Description

"Hilarious, morbid, and sometimes oddly touching, War and Peas is among the best of the best in modern comics. You'll be laughing out loud." — Sarah Andersen, creator of Sarah's Scribbles

"One of the most exciting and funniest webcomics in the world," — Bored Panda

From the creators of the hugely popular Instagram comic War and Peas, this offbeat four-panel comic features a dark, fairy-tale aesthetic and a twist ending each time. War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers combine twisted humor with a beloved cast of characters including the grim reaper (seen here as an unintentionally lethal man of leisure), a robot in hopelessly in love with his scientist creator, and a promiscuous yet self-assured witch. Unlike most webcomic collections, this one tells a story using dozens of never-before-seen comics to chronicle the lives of several different characters and their follies during life, death, and their glorious reunions in the afterlife (and the after-afterlife).

War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers is a collection of webcomics produced by Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich. Originally published on their webcomic War and Peas, this collection, due out 3rd March 2020 is 160 pages and will be available in paperback format.

The art is deceptively simple. The single page comics are in 4 panel format, with many recurring characters (Death shows up quite often, for example). The humor is ever so slightly off-kilter and is surreal with elements of magical realism, nerd culture, absurdism, and irony. About half of them elicited a smile or giggle from me.

This would be a good selection for current fans of the authors' work online, or for fans of webcomic style 4 panel art in general. It's a very fast read with appealing quirky art with a modern (somewhat nihilist) aesthetic.

Three and a half stars.

I was reading this comic on Tapas so when I saw there is an arc I had to read their comics again.
This is full of dark humor, witches, death, doggos.
This isn't for everyone and not all will find this funny. But for all readers out there with a dark sense of humor, this is the book for you.

I loved the graphics and the cute stories! Obviously some of the stories require a dark sense of humor, but if you can appreciate that then you'll love this short read!

This was a fun little comic book strip collection. I liked the recurring characters that appeared in this and the sexy with was most definetley a favorite. This was a fun way to pass an evening.

First of all, I'm very thankful for having been able to read this as an ARC.

I read it all in one sitting. It was truly funny. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. The short comic format made it super easy to read, and I loved the dark humour throughout it.
Completely recommended to anyone who wants to have a fun time.

This book was a wonderful collection of jokes and funny scenes! I absolutely loved it and the writing style was great! The illustrations were amazing and it was really easy to follow!

I loved this collection of comics — they are hilarious and sneakily subversive. I had not read this web comic before but I am a fan now.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC, in exchange for an honest review. Ok, so I already love War and Peas, and clearly I have need of this wonderful book in both my personal and our libraries collection. Dark, twisted, witty comics that will have you chuckling out-loud. Yes, you will indeed chuckle aloud when reading this, beware, I realize this is almost a dead notion. How dare we express joy and agreement? I truly can't wait to get our copy so that I can read it, chuckle aloud in our somewhat peaceful library and then show them cover with a very grim reaper and a very slutty witch!

A quick read, and a great introduction to a funny comic.
Consistently interesting, sometimes thought provoking, I found myself telling my spouse about some of the comics that made me think about things differently.
This book is good, but I don't know that I'll re-read it... I would buy it as a gift, and then follow War and Peas on Instagram (oh wait I did that).
**I received the ebook version from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

this is 100% for you

I definitely want to own this book and go through it whenever I'm having a bad day lol

A collection of four-panel gag comics which at first appear to stand alone, but gradually stitch together into something more. Not only do characters such as the first sentient robot, the dog who's tired of being a good boy, the grim reaper and the slutty witch recur, but their next appearance will build on the punchline of their previous one, and occasionally they even cross over. Who knew the mania for shared universes would run so far? And it is definitely something closer to that than the usual comic strip gang structure. Also, they're very funny, or at least I thought so, certainly measured by the metric of how many you want to show the poor sod who's in the room while you're reading them. And there's even one about what to do if they don't agree! Absurdist, wry, often quite dark without being tritely edgy; very much up my street, though as ever with humour it shouldn't need saying that YMMV.

Finally a comic that isnt all smushy and cute. It very much appealed to my twisted sense of humour.

This is great for those who are already fans of the War and Peas comics as well as those who love dark humor mixed with nerdy and feminist humor for adults. For those who don't enjoy such humor, this wouldn't be a good fit. The book is a quick read but very fun.

I thought this was a great collection of comics. They were all funny, and I found the writing to be spot on. I kind of wished there were some essays in which the authors talk about the themes behind some of these topics (like the other comic books that have recently been released), but overall, I was quite happy with the book.

I loved this book! It was a hilarious and fun read. I would highly recommend it for anyone with a dark sense of humor.

I was familiar with this comics because of seeing them all over the internet. It was very nice to have a bunch of them in one place to enjoy. While not every single one was my cup of tea, overall this was fun and enjoyable.

Some of the characters you've seen such as the witch and grim reaper make frequent appearances. If you already like the comics this is a good quick short read. And if you are new to them it's still very easy to jump in and enjoy.

Thank you to Netgalley for proving me with an ARC.

I’ve long enjoyed the War and Peas comics as an occasional reader, so I was happy to see a collection where I could follow the comic storylines from the beginning with bonus content. It follows the characters of the Grim Reaper through his misadventures at work and leisure (as he tends to accidentally take his work home), a ghost boy through his adjustments to life as a ghost and reincarnation, and a sex-positive witch through her love life, as well as a variety of regular humans who intersect with them. I loved being above to follow the characters in a continuous flow with gaps filled in. I sometimes found the humor too dark for my personal tastes, especially in the earlier comics, but that may not bother other readers who are more used to the content of the comic. It’s a fun, quick read for anyone who enjoys War and Peas, black humor, and supernatural characters just trying to live their lives.

“That was when I knew I had a problem.”

— 3.5 stars —

Like nearly every collection of comics I discover on NetGalley, WAR AND PEAS began as a webcomic that I’d never heard of, but will now follow religiously.

A little bit morbid and a whole lot weird, WAR AND PEAS features four-panel comics that are loosely related, with a recurring cast of characters. There’s no-nonsense scientist and her sentient robot, who’s not-so-secretly in love with her; a rad feminist dog who keeps finding himself back at the pound, for myriad reasons; a gay couple, both named Bob; a straight couple that meets when the dude bends over to pick up a lucky penny, only to split his pants down the backside; an old timey couple who lost their son, sold into indentured servitude, in an industrial accident and comes back as a ghost; and a sl*tty witch and her vampire paramour. Most at least merit a grin, while a few actually had me guffawing.

Naturally, I am partial to those strips with dogs, robots, and patriarchy smashing (not mutually exclusive).

LOL, LMAO, and ROFLOL. This collection of wonderfully wry comics celebrates everything I love about War and Peas. The grim gallows humor coupled with brightly-colored, endearing illustrations makes for an enjoyable wink at humanity. Thank you,War and Peas, and thank you Andrews McMeel!

War and Peas an odd, quirky, morbid, hilarious comic I found on Instagram. Being a fan of their work, I was excited to read this collection. I had read and enjoyed several of the comics in this collection, but there were some I wasn't familiar with. There are also certain storylines that develop over the course of the collection, and it was fun to read those comics in order. This is definetly not a comic that will appeal to everyone, but there is a lot to like about these comics. My personal favorite series is the Grim Reaper, which is often quite heartwarming. If you have a quirky, dark sense of humor, you should give this a read.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Oh this collection of comics is witty and funny and dark. They take beautiful unexpected turns that aren't really unexpected at all... I kept thinking, "Oh wow, you went there!" The book definitely worked for my sense of humor, or a sense of humor I appreciate.

I'm going to admit that I didn't like the cover and almost didn't read the book because of the cover (Yes, yes! So cliche!). Don't do that. Read the book.

Fans of "War and Peas" now have a physical collection they can keep on their shelves and pull out whenever they want a fix of this webcomic's particular blend of absurdism and deadpan humor.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you like comics, especially morbid comics, then you'll love these individual comics. If you already read them, then you'll be a fan of this collection.

They're oftentimes linked however with the same characters. There is a lot of hilarity within this book of comics. And there are some really wild parts too! Sometimes you're left with a question mark and you're wondering "did I really read that?" in the best of ways.

You're going to laugh, you're going to cry and you're going to be horrified in turns. There are things that people may or may not get, you've got supernatural elements. It shouldn't work in some ways, but in others does work.

This is a fast read, and it's great for people who like the quirky and the morbid. There are quite a few panels dealing with things like death and suicide, so do be aware of that.

The drawing style is simple, but it works well with the content.

"War and Peas" is a very funny comic book, with interesting little characters that appear all through its pages that reminded me of early Terry Pratchett, when simple humor and plays on words where the basis of his stories. In "War and Peas" the same happens. You have little vignettes that tell a story in just one, two pages, all of the dark humor kind. And Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich have done a great job in creating a simple but charming, engaging, tongue in cheek, with lots of dark humor, comic, where recurrent characters like the robot, the dead boy, the witch... have some very funny moments. It is never boring, and it's read in a sitting.

On the downside, it is not anything that you haven't seen a hundred times before, because many of these play of words, vignettes, are just variations of many others, and that means that sometimes there will be more chuckles than laughs. And a couple just fall flat (but that could be my sense of humor, more than they being bad per se).

The drawing style is simple, but perfect for this kind of comics, where the punchline, the little details, and the humor are the most important part. They convey perfectly the authors' purpose and are very funny.

Strongly recommended.

War and Peas by War and Peas is a hilarious set of comics. Funny, relatable and just wonderfully wicked.

I've followed War and Peas online for a few years now and this collection brings together some of the best of the duo's four-panel humor. These are comics for fans of subversion that walks the line between silly and morbid. I'm partial to the Slutty Witch character in particular, but all of the characters have their charms.

I've seen this comic sparingly in the past so I was really excited to see it come out as a full book!

I really love the humor here. All the supernatural creatures were my favorite parts.

Also, everything with that dog was absolutely adorable and couldn't have been cuter.

The illustrations are very fun and nice to look at. Many of the jokes had visual gags that were just as funny as the verbal ones.

It definitely is a more mature humor, but it's not overly gross or explicit, which I really appreciate.

In any case, it's a really cute, fun, and funny read that I highly recommend!

If you have seen any of the strips of War and Peas you will love this bind-up. The comics are funny and witty. Slutty witch is the best.

I've always loved War and Peas and it was so much fun to be able to read a collection of the comics!! They're usually very funny and relatable. I kind of want to read it again. If you need something to make you laugh, read this.

"War and Peas" is a collection of the War and Peas four-panel webcomic along with some new material.. Before reading this book, I had seen one or two of the comics posted on the internet (their "escort" comic cracked me up), but I wasn't aware of the creators' Instagram account and its substantial following. And it was a great way to be (mostly) introduced to the comic's dark, dry, wry, absurdist humor.

The series follows a series of recurring characters as they make their way through life--or death--and their paths occasionally collide. They include a cute brown dog, a slutty (her words; I don't judge) witch, a child-sized ghost, the Grim Reaper, and a same-sex couple named "Bob and Bob." Lots of books are described as hilarious, but this one really did get me to laugh out loud a few times; still, the collection contains its share of comics that are more clever or silly than truly funny.

The book is short, and I read it in about half an hour or so. I was lucky enough to review a netgalley copy (thanks, netgalley!). I think that if I'd paid for it, I would be a little bummed that I could plow through it so quickly. It might be a good purchase for a household with multiple War and Peas fans or as a gift to introduce new readers to War and Peas' completely bananas world.

I've seen numerous "War and Peas" comics online and have always enjoyed them. I've now finally read them all together and it is a fine collection of comics that had me laughing all the way through! I look forward to reading more of Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich's work in the future!

I'm a fan of this comic-strip graphic novel style and the authors did pretty well with it. Unfortunately, there are some jokes that fell a little flat for me. I finished it in one sitting and would definitely recommend it as a quick before bed read. I did like the ongoing stories of a handful of characters, especially the robot. While this wasn't a belly-laugh kind of book for me, I enjoyed it overall.

This was an ARC recommended via NetGalley.

Without knowing it, I have already been previously exposed to War and Peas. The creators originally posed frames bit by bit online. Which grew in popularity and, most likely, necessitated this book. What is so much better about this book than the selection of clips I have previously been privy to, is the unique structure. This book is not just a collection of comics, it is a collection of easily digestible strips that can be consumed individually or as collection. What’s more is the humor continues on throughout the length of the book. For example, there is a couple that starts out on a date and you get to see that couple’s relationship progress with humor within the select frames and over the course of their reoccurring frames. This continuance makes for a “joke within a joke” impression that makes you feel like you are in on something extra that one would otherwise miss if only reading these comics in a select few and in no particular order.

While not all the jokes were on par with my level of humor, I thoroughly appreciated that the humor was often pun humor or raunchy adult humor. Also, the punch lines were often delivered within a single frame (typically the last) which made for a quick delivery since the majority of these are only 4 frames.

This comic collection was super enjoyable. This was a random quick read for me so I did not know what to expect. I loved the dark humor so much and really hope these authors publish another book! In the meantime I will be bookmarking and visiting their site regularly for some more laughs.

I love these comics. I've seen them around online for a few years now and I'm very excited to see that they are being released as a print book! They're hilarious, but it is very dark humor. I will likely request that my library orders a copy for our adult department. I can't quite justify putting it in my teen collection with some of the content. This is a great quick read and if you like dark humor, I definitely recommend it.

This was good fun.

The book is by the authors of War and Peas, an online comic which can be found at https://warandpeas.com/?blogsub=confirming#subscribe-blog.

The comics are similar to the online version, with short amusing cartoon strips and quirky characters.

The drawings are quite simple but are really funny if you like comic strips. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up on the website too. Definitely a good book for the coffee table.

If you familiar with the web comic War and Peas, then you know the humor here, a very dark, oddly funny four panels, with the kicker in the second and last panel. The main characters are Death, a witch, a dog, a robot and ghost. There are a few others, but those appear to be the ones used the most often.

<img src="https://g2comm.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Screen-Shot-2019-12-28-at-5.24.27-PM.png" alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5552" />

I didn't find myself laughing out loud to any, though I did find them amusing.

It is the sort of book you would give as a joke, to people with the same dark humor as the authors.

Obviously, people who love the web comic should pick it up.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

So funny I love the kind of unique twists to the humor here first you think a jokes going one way then it goes another. So dark and funny, blunt and witty. I enjoyed the blurb about the authors at the end too. It’s always nice to see the face and story behind a book like this.

War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers

Being able to produce regular four-panel gag strips that are also reliably funny is an uncommon thing. The internet is filled with many different sorts of webcomics, but only the brave tackle the challenge of producing short, well made gag strips. It’s much harder than it looks.

War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers is a collection of cartoons from the website of the same name. Elizabeth Pich and Jonathan Kunz’s art is pretty and also minimalist; we have cute but not highly detailed depictions of the various characters, in a style that would be familiar to fans of work such as The Perry Bible Fellowship. The sweet, quirky design is innocent and simple. The humour however, isn’t.

This is a collected comic book stacked high with filthy humour and lots of subversion. One of our recurring characters is Death, who apparently has a dog and is getting a little bored with his job. The break-out character is ‘slutty witch’, a long-legged redhead with a pointy hat who apparently dresses in a revealing Halloween costume. Most of her gags involve sex and the supernatural in some way, with some human sacrifice thrown in for added spice.

We also have a horny robot who doesn’t really understand love, a dumb dog who understands people a little to well and a pair of permanently lost hikers who don’t seem to understand anything. This is quite clearly a collection of strips from a web-comic (one page is dedicated to the memory of Laika, one of the Russian space dogs. This is a lovely tribute and makes sense on a website, but here it just seems like a bit of a non-sequitur as it appears in the middle of the book).
War and Peas – Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers isn’t essential in anyway, and it’s most likely going to be the sort of book that sits in one place and is read at random. However, it’s a lot of fun and if you have a friend who has a dark sense of humour (and a big sense of fun) it would make an ideal gift. This is perfect casual reading for anyone who might find themselves in need of short and funny distractions. Ideal for putting by the phone or leaving on a bathroom shelf.

Silly, sexy and just dark enough. Rather fun.

War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers by Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich is a physical book version of War and Peas webcomic series that's still being published on authors' website. It's coming out in March 2020 in paperback form. Just as webcomic, it's in 4 panel format. It's totally not a read for everyone. I'd advise not to read it if you are under age of 18. It shows a very specific dark humour that might be a trigger for some people. Fortunately, I'm living for this kind of humour and that's why I really enjoyed this read.

I've read some of the webcomic before so I knew what to expect and it didn't fail me. Readers encounter several different characters (such as a cute little ghost, grim reaper, slutty witch etc.) and follow their shenanigens. My personal favorite was and still is grim reaper but I enjoyed others just as much. Funny, dark and absurd.

The drawing style is very simple yet charming in its own way. It lets readers focus on punchlines and enjoy the comedy aspect. I'd strongly recommend checking this out if you are fond of dark and twisted humour!

War and Peas is an enjoyable "web to page" graphic novel. Comics range from laugh out loud goofy jokes to strange and weird satire. On many occasions I usually find myself bored with graphic novels that come from web comics, mostly for the fact that I've seen the strips online beforehand, but this collection had many I hadn't seen and I really enjoyed the laughs they gave me. Some of the more "satirical" or "weird" comics missed the mark or punch-line perhaps but over-all its a perfectly good read.

My top three favorite strips were "Pizza Surprise", "A.C.A.B", and "Beautiful Sadness".

This quirky collection of comics will have readers young and old laughing their pants off. The characters have hilarious conversations, and the storylines are easy to follow. As the collection follows several different characters and plotlines, things move along quickly as I wanted to read more about each of the cartoon plots. The witch had to be one of my favorite characters, especially in the strip where she visits her gynecologist and they find out about her vampire-ex! I would highly recommend this book to Millenials who enjoy funny comics online, and I look forward to reading more comic strips from this artist!

Omg where do I even begin with this. I am sure I have seen a few of he comics as memes on various sites but was unaware of the blog that they had come from, though after reading this will be sure to check it out. Keeping that in mind, I realize with these sort of books that since it started as a blog that usually the author(s) will pick those comics that were the most upvoted or liked and most often these books are usually good because only the best comics are chosen. Even so I feel over I would like more of what these authors do.

I liked the dark humor in all of these little comics. I never felt it went too far but the sort of morbid humor in these comics are the sort of humor I like. Could see some people feeling maybe a few going to far. Personally though felt they walked that fine line between too morbid and just morbid enough to be fun and entertaining. I also liked that that there repeating characters. Just makes it more fun. Will say there were a few of the comics that fell a bit flat but think that is a given in any selection of comics . Not all of them are going to land. Most though were again morbid and overall funny. Will for sure try to check out the blog that these are from to see what else they have to offer.

My one and only complaint about this book is that felt it should have been a bit longer. Get that there is no way that they could fit every comic from a blog probably full of content but overall still felt it was a bit too short. That though it is a very minor compliant in a overall great , funny comic selection.

This was a hilarious read; a fast one too. I came to know of the creators of these comics through Twitter. Later I found out how big they were! War and Peas is well worth the hype. These don't make you giggle, they make you laugh out loud, scream in laughter. I like how the characters reappear after some pages—it was a nice touch. Morbid, dark, wickedly funny. There are vampires, the Grim reaper, a witch trying online dating, ghost, robots, scientists—a mad, funny cast that are guaranteed to make you laugh. I found only very few of the comics to be meh/okay-ish. Most were pretty good. This book would make a great gift for someone with a nice sense of humour.

I come across the War and Peas comics once in a while when I'm goofing around on the Internet, so I was excited when this ARC was available on Netgalley! I really enjoyed this collection. The humour is a little dry and dark, so it's probably not all of it is for everyone. But it's still entertaining! The art style is unique and accessible and despite the book being a collection of single page comics, there was some narrative there which was pretty cool! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick read! 😁

While this wasn’t laugh out loud funny, I enjoyed the humor of these comics. I was not previously familiar with these strips but I look forward to reading more from the authors.

Some oft-kilter, 4 panel comics that may make you smile. There's nothing earth shattering here but I did find some humor. This is probably for a teen or older audience. There is some cursing and adult themes. The comics mainly revolve around a reoccurring cast of a robot, a dog, the Grim Reaper, a slutty witch (She refers to herself as such), a gay couple, and a kid ghost.

This is a collection of the War and Peas Webcomic. I quite enjoyed it. It’s definitely more for adults, as the adult humor is sometimes crude and very often suggestive. But it sure is a lot of fun. Some of my favorite parts involve death riding a skateboard, or the seductive witch and her slutty nature.

I have a very sick and wrong sense of humor so I find this comic to be absolutely hilarious! I enjoyed this collection a lot, and it cracked me up several times.

I. LOVE. THEM. This kind of humor is my cup of tea. Slutty Witch is my favorite character there. They managed to create one of the best strip webcomics that is out there. I already bought a few of their prints and I have been looking at their work for a long time and it never disappointed me. So I am really glad to have that work collected in one book. Instant buy.

I really enjoyed this!

I'm not usually a huge graphic novel fan but I do enjoy short panel comics so I thought I'd give this a go. Specifically, I really enjoy the comics by these creators. I've been following them on Instagram for a while and I enjoy their content.

This collection was really fun. I particularly enjoyed the slutty witch and sentient robot panels, I'd love more of them. The slutty witch is my spirit animal!

The art style is simple but the comedy is great. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

3.5 stars

I have followed the instagram page for the comic war and peas for less than 12 months, enjoying the art and humour. I have found that many of the scenes have been featured there recently.

The pages were simply titled and each character had 4 frames on a page, in their own storyline and other characters were jumbled with other pages of the other characters storyline. Basically what I'm trying to explain is that the slutty witch featured several times throughout the book, instead of several pages creating a chapter of the slutty witch storyline.

My favourite characters' storyline involved the reaper having some down time on his scene titled "where the corpses go", and I also can relate to the "laundry" scene with the ghost boy character. I did literally laugh out loud at reading these pages.

Damn this was funny! I didn't know the author but after reading this, I'm definitely gonna keep up with future releases.

I thought a lot of the jokes in this book was very clever and well thought out. It’s one of the rare instances that I actually laughed out loud while reading a graphic novel and I think anyone could enjoy it.

War and Peas is deliciously funny. I agree a couple of the comics go too far even for my dark humor, overall I was delighted in the wit and vampire jokes as well as the further adventure of death.
I would have loved t see teh related comics blocked together but otehr than that, this book is a greta collection of hilarious content.

If you use the internet, you may be familiar with War and Peas, a funny and fantastical comic series featuring Death, Bob and Bob, Dog, ghosts, and one of the coolest and most confident witches you’ll ever meet: she has impressive magical powers, and she knows how to deal with catcallers. The comics collected in this book connect various stories and characters in new ways, and if you’re already a fan, you’ll enjoy seeing old favorites interacting as they get married, have kids, fly on their broomsticks, climb mountains, and gross out those very same mountains. And remember, change can be hard, but sometimes a new beginning is just what we all need, whether you’ve just split your pants, or if you’ve been reincarnated as a rock.

War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers is a collection of work from the webcomic series of the same name. The comics themselves stand alone, but there are small connections for the reader to follow. There are characters such as a slutty witch, a lonely ghost, a robot that wants to love, and Death himself (herself? themself? Who knows). Some of the comics are solo adventures, and sometimes they interact. Most of the comics boil down to a single joke or one-liner.

Attempts to explain the jokes aside, I enjoyed them. I don’t know if I’m going to read the book again, but I had a good time reading War and Peas. I’m going to look into the comic itself if I’m in the mood for it. It’s a book for people that don’t mind a bit of dirty humor. If you prefer something a little more family-friendly, this might be a pass for you. While I had fun reading it, I think that I’m a bit outside of the intended audience. The content itself was good, but I don’t usually get the point of webcomic collections without any new content. War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers has perhaps convinced me to check out their website. However, I don’t think this is a book I’m going to be adding to my shelf.

This was and enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. I'd seen this comics around online and found them funny, so I decided to give the book a try when I saw it available on Netgalley. I found that this book had a very cohesive feel to it, thanks to narrative throughlines that you could follow for each of the comic's characters. Whereas a good number of the comics within are available online, I do believe you're getting something more by reading this book as a whole.

This was my first read on NetGalley and it was such a fun way to start! I had seen a few of these comics online before, but there were definitely some hilarious surprises! I will be keeping my eye out for future War and Peas comics!

Abolutely hilarious! I enjoyed it very much. Comics about love, loneliness, sex and sniffing butts. Loved the drawing, a clean a little like what Tom gauld does. Great!

Definitely need to enjoy dark humor. Which I do. Overall, though it was funny, I think I could have passed on this.

I got an ARC of this book.

I have seen this comic around for a while, but I couldn't have told you the name of it until now. The main ones I had seen were of Death and Slutty Witch. So it was really nice to read more than a comic every few weeks.

There is no cohesive plot through the comics. So reading straight through the collection is not necessary. You can read this any way that you like. You can skip to all the Death comics and just enjoy Death doing what Death does (I may slightly promote this way of reading since the comics with Death were the ones that made me laugh the most). I did laugh out loud multiple times while reading, which hurt since I have this weird cold. This book was worth that pain.

Some of the jokes were clever, others were more subtle. There was a sort of joke for everyone. Other comic collections I have read recently focused more on fart jokes or low brow humor, there wasn't as much variety. So I have to appreciate that the jokes here ranged and didn't become repetitive.

Slutty Witch is amusing, but I am not sure why she is slutty. I first saw her in an asexual group, because there is a comic where she says she has no underwear and the guy takes her home to give her a blanket and something hot to drink to prevent a cold. So maybe her name is just silly and has no real bearing on her? I have no idea. I would like to see more of her and find out where the joke goes.

I don’t follow the webcomic War and Peas, though I have seen a few of their comics before on social media, and I picked up this comics collection based on that small sample.

Each page is separate 4 panel comic with a title, usually a description of the comic or a continuation of the punchline. The art is simple and quirky but it works well with the humor. Some of the comics can get a bit raunchy, but for the most part it’s absurd and macabre nerdiness, usually with a humorous twist. In other words, it’s pretty classic web comic humor.

There’s a set of reoccurring characters, like a robot, a ghost boy, a self-described slutty witch (and her vampire boyfriend), and the grim reaper, which build on previous gags, but otherwise there’s no overarching theme to the collection. Sometimes the characters cross paths, with the witch and the grim reaper as my favorite. The simplistic style means that the book is a quick read, though I think it also has decent rereadability.

Some of the comics worked really well for me (I loved the printer overlords), while some felt like they were trying too hard to be edgy. I think it’s the nature of this style of humor that each particular joke either works very well or not at all for a person, which can make the collection as a whole feel uneven.

Overall, though, any collection that has Death rolling off on a skateboard after breaking up with someone gets a thumbs-up from me!

War and Peas is a non-themed comics collection that leans toward the morbid, the ironic, and the startling. It’s great fun! With simple, clean, yet evocative art, and relatively little dialogue or explanation, the four-panel comics are very enjoyable. The jokes can be somewhat sophisticated sometimes, and have a definite adult edge to them, but they’re definitely more dark and devious than anything else. I didn’t find anything really surprising, but I did enjoy the various ideas explored by the authors, and I did feel this was a neat little book for a little light reading. I do plan to keep track of what comes next in the War and Peas comics!

This was very funny to read! It made me laugh aloud multiple times. I would definitely recommend this to someone who could use a good laugh!

This was delightful! I found myself laughing so hard at some of the comics in here!. It’s a fun and sometimes morbid tromp into humanity and it was awesome.

The only reason why it isn’t a full five stars is because of all the suicide jokes which could be deemed harmful to some people. This contains a lot of dark humor, so if that isn’t your sort of thing then I wouldn’t recommend it to you.

For all those who like dark humor and don’t take it too seriously you will probably really enjoy this and find it just as a funny as I did,

A wonderfully dark selection of four panel comics , War and Peas had me chuckling on many occasions, The comics feature a wonderfully offbeat cast of characters including a skateboarding Death, a robot in love with his creator, Good Boy the dog and of course Slutty Witch. At first it seemed like each comic was a stand alone , but then I noticed over the course of the book, there was a more linear structure telling more of the stories of each character. The simplistic art style works incredibly well when trying to tell a whole story in only four panels. and quite often there was a sting in the tale that turned expectations upside down. There are plenty of nerd culture references and lots of irony. I had not seen the work of this creative team before and I was really impressed.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

Whether you’re single, in a relationship, pining over someone, or just feeling dead inside, Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich’s War and Peas: Funny Comics for Dirty Lovers is the romantic humor for people who find reasons to laugh in the dark.

Maybe you’ll find yourself in the witch or the vampire she’s dating. Maybe you’ll relate to a robot’s unrequited love for its creator. Maybe you’re just a ghost looking for a purpose and a group to hang out with. Or maybe you’re Death itself, making the most of the afterlife. Presented through fantastical characters of the living and the dead, this comic book will surely melt your heart into giggles.

My favorite stories in this whole comic are those about Bob and Bob. They’re so adorable and the twists in their scenes are so swoon-worthy!

I’m giving this a star less because some of the panels in the first few pages were a bit bland. But things only got better as I went through the pages.

I recommend this fun read!

It was pretty fun reading this graphic novel. Each strip contained its own set of characters, and they all had their imperfections. As this graphic novel moved forward, we got to learn more about these characters. I had some good laughs seeing them go on all kinds of wacky adventures. This won’t be a graphic novel for everyone, but I think some people will enjoy it.

I forgot to download this book before it was archived so I waited for our store to get a copy and read it!

This was a fun book to read. I like that each story is only 4 panels so you can pick up the book read a couple of stories and put it back down for later. I love all the characters, they all made me giggle at some point throughout the book.

Front to back this book is hilarious. I was very excited when I saw this cover because it looked perfect for me. I like funny and punny comics and this hit the mark. I wanted to screen shot about 80% of this book and send it to my friends. My favorite part about the book is the witch characters story line, when she is at the doctor I literally laughed out loud in my library which is a big no no but was totally worth it. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for something light and funny between other reads. I also think it would be a great gift book.

As a fan of the comics seen on the web, I was pleased to have an actual book form to collect them. While the artwork is simple and straightforward, the humor is spot on and often unexpected. Many of the comics are adult oriented without being vulgar while others tie into each other. Definitely worth a read for old and new readers alike.

Every popular web comic seems to be expanding into publishing collections of their comics. Since I’m more up to date on my reading books than I am reading webcomics, this is a good thing. It also means I have only seen War and Peas passing by on my channels from time to time so most if not all comics are new for me.

The comics follow a pattern of four panes, and usually they are a little morbid. There are certain returning characters like The Grim Reaper, a robot, a witch, a dog and a ghost. Quite some of the comics made me smile.

An enjoyable comic collection of short, funny, and sometimes a little bawdy 4-panels about Death, pets, and more.

Fun, snarky, and a little bit wrong at times. This collection of the War and Peas webcomic won't please everyone, but it'll please people who have a sense of humor that leans toward the dark side. There are many recurring characters, but not a running storyline, so don't expect that. Reading this was like eating potato chips- I just kept putting it in my brain, couldn't stop till I got to the end. It reads really quickly, but it's one I'll go back to and snicker again.

Decently funny with simple but effective art. I've encountered many of these comics online previously but it was great to get a full collection to give me more.

Unexpected punches, hilarious endings. I love War and Peas comics online and I loved them in the book.
Ever since I read The Book Thief, I find any commentary or depiction of the grim reaper very amusing and telling, so War and Peas is one of my favourite online comics.
In the book, too, the jabs and jibes are hilarious, well-timed and at times, dark. Just the way I like them!

A laugh out loud hilarious collection of comics that are lightly morbid, and oh so funny! I loved the art-style, and colors. I can't wait for the next collection. Brilliant!

A huge thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I greatly appreciate it!

This was super cute and funny. Most of the strips made me smirk or giggle a little. My favorite one was Take Me. I guffawed at that one. There isn't really much of tying theme except for either death or sex. It was cute though. I guess the authors actually have a blog online where most of these comics can be found. I didn't like all of them so that's why it was only 4/5. Overall cute.
