Description

New York Times bestseller Brennan’s latest novel featuring FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid finds her searching for a missing child in Cut and Run.

“BRENNAN [IS] A MASTER.”
—Associated Press

FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid is dead-set on solving a cold case—even if the original investigators stonewall her every step of the way. A violent storm has uncovered the remains of a family that authorities assumed fled the country years ago to avoid prosecution. But the body of the youngest Albright son never turned up. If the child is dead, why wasn’t his body found with his parents? If he’s alive, where has he been…and what does he know? Now Lucy and her partner Nate must reconstruct an old crime to find a missing child in the present day.

“CAN’T-PUT-IT-DOWN SUSPENSE.”—Fresh Fiction

Meanwhile, investigative reporter Maxine Revere is called to San Antonio. A confessed killer of a young woman named Victoria has recanted his statement, which opens the door to a whole new world of secrets and betrayal. Max hires Sean Rogan, Lucy’s husband and a seasoned PI, to help. The discovery that Victoria might be connected to the Albright family leads Max, Sean, and Lucy to the darkest corridors of corporate crime. But how can they untangle this complex web to find justice for the victims…and the killer in their midst?

I was thrilled to enjoy another title in the Lucy Kincaid series, one of my favorites. The added plus is it’s a two for one read with Maxine Revere riding in to solve a recent case as opposed to her usual cold case. Yet that is where Lucy and Maxine once again go head to head as it seems their cases could be connected, but how in the world is that possible. Corporate crime rears its ugly head and you have a lot to wrap your head around as both women peer into their cases and the murders and events that have brought the story to their attention. All investigations and research is handled nicely either by the FBI, Lucy and partner Nate, or Lucy’s husband Sean Rogan working with Maxine. There are twists and turns galore, great character interaction (you have to enjoy the interactions of two very strong women sometimes at odds but so strong in what they stand for – justice), and suspense as they all move to bringing their stories to a conclusion. A recommended read!

A Lucy Kincaid novel that won't disappoint you. With another heroine Maxine Revere in it as well.
A mass grave is discovered after a big storm with the Albright family that everyone thought had went into hiding in Mexico to escape a crime that Mrs. Albright had committed. But only four sets of bones were discovered, instead of the five. Where is the missing son? Is he buried else where? Was he alive? This case is over three years old, and the investigation was ended, when the police thought the family was in Mexico. Lucy and her partner Nate are going to go through everything with fresh eyes, but someone doesn't want them to continue.
Maxine travels to San Antonio to do a favor for an old family friend to find out what happened to his murdered daughter Victoria. The man responsible for the crime has recanted his story of committing the crime. Maxine hires Lucy's P.I husband Seth Rogan to help her out. One thing they didn't plan on finding was that Victoria is connected to the Albright family. Such a deep, twisting and suspenseful story. It goes way beyond of what you might think.

In the latest Lucy Kincaid book, Brennan brings together two of her series characters: Lucy and Max Revere. This is not the first time the two female protagonists have intersected during their individual investigations. While Lucy and her partner, Nate, are investigating bones discovered during a flooding rain belonging to a family of 4, Max and Sean are investigating the murder of a Max' family friend and the accused killer who confessed and now has recanted. Lucy's case involves a murdered family of a woman accused of embezzlement. The problem is that the facts don't add-up for the embezzlement charge and there's a member of the family whose bones were not found in the mass grave. As she and her team seek to find the missing boy and the guilty party, they discover that the boy may have witnessed the killers (including a police officer) and seems to have runaway. Is he still alive? Max has been called by a family friend to find the truth about a murder that seems also to involve embezzlement and the arrest of an innocent man. Eventually, Lucy and Max realize their cases are related, but they each must explore with their unique methods and resources. It's a heart-pounding race to discover the truth.

My Allison Brennan collection is extensive and I cannot wait to add a physical copy of Cut and Run to my shelf! This is book #16 in the Lucy Kincaid series and though it is not necessary to read all the others in the series, navigating the cast of characters would certainly be easier with background knowledge. This book totally measures up the rest of the series standards- thrills and mystery, shocks and great characters, and page-turning action. Loved it!
