Emmeline Pankhurst

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known people for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
This little book talks about the the suffragettes and their fight to get the vote for women and also other rights that were previously denied to them. I would have loved to read something like this as a child and I'm glad that today it is possible to do so. Also, I really liked the illustrations in this one.

This is the second book that I've read from Lisbeth Kaiser's Little People, Big Dreams series. I never knew who Emmeline Pankhurst is, but because of this book, I learned a lot from this amazing and one of the notable women during the early 20th century in England. I commend everyone behind the publication of this book series because they are both informative and inspirational not only to the young readers but also to adult readers.

This board book is part of a series that is an offshoot of the Little People, Big Dreams books which are written for slightly older children.

As they hear this story, young listeners will get a beginning understanding of British women's fight for their rights, especially the right to vote. Children will learn that, as a young girl, Emmeline realized that boys had opportunities that she lacked. They will find out that she decided to do something about this and became a fervent supporter of women's suffrage.

Here is Emmeline's story and that of her family. It is told in a simple straightforward manner. The illustrations that accompany the text are bright, bold and appealing as they complement the written narrative.

I am constantly marveled at the consistent and divine pleasure of these annotated biographies with amazing illustrations. This is another gem in the "Little People, Big World" series!

I couldn’t think of a better person to be given a ’my first...’ edition. Central to British history and politics, Pankhurst’s journey is something every little one should know. It will inspire all who read and makes for a wonderful foundation to the original edition.

Every book in this series is a pleasure, this time a great feminist hero. Suffragette Emmekine is a great way to introduce children to discussions about equality and great historical women. I love this series and it’s wonderful that children’s literature teaches about all these important figures and wish we had them when I was young

I have bought several of the 'Little People, Big Dreams' book series for the school library and would encourage others to do so too. They offer an insight into the lives of people who genuinely made a difference for a variety of reasons. I find the texts engaging and the visual style is perfect to hold the readers interest. The Emmeline Pankhurst text will be easily accessed by a wide age range of students. Alone, I found it to be a little scant on detail for my upper primary class but it will be an excellent introduction to her life and will prompt more indepth discussion about her beliefs and achievements. I'll be adding several copies to our school library.

Very cute illustrations and appropriate for the age group, I would recommend this title to preschool age providers and parents who are in search of material about women rights, suffragettes, and British Victorian history.

Emmeline Pankhurst was born in England to a family that helped other people. She wanted to go to college or get a job, but her parents wouldn't let her. Instead, she fought to help women get the vote and the change the way things were.

I liked the illustrations by Ana Sanfelippo in this book. The colors are bright enough without detracting from the story. The story itself is simple enough for the young to understand. I continue to be impressed by this series.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.

This one is about Emmeline, a woman who fought all her life for giving women the same opportunities men had. She was very strong and she never gave up!

When I was little, my mother said: 'You MUSTalways vote, women DIED for your right to vote'. Only later did I find out about who these great women were who fought for the rights we often take for granted.
This is my second book of the series 'Little people, big dreams' and I found it both inspiring and engaging. The story of Emmeline Pankhurst's life is told in simple sentences, so it can be read to very young children. I also loved the artwork in this book. The page which tells the young reader about the time when Emmeline lost her husband is black which I felt perfectly renders her feelings of grief and sorrow.
There must be thousands of books written about Emmeline Pankhurst, but I believe it is never too early to learn about this amazing woman whose hard work and courage changed the way whole societies operate.

My First Emmeline Pankhurst is a simplified version of the Emmeline Pankhurst book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. This series of young reader books provides short illustrated biographies for famous people around the world from current and past history. They're all really well done and I've enjoyed (and recommended) all I've reviewed on my blog.

Worth noting: There are two versions of this book. The young reader version was released in 2017. This boardbook edition has much more simplified text and was released 5th Feb 2019. The entire series is published by Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint.

The art by Ana Sanfelippo is appealingly naive and simple and supports and illustrates the story very well. I'm impressed with Quarto's expertise in finding and presenting the artists of this series to a new audience.

Really well done series and this entry is a worthy addition.

Would make a superlative reading circle selection for classroom, library read-along, bedtime story, or similar. I personally recommend the entire series as good choices for school/classroom libraries.

I actually didn't know anything about Emmeline Pankhurst (or even who she was) prior to reading this children's book. It was informative- I thought it was the perfect amount of detail about women's suffrage for a child- and the drawings went well with the information.

These books are great for inspiring young minds to become who they are meant to be. Emmeline Pankhurst shows young girls that the sky is the limit and women can do anything men can do.

A more familiar story for me growing up in the UK.
Emmeline Pankhurst did a great deal for women's sufferage and poorer families in industrial towns and cities. Born at a time when girls became wives first and mothers second she was inspired as a child and through her marriage to live and act differently.
As she was moved, this series, Little People, BIG DREAMS hopes that the young children listening to these stories will be equally aware of their own potential, to dream dreams and realise their potential.
so a basic biography with intriguing illustrations for further questions and simple sentences pitches in with the start of understanding our world and your place init for children to learn and embrace.
I have vague memories of David Livingstone and Elishabeth Fry from my early reading and being read to by adults. Parents and carers should welcome books that lift ones eyes beyond the nursery.
Recent centenary of right to vote for women and part of the strength of the City in the aftermath of the Manchester bombing at an Ariana Grande concert, Emmeline Pankhurst should be a more familiar figure; as a women she should be remembered and known to all our children.

I thought this book did a really, really good job of getting the essence of Pankhurst's story across in a board book. It was simple enough for kids to understand, but did really tell her story.

Emmeline Pankhurst was an amazing woman!! She fought gender norms for her time to help woman gain voting rights. The illustrations are gorgeous and engaging.

Nostalgic ~ Age-Appropriate ~ Enjoyable

tl;dr: Women who make change are the best.

I love the idea of telling the youngest readers about a woman who changed their lives, long before they were born. This well-written book tells the story of Pankhurst, the suffragette. I like that this book is about a woman who isn't a household name, but should be. The illustrations are very nice, having a sort of vintage feel.

I had never heard of Emmeline Pankhurst and this book made me so interested in learning more about her. Any story that begin with a child loving reading is a winner for me. I love the pictures and they tell a great story of woman leadership and empowerment.

I've read 4 books of the Little People, Big Dreams series, and since they're very similar (thus I can only say the same things about them), I've reviewed them together:
These are exactly the books I would love to dive in with my kid (once I'll have one)! They're very short, with very simple and short text - well, they're picture books. It's definitely suitable for only very little kids, toddlers. In themselves, at least. I can imagine telling a more detailed story about Hawking, Parks, Fitzgerald, Pankhurst, or any other hero of these books to a bit older child - I think when an adult reads it with them, adds things, and it's possible to discuss, than it could be quite enjoyable for even 5-6 year-olds. I find it very important to give role models to kids, ones who'd done something in their lives worth mentioning, especially in this age when all these celebrities and influencers are thrown at us who have never done anything useful that would earn them respect. These little board books (I've downloaded like 4) give help with that from a very early age, and that's wonderful!

A beautiful book that I read just in time for International Women's Day. A gorgeous illustrated book telling the story of a giant of the women's movement and what drew her to that path. perfect for the little lady in your life.

I really like the Little People, Big Dreams series. This offering does not disappoint. This is the story of Emmeline Pankhurst from her childhood in Manchester, England to her becoming a founder and hero of the Women's Rights Movement. I enjoy reading about the childhood of these brave, talented dreamers and how it inspired them to do what they did in adulthood. We learn about what Emmeline had to deal with including prison in her journey. This is a child friendly biography with delightful illustrations. It is a story that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it is important to have a dream and strive to achieve it. It is also a great choice for Women's History Month. I love the end pages in this series that gives a timeline, pertinent information and resources etc. These books are a must for public and school libraries.

I adore these books, and I love how well the writing and the illustrations go together. Together they tell the story of a famous person’s life, and what they overcame to reach their goals and dreams.

In this book, we hear about suffragists and the fight for women’s rights. It is perfect to open up the conversation about rights and oppression, and I feel like a lot of children can benefit from knowing this story!

I love this series, it's always a joy to read about someone who I may a lot, a bit or nothing at all. The art style is pleasing to look at, these are books would be a great addition to many elementary classrooms.

This is a delightful book for young readers. The illustrations are lovely. My daughters loved this book and we highly recommend it.
