Sounds like they were headed for divorce.

I can't imagine going five years without talking to my siblings.

Er, why did she marry Billy? Cole was wonderful!

Aw, Greta is nice. It;s not her fault she got wrong information and blabbed. A baby is a good thing.

Oh, come on, Cole. Do this by-the-book.

Who else thinks Billy got snipped without telling his wife?

Billy and his mother were so Oedipus.

Nice bouquets. I'm glad that this shotgun wedding has some class.

I'd just take out a ad in the paper saying that Cole is the father, and call it good.

Billy was probably spending their money on his sluts.

So much desperation sex.

She finally told the truth, better late than never.

Thank goodness Ella wised up.

Oy! What an emotional journey. I wished Billy wasn’t dead so Cole couldn’t have beaten the crap out of him. Mia was the worst too.

Other than that it was a sweet friend’s to lovers with the baby twist and the fact that the hero was the brother of Lauren’s cheating ex.

There were some pretty hilarious lines. I wish there was more of that. Over all, nice heartwarming story. I’d be interested in reading more from this world.

Lauren watched her husband Billy be buried. She felt she could pretend for a few more minutes. She felt they knew nothing about Billy. But for the last five years she had been lying to them. There were so many things she wished she could forget. Lauren wished she could feel grief at Billy’s death. She had been married to him for five years and had known him a long time before that. But all she felt was guilt from the last conversation and anger that made her want to beat her fists on the wall. A car crash had taken Billy’s life and there had been another woman in the car. Billy had played hockey but never made it to the major league, he had the talent just not the work ethic or right attitude. Billy had refused to deal with reality.Billy would do whatever he wanted purely for fun and would charm away any objections or anger. Lauren was often lead to believe she was the one in the wrong, the one being unreasonable. She was angry as she wondered why Billy had done this to them, thrown her love back in her face. After the funeral at her parents home Lauren had to figure out where she went from there. Charlotte was Lauren’s older sister and the person she trusted the most but Lauren couldn’t even tell her what Billy had really been like.People started to come to the house with casseroles as well as condolences. She had heard enough and said she needed some alone time as she left her parents house. Guilt and anger were so tangled with love and betrayal Lauren didn’t know what to feel or think. She wondered how she could love Billy and hate him at the same time. Billy had cheated on her and lied and hurt Lauren. The last time she had seen Billy alive she told him the marriage was over and she never wanted to see him again. She wondered if Billy would still be alive if they had never had that conversation. Lauren went to their old secret place and found Cole- Billy’s brother- there. They talked about when they were kids together . Lauren let out a sob and they tears than fell, Cole took her into his arms. Lauren felt wonderful being hugged, to be touched again, it had been so long...Cole was a good friend. He’d always been there whenever she needed him and there he was again. Cole and lauren reached for each other and he kissed her. It had been so long since anyone wanted her. Only her. Than they ended up having sex. For the first time in a very long time Lauren felt cherished, important, and loved. Lauren later hated herself and figured Cole hate dher also. What woman made love to her brother in law on the day of his brothers funeral. Than lauren found out she was pregnant by Cole. She had wanted a baby for so long but after two miscarriages she had given up. She knew she had to tell Cole and then her family she was pregnant. Lauren now worked at Homestead Restaurant, she had been the last three months. Everyone assumed the baby was Billy’s but Lauren had told Cole the truth. They decided to marry for the baby's’ sake as Cole wanted to be in his child’s life. Cole noe Lauren let each other know how they are feeling.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the small town feel as I grew up in a small town. Even though it wasn’t right that lauren and Cole slept together when they did I understood it after all Lauren told Billy they were through. I felt bad for Cole the way his mother favored Billy and let him know he would always be second best what a cruel woman. I did find it hard that after miscarriages and then not getting pregnant again, one time with Cole and during a very emotional time and she is not only pregnant but carried the baby and was out of the dangerous time for her. But that really didn’t hurt this book for me at all just a minor annoyance. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Child of Mine by Jana Richards is the first book in her Masonville Series. Child of Mine is a standalone and has no cliffhanger.
We meet Lauren Walsh on the day she buries her husband. Both were living a lie, but that doesn't matter anymore. What matters is that she has a encounter with her brother-in-law, Cole.
Cole is a good guy. He's secretly in love with Lauren for a long time. He wished she would have picked him, but no. But now is his chance, or?
Child of Mine is a sweet second chance story with a few twists and turns that I never had expected.
The writing is great and I liked the story and the characters. 4,5 sweet stars.

Child of Mine
by Jana Richards

Child of Mine is a complex Love story. Her husband Billy, he didn’t love her. She had at one time loved him. His brother Cole, has always been in love with Lauren. She loves his brother, but it’s a platonic love.

After enduring a loveless 5 year marriage, Lauren’s buries her husband with no guilt or tears. Later that evening she and Cole happen to share a few moments of bliss. Which brings about the story line of this book. Lauren is pregnant with Coles baby, but everyone assumes the baby is Billy’s. This fatal lie, almost damage the friendship between Cole and Lauren.

When the two neglect to actually talk to each other, and admit to truths, can they become a family. Read their story how these two overcome the lies to each other and themselves. I enjoyed the story, but was frustrated after awhile with their inability to be adults.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lauren has just buried her husband... and she’s not really mourning him... Cole is her brother-in-law... she’s pregnant... after making love with Cole once... but she pretends the baby is her deceased husband’s...

Doesn’t that just grab your attention?!?!

I enjoyed this book and hope Lauren’s sister and brother get there own stories. I’m guessing since this is book 1 they might. This is my first book by this author. I do recommend it.

In “Child of Mine”, by Jana Richards, a peculiar encounter in a rather difficult context leads the romantic couple to a tangled mess of emotions and lies, in a web of personal and familial ramifications.
I found this an interesting, unusual premise and I liked the realistic depiction of the conflicting emotions and fears Cole and Lauren go through.
I empathized with both main characters and understood their dilemmas. I loved Cole, the quiet, honorable, generous, kind hero. His affection for Lauren and the way he cherishes her is amazing (and I really love the unrequited, secret love trope in which the hero is the sufferer).
Cole’s job as veterinarian is an important part of the plot and I enjoyed the insight into his professional routines.
On the not-so-bright side, I felt that Cole and Lauren spent too much time tiptoeing around each other and I could live without the heavy sex, since it wasn’t that kind of story in the beginning and it seemed unnecessary.

After being in a little slump, I found that this book was just what I needed.

I definitely found myself not being able to put this down once I started reading it so it definitely did it’s job.

With this being a contemporary story, it was okay enough. I really wished the main character would’ve addressed the whole baby daddy issue. It could’ve save a lot of time and heartache if you want to call it that. I mean who am I to judge? But seriously it truly frustrated me.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this.

I absolutely loved the telling of this story. Throughout my reading I connected with Lauren on a deep level and when I was painting the story in my mind I was her. My life story is completely unrelated to Lauren’s, but that is how great Jana Richards did with book. I could not put this book down at all and ended up reading it in one day.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed above are solely those of my own.

From the blurb, this book sounded interesting and it lived up to the expectations.
It was an emotional story and the two main characters were always tiptoeing around each other. Perhaps, there would have been more depth to things if they had faced the situation head-on. Also, I was disappointed in Lauren having to fib about her life while being married to Billy. And I was also disappointed with her family who knew something was wrong but did not even bother to ask. Why?
This is not the book that wants the reader to ask such questions for it does not provide the answers. It is just a "alls well that ends well" sorta book. Not too heavy, but a good read for the weekend.

This was an emotional story, which I really enjoyed. I loved the characters and the situation could have been real. I had to keep reading to find out what happened at the end . Recommend book to be read.

Child of Mine is an endearing story of redemption and second chance love. The characters are well developed and the story is well written. The plot is interesting and held my interest from the first page to the last. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Lauren was in a miserable marriage to Billy. On the day Lauren buries Billy, she sleeps with his brother Cole & ends up pregnant, something she is not very sorry about. Lauren & Cole marry to avoid a scandal, but can their love be real or is it just a show?

This was a great book. I enjoyed reading it!
