Description
Our tongues have the capacity to savor the sweetness of homemade ice-cream, while simultaneously releasing bitterness through rashly spoken words. Soul Food discusses the importance of disciplining our mouths. Using scripture and personal experience combined with family recipes, Melissa helps us understand the ramifications of the words we speak.

“Soul Food is a wonderful compilation of encouragement, scripture, practical application and deliciousness all contained in one book! We can all relate to Melissa’s personal reflection from life experiences. Her daily devotions are thought provoking—challenging us to do and be better. I, for one, cannot wait to try many of these tried and true family recipes! What a clever way to blend spiritual food with physical food—we need both to survive. Thank you, Melissa, for sharing Soul Food with us!”

“As fresh as homegrown tomatoes, Melissa Moxley’s book, Soul Food, is a tasty parable, a masterful blend of food for the body and food for the soul. Like the sweet smell of fresh cinnamon draws us to the food court at the mall, she invites us by our love for the natural to come and taste of the Spiritual.”

“What a feast for body and soul! Melissa Moxley, in Soul Food, braids not three ropes of dough into bread, nor three shining tresses into a plait, but rather she intertwines tasty recipes, soul-searching scripture and inspiring devotionals into refreshment for the reader. I look forward to trying some of the recipes. Amen to the array of scriptural verses reminding the reader that our words define us all. The daily devotionals nourishes the reader. This book will whet the reader’s appetite for more insights from Melissa.”

SOUL FOOD is a unique daily devotion book by Melissa Moxley. Using scripture and personal experience combined with family recipes, Melissa helps us understand the ramifications of the words we speak.
I like the format Melissa Moxley has chosen to use in this book. There is a Contents and Introduction followed by the recipe of the day, scripture verse, devotion and meaningful quote. The recipes are easy and have simple ingredients that you already have on hand or can be found in the local grocery store.
"A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perversion in it breaks the spirit." - Proverbs 15:4 (ESV)
" Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!" - Psalm 141:3 (ESV)
The Vegetable Beef Soup recipe for Day 9 and the Pecan Pie recipe for Day 10 are two recipes of many that look yummy. I can hardly wait to try the Creamy Garlic Parmesan Brussels Sprouts recipe for Day 18, and Chicken Stir Fry recipe for Day 24.
*Special thanks to author Melissa Moxley for writing this multifaceted daily devotion book. Also, thanks to CrossLink Publishing, NetGalley and Melissa Moxley for providing me with a digital ARC of this book, thereby providing me the opportunity to write this unbiased review.
