Description
A tour guide leads a Valentine's Day-themed ghost walk, visiting the sites of horrific, yet romantic, deaths. A homicide cop solves tough cases using tips from his plants. Scientists discover a new species of religiously observant gophers, and a young math whiz, on the hunt for her escaped boa constrictor, ponders the theory of multiple worlds. Replete with dark humour and cheeky interrogations of philosophy and metaphysics, the thirty-three stories in How to Tell if Your Frog is Dead expose the fundamental absurdity of the human condition.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to read How to Tell if Your Frog is Dead by Julie Roorda. The author approaches each story freshly, and incorporates humor and, at times, even a shadow of horror. The stories are clever, whether written in exchanges of dialogue or in the style of a tour guide. Now that I have read a digital copy...I want a hard copy. Amazing work, and I really enjoyed it!

How to Tell if Your Frog is Dead was at times funny, surreal, wacky, and most of all, unpredictable. Some of the short stories were refreshing and interesting enough to made me stop and think for just a moment. Some made me laughed out loud. It's a fun book to read in the summer by the beach with an ice cold drink.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

How to Tell if Your Frog is Dead: Stories whispered the old magic again, and I read the beatified words of a talented author. I felt like I was walking on my own shadow; the little scandals, the big crimes, the church steps and public shaming were a hazy mirage riding over rich topical knowledge, which I always considered funny and exceptionally intriguing - Hadi Atallah, author of ‘Rosemary Bluebell.'
