“Dramatic, engrossing, suspenseful, exciting.”

French Privateer and former pirate, Captain Drago Gamponetti is given one final mission from his employer, the king of France: reclaim religious relics from a New Orleans cathedral. Trouble begins when he's forced by a mysterious, veiled, novitiate nun to swear on the Bible to protect the very items he was instructed to steal.

Church healer, Eva Trudeau hides more than her face behind the veil. The convent has been her safe haven since she crawled, beaten and bloody, to its door nine years ago. When an old enemy re-surfaces and threatens to drag her back into the dark underworld from where she’d escaped, both she and her dark pirate captain stand to lose everything they’ve fought so hard to protect...including each other.

This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Flowers and it is not your typical "Ton" Regency Romance.
Our main characters are a "retired" Italian pirate and a former gutter snipe who is now a novitiate-in-training with healing abilities.
Drago, our hero, needs to steal the very relics that are housed within the church where Eva, our heroine, resides. Having been taken into the church when she was a young girl. after having her face marred by her "protector". We follow the two from Jamaica to New Orleans. While they are working toward different purposes and trying to avoid being caught in the cross hairs of battle they begin to care for each other.
The only negative thing that I can say is that I wish they had given a little more information about Dragos' cousin who is mentioned toward the end of the story. I can only hope that the reason for the omission of detail is that her story will be covered in a later publication.
If you enjoy a book that has it all: mystery, intrigue, action, adventure and a HEA then this is the story for you!
I recommend that you purchase the book to find out more. You will not be disappointed.
Finally, I would like to thank Chloe Flowers, Flowers & Fullerton, LLC and NetGalley for gifting me with a copy of this book for my honest review.

A soon to be nun, who is a healer, helps a pirate with his young charge. Soon they are involved in the Battle of New Orleans testing their trust for each other and a new country called America. Against the odds of reason, they fall in love. Eva will save him from turning to the dark side and bring him into the light. A nice pace to the story.with.lots of action.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I voluntarily read this for an honest review

I really enjoyed this - it was absolutely not your usual historical romance and it was all the better for that. Loved the historical aspect

It was darker than my normal romance fare and I think I enjoyed it more for that

I found the story unpredictable and enjoyed the way it played out

A romance with a bit more substance than the usual
