Tearing of The Veil

A totally adventurous and fantasy filled book with unexpected twists and awesome characters. The magic and the fae folk are so enthralling to read.

I enjoyed the book, although I found it a little ling winded at times. As the start of a series, it would be perfect, with the necessary depth added to the various characters, however as a standalone book there is a bit too much detail. 
All that said, the plot is good, well thought out and with an extremely unexpected twist toward the end. The characters are interesting and the interaction between them feels natural, with all the complications you would expect from vastly different personalities and perspectives.
A satisfying read, with plenty of myth and magic. I am hopeful that this book is in fact the beginning of a new fantasy series

Somehow the veil that protected the land has been torn and now monsters are entering the world and killing all they meet.  The King of the Fae calls on various creatures to form a group to fix the problem.   They agree and head out.  They have no idea what caused the problem, but they intend to find out.

This is a very difficult task with danger around every corner.  They meet many monsters along the way and the further they go, there are less of  them of them in the group as the monsters take their toll.  There is no time to grieve, they have to keep searching.

When there is almost no hope left, they find out what caused the tear.  As the champions head for the tear, they know more may die but no one gives up.

I felt bad for the ones that died.  They might have been cantankerous or a bit nasty but they were all part of the team and they all had skills.  They weren't family and they weren't even friends but they were missed anyway.

This story is action packed and full of surprises all the way through.  It will keep you reading!

If you like sci fi/fantasy, you'll love this tale.

This book was actually much better than expected. It starts out as a quest of a group of unlikely Fae characters that have been picked by the King to preserve a little less than a dozen artifacts after a disaster that has ripped the veil of the worlds. The worst of the unseelie [malignant] Fae have attacked and are slaughtering the seelie [beneficial] Fae in a manner not seen for centuries with the added help of an incredibly strong negative force. Anyone of Celtic heritage raised on stories has heard the old tales along with many modern people that have researched them, pagans in particular. The veil that separated the Fae from mortals and the other one that separates from the dead and darker entities usually known as demons. Two periods it thins to the most transparent: at Beltane [in spring at the beginning of May, and the Celtic new year Samhain, now called Hallows Eve when it is at the very most transparent and you can talk to the dead or ride with the Fae or both. That is the 31st of Oct to Nov 1. Oddly or not that is the time in multiple cultures that weren't known to each other to feel the presence of the ancestors and give offerings as well as communicate with the spirits and otherworld. Because of the nature of the tale I can't say too much without it being just that, but know that I heard tales since a small child and studied more growing up and then did the full tilt fantasy binge when older as well as well as seriously delving deeper in the belief systems. The author has a working knowledge and some surprises on the depth of such up with some of the best with one notable difference than what i know, of and that is the naming, both giving or asking, which usually isn't done as it gives control to someone else. I would definitely suggest this book and it isn't as it seems from  the start, you won't really be able to readily expect what follows next throughout it.

I think I should start this by saying I love the fae - and they were portrayed well in this book. I loved how elements of real-world beliefs and myths are incorporated into the book, many things some pagans will be familiar with. It's a captivating read with wit and twists that keep you guessing. Not necessarily a light read, but a very interesting one!
