Description

Stalkers rarely become serial killers, but when they do, it is even rarer if the murderer is a woman.

But, it happens. In "The Swirling Red Mist: A Tale of Murder" it happens in beautiful Solana Beach, CA in the affluent South Cedros Design District when Nancy Thomason moves on the block where she has acquaintances, a new career, and escalating mental illness.

No one seems to notice until it is too late.

The Swirling Red Mist was a book I didn't want to put down. The action was pretty much non-stop. Definitely, a good read and a great twist at the end! - Ellen Garthofner Ruane

The Swirling Red Mist is an astounding debut novel. McDermott, delivers a powerhouse murder mystery. This thriller follows a female serial killer. It's totally engrossing and you can't put it down. Its galloping plot envelops you. This mystery that will draw you in and not let you go. A hint of love, romance, and jealousy is just beyond the violence. Totally engrossing and absorbing. You will be drawn in by McDermott's storytelling. -Constance Freed

This book blew me away! It is exciting with unexpected things happening all the time. It moves really fast, the scenes change rapidly. It is hard to explain but it is like reading a movie. And, even though I read the murders as they happened, I had no clue what was about to happen. It is like no other book I have ever read. Talk about a gripping tale that keeps you on edge, this is it. I know the author is new and this is her first book but I couldn't tell it when I read it. I swear once I started reading I never put it down until I finished it. This is one story I would love to see made into a movie. - Tricia Finly

Great read! And a great description of how asociopath/psychopath becomes more bold and confident and I like the way the story shows how psychopaths become so frenetic they go on killing sprees. Seemed realistic to me.

Within the first 20 pages of "The Swirling Red Mist: A Tale of Murder", a line I had heard as a therapist came to mind, "You're not paranoid if someone is really after you." Geree McDermott tells a tale that is fast paced, exciting and takes the reader on a macabre journey into the mind of a serial killer as the murderer weaves her madness into the daily lives of the main characters. Guy Qvistgaard, B.A. in Psychology, M.S. in Counseling, MFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) since 1983, including a long career in hospital administration and behavioral health.

Am not an easy five star rater; but this is five stars. The story appears laid out for you, as you know who the psychopath is, and you know she's going to be busy doing the deed she's skillfully good at doing. McDermott writes a good mystery, she knows her location well, she understands small business, and she's expert at research. Absolutely absorbing. Will add, was refreshing to have a substantial paperback, 9 x 5, easy to read anywhere. I highly recommend it.

I was very frightened when I first started reading this at night while alone. I really enjoyed how she built up the level of suspense and the ending just broad sided me. I finished this book quite quickly and would love to read it's sequel.

What a fantastic read! The plot thickens and thickens and keeps you until the last page. I look forward to Geree’s next novel.

I give this thriller five stars. I read the book in two sittings because I could not put it down! I thought I had the plot figured it out, but there is a twist that you just do not see coming. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and can’t wait for the next one!

Hard to put down, finished in one day. Appears to have done extensive research on details about the suspect’s mental issues, police work and locations where the story took place.

The Swirling Red Mist is a superb psychological thriller. The story moves very quickly and draws you in right from the start. I ended up staying up until almost 3 am to finish this on a work night. Even though you have a pretty good idea what is going to happen, there are still plenty of surprises along the way. I would love to see this book made into a movie! It would be an instant hit. Well written, gripping, and heart pounding.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

My Review:
This psychological thriller grabs you from the beginning and does not let you go until the very end. Overall the book is very well written and the characters are well defined. However the one thing i did not like about The Swirling Red Mist is the cover image. I know many may think this is petty, but there are many people who are visual and I think this cover does not do justice to the excellent writing of the book. I would like to see another cover used.

I was provided this book free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion. If you enjoy twists and turns and novels that you are so engrossed in you cannot put down until the very end, then this is the book for you.

I could not resist reading this book even though I knew it would cause nightmares for me! Curiosity when a new neighbor moves in quickly changes to horror. Be sure and read with the lights on!
