Description

The explosive new thriller from No.1 global bestseller.

Michelle felt her mouth drop open.

A van slid to a stop beside her daughter.

The side door rolled open.

A man jumped out.

Michelle gripped her keys. She bolted into a full-out run, cutting the distance between herself and her daughter. She started to scream, but it was too late.

Ashley had run off, just like they had taught her to do. Which was fine, because the man did not want Ashley.

He wanted Michelle.

A novel relevant to our times. People like this really exist in our world today, which is really sad to say. A fantastic story with a gripping realistic theme. Don’t miss this one. Ms Slaughter at her best!

I’m a big fan of Karin Slaughter so when I received this review copy of her new book via NetGalley I dived into it straight away and to be honest, it was so good I couldn’t bear to put it down till I got to the end. In fact if I hadn’t had to eat and sleep I would have finished it quicker!
This book is another in the series featuring Doctor Sara Linton and Georgia Bureau Investigator, Will Trent, characters I was pleased to be reunited with as I’d read all the earlier books about them.
In this one Sara and Will get sucked into a white supremacist terrorist plot. A young mother is kidnapped and disappears for a month despite being the target of a massive investigation. But why are the FBI so tight lipped about the case?
Then Sara is kidnapped by a terrorist group and ends up in a white supremacist camp in the woods. Will is forced to go undercover and risks his life to find her.
This book starts slowly but soon the tension ratchets up as Sara is thrust into an extremely frightening situation.
We learn more about Sara and Will’s relationship, his insecurities and difficulties expressing his feelings after his awful childhood. This side of the book definitely drew me in and had me desperately hoping they would find a way to formalise their relationship.
The neo Nazi terrorists were menacing and all too believable after all the atrocities that have happened both in USA and around the world in recent times.
The author has done her research well and the twisted ideas these people use to inspire their followers is realistically portrayed.
This was a hold your breath until the end sort of book. Karin Slaughter has excelled herself and I highly recommend. I just hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next book in the series as these characters are like old friends and I’m keen to find out what will happen to them in the future.

I have read a few Karin Slaughter's books and hoped this one would be a good one. Yes it was.. She has gotten under the skin of the white supremists with this book and cleverly showed his warped view of the world, whilst correcting him in her head. Well written and descriptive book, written with humour, horror and love. It keeps you awake at night because you cannot put it down and keeps you on the edge of your seat through out.

This was a gripping, fast paced story that grabbed hold hard and didn’t let go until I had finished the epilogue.
The characters were all really well written, especially Sara and Will, I was at various times worried, frustrated, saddened and intrigued, my emotions were really put through the wringer while I was trying to put the pieces together alongside the characters. This was an uncomfortable read at times, but I couldn’t put it down.
I especially loved the epilogue, I adored both Will and Sara and was so glad that they both made it through to be together.

The Last Widow
Author: Karin Slaughter
Publishers: HarperCollins

The Sara Linton/Will Trent books have been one of my favourite series of the past few years. This one did not disappoint. Covering relevant and contemporary themes including domestic terrorism, racism and paedophilia this is a tense thrilling read and came to a very satisfactory conclusion. I would highly recommend it.

Many thanks to the author, publishers and netgalley for providing me with this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Karin Slaughter has done it again. This was another great read which I raced through with relish. A deeply disturbing book which keeps you desperate to know the end result . What more can you want from a good read?
