A Father's Daughter

This is a story about divorce, step families, father daughter relationships and alienation.. Abby finds out that her father’s wife has suddenly left him and her 7 month daughter. Abby decides to try and salvage her relationship with her father and help him out with his daughter Cara. She moves in with her father and takes over the house and Cara. Their relationship is strained and Abby does not get the relationship she desires. His wife, Allison returns and the atmosphere goes from bad to unbearable as Allison resents Abby and does everything possible to deteriorate Abby and her father’s relationship. Cara meanwhile has become attached to Abby and doesn’t want anything to do with her mother. There is a young man across the street who takes Abby under his wing when things become very bad at home. The story revolves around Abby’s relationship with Allison as well as her relationship with her father. Abby’s father’s never does form a relationship with her. The ending is sad but realistic. This debut novel was the most haunting, unbelievable story of a man that walked out on his wife and daughter and started over with barely a second glance at the lives he crushed. Such a tragedy. Abby wanted her father's love and to be noticed. 💔 Katt Rose did a fantastic job of writing this intense novel. I can't wait to read more of her books.

This book was such a good read, I couldn't put it down! The story and the characters were so well written it felt as if you were actually in the story!

Wow wow wow! I could not put this book down. I absolutely had to find out what happened after every chapter I read. Very exceptional read, I am recommending this to our book club as well as people who want something new to sink their teeth into. Loved it!!!

A superb debut read!.

17 year old Abby makes the decision to move in with her estranged father. He now has a child (Cara) who needs care - his marriage to Alison (not Abby's mom) is over.

Excited to help out and with her college (next year) only 15 minutes from her dad's place, Abby leaves her mom, Jenna, to be alone with her new husband, Mark..

Why did Abby do this? Her dad, Jack, has an extremely bipolar personality. He's hot and cold. Mostly cold. He forgets about his baby, Cara, he has erratic working hours, and a nasty attitude most of the time.

At least Abby meets Alex who lives across the street. He becomes a life-saver for both Abby and Cara. The reader knows Alex really likes Abby as more than a friend. Yet Abby treats him as a friend. That's it.

W find out how Abby has trouble going to her final semester of high school - Cara is left by Jack many times. Abby cooks, cleans and is late for school many times. Rarely does Jack show appreciation to Abby - only when he is in a "good mood". He clearly is taking advantage of Abby. Yet, she becomes sort of used to it. That is until Alison arrives...

A super read. Great character development and difficult to put down! The reader feels for Abby yet we wonder why she continues to put up with everything... Many Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley!

It is hard to believe that this is a debut novel, as the characters are well-developed and the relationships between them are written so beautifully. Abby's loyalty to caring for her father's daughter, Cara, after his wife leaves him puts a whole chain of emotions in place. Her love and loyalty are tested as she makes sacrifices to ensure her sister is being cared for and loved, despite her father's nastiness. I found the author's writing to be enjoyable and cannot wait to read more from her.

I really ended up enjoying this book. The tenacity and determination of abby was so admirable and impressive.

This was an emotional book to read. I did enjoy it. The main character Abby remained strong throughout the book and it was well written. There was a lot of thought gone into the storyline and l recommend it to be read.

A beautiful story about a young woman, overcoming the hurt from her chidhood. Follow along as she becomes an amazing and loving woman. The characters are real and loveable. A very well developed storyline, impossible to put down. I recommend for teens and up.

An absolute must read! This book was an amazing example of courage and determination. In the most desperate times, we jump into defensive mode and survival mode.

The dynamics of split families and the miss-information that comes with them. A great read that had me missing sleep to finish it. It sat on the TBR pile for quite some time, when it really shouldn't have. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Thank you NetGalley.

Interesting story about a High School.girl in her Senior yr.who goes to her father's rescue to help him with his infant daughter,after his wife leaves him in the lurch.
Oh yes,this is his 2nd.wife.He left his 1st.daughter and wife,when she was only 4 yrs.old and they had no contact for 13 yrs.
She tries to get close to her dad,but as a Dr.he keeps long hours and often works 7 days a week,so when he is home,he's usually exhausted and they don't communicate.
After many months,his wife returns and wants to play mommy again,but she hates his older daughter.
The story gets good,as she works against the girl at every turn,especially where her father is concerned.

A Father's Daughter is the first book that I read by Katt Rose and I found the story to be the most realistic possible. Broken families and relationships, children who assume the role of the grown-ups, bonds that are formed because of these mixed-up connections. In spite of all the bad that happens, there are lessons that can be taken, such as caring for the young ones, and for a parent (doesn´t matter if he/she assumes the position they should, properly), and how to react when the situation goes awry. A sad story but one that grabs the reader's attention to the end.
