longer one. All of these projects are simple and straightforward, perfect for beginners or more advanced just looking for something quick. Not to mention, there is a wide variety of project beyond just the typical hats.

Crochet in a Day by Salena Baca, Danyel Pink, and Emily Truman features 42 crochet projects. The projects are divided into themes. While there are many great projects, my favorite is the puffy dishcloth. All of the sections have several projects that would be great to make for yourself or gifts. The patterns have clear instructions and prominently displayed yarn weight. I prefer crochet books that give a yarn weight along with a suggested brand. It makes it easy for me to substitute with what I have on hand or can easily purchase. Another bonus for me is the visual index at the end of the book. I can see myself turning to this book over and over when I need a quick project!
