I really liked this drink book. The drinks all look lovely and come from so many different geeky sources.

First, I love that this recipe book starts out with syrups, add ins, and how to rim the glass (among other effects you can have on your drinks). All the recipes are geeky in nature, mostly based on video games and tv. My fav ones to try are Miruvor (Lord of the Rings), Bloodwine (Star Trek), Tatooine Sunset (Star Wars) and of course the Sonic Screwdriver (because YES). While some of the recipes call for some strange liqueur I am not sure where to get, most of these recipes seem accessible! Perfect for your next party.

I absolutely adored the recipes and geekyness of this book! The Butterbeer was so delicious! It would be a fun addition to any SFF loving person's shelves.

This is the perfect gift for the geek in your life! This book is full of recipes for alcholic and non-alcoholic drinks inspired by some titans of geek culture such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and video games such as Fall Out. The recipes are really simple to follow and the pictures accompany them are gorgeous and vibrant. Amazing book!

A super fun cocktail book filled with lots of tasty looking recipes from a bunch of my favorite video games, books, and shows. A number of the recipes looked straight forward and simple to make, but there were some that looked daunting to make. I particularly loved that there was a section for non-alcoholic drinks. I'd be happy to purchase this for my bartender friend, who is also nerdy and would love to make some of these with me. ;)

I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

What an amazing treat for boozy nerds! I had high hopes for this book based off the gorgeous cover and amazingly it managed to match every single one. This is a beautiful collection of really interesting cocktails based off various nerdy and geeky properties. All the big names are here and there's bound to be one fandom for every type of geek. The majority of drinks are attempts to make real-life versions of drinks found in the series (for example, Butterbeer from Harry Potter or Soulstorm Brew from Oddworld). Some are generic geeky drinks (red health potion) and others are inspired by geeky worlds (Sonic Screwdriver).

The presentation of this book really impressed me. It's clear from the foreword that the author wants to make the cocktails as easy and as cheap to make as possible, and this shines throughout. No brands are used and while there are certainly fancy drinks here, there are also plenty of affordable ones. Every cocktail photo is stunning and no detail is too small to not include when it comes to presenting them in an appealing and fandom-relevant way. My little nerd heart was so happy to just view the pretty drinks and I really appreciated the care and love the author shows for each property she mentions.

The book also starts with some great general advice. Unlike some cocktail books, this is written in a very straightforward manner and once again, the tips for improving the appearance of the cocktails were incredibly simple but effective. Instead of assuming you're willing to spend hours prettying up your drinks, the book gives you several effective but easy methods to make them beautiful in almost no amount of time. These methods are then referenced in later recipes as suggestions but can easily be ignored if you want to keep things even simplier.

Overall, this book is by far the best cocktail book I have ever read in terms of including ingredients which are easy to acquire and also making drinks which are simply exciting to look at. This would make a wonderful present for the nerdy drinker in your life and I look forward to making a few of these at my next geeky party. I am very impressed!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

This is a fun cocktail book. At first I thought the particular variety of geekiness was too far out of my wheelhouse, some parts resonated with me and I could still appreciate the others. Great balance between the blurbs, the recipes, and the photographs.

When I saw the title of the book, I was really intrigued. I’m a geek myself, and I do love a good drink, so that was the perfect combination.
From fans of Zelda, Star Trek, to Harry Potter,... You can find a large amount of fandom inspired cocktails, for the more advanced mixologist to the person that likes to stir something up for their geeky buddies.
I’ll sure use it for a next DD game, Lord of The Rings marathon or Harry Potter Trivia night.

This is a fun little book for any sci-fi movie, video game or TV show lover or cocktail lover. I'm not really either, but I still enjoyed the creativity, especially in the special effects that Reeder teaches you how to do. She clearly put a lot of thought into these drinks and there's a huge range of shows and movies she pays homage to past the standard science fiction types, from Fallout to Bob's Burgers to Brooklyn Nine-Nine to The Nutty Professor and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, plus many more.

There are color photos of all the drinks, and they all sound fun and tasty.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

These are certainly not your everyday drinks! Inspired by geeky TV shows, films, books and the like The Geeky Chef creates fantastic and beautiful recipes of the drinks you’ve always wanted to try. If you want to show off to your Harry Potter loving friends there’s something for that, wanna try something from Doctor Who? There’s a recipe for that. A brilliant collection of recipes.

Very polished and beautifully put together collection of drinks inspired by or found in 'geeky' books, movies, video games and more. The photos are gorgeous and the recipes are clear, PLUS there is an intro for each drink explaining the origin and background of the drink.

A fun read, but also very useful, especially if you are planned a themed gathering, or just want to mix up a matching drink when you watch your favourite show/film.

*There is a lovely 'companion' book with food recipes by the same author - The Geeky Chef Cookbook: Real-Life Recipes for Your Favorite Fantasy Foods

I don't normally make drinks at home, but after reading The Geeky Chef, how could I not pick up The Geeky Bartender?! And there's a recipe for VESPER! Yes!!! Just when I was ready to toss out the weirdly shaped glasses I have, this book gave me an inspiration on using them as a 'magical elixir' glass.. Paired with The Geeky Chef, and a million hours of streaming (with occasional bouts of physical activity), I'm pretty much all set for my next viewing of several 'geeky' shows.

I read this book immediately following The Geeky Chef Cookbook, and it was a perfect companion for what I hope are obvious reasons. This delightful cocktail, mocktail, and non-alcoholic beverage book continues to provide a delightful window into my favorite fandoms. The book opens with simple and easy to follow explanations for techniques used in bartending and mixology which was quite nice to see. And the recipes themselves all sound quite tasty (how one manages to make Blood Wine sound tasty is beyond me), which can be a problem with many adaptations of sci-fi/fantasy beverages online. But not here!

The photos contained in the book continue with the themed set styling, and there is an abundance of photos which is pretty uncommon for cocktail books. It only adds to the charm of fandom-related content. It also helps illustrate that the cocktails themselves are well balanced--you see what you are going to get, and in my experience and an unappetizing looking cocktail is generally going to be exactly that.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Tonight I will make some Blood to celebrate and to accompany my binge-watch of The Vampire Diaries while practicing social distancing. Cheers!

Such a fun way to cope with Corona isolation. This will have you and your friends (obviously only a few at a time) in stitches as you work your way through absurd sounding list of cocktails. Hangover is not compulsory as many are non alcoholic but in these times, you might chose the others

I received an advance copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I loved it. Everything about this book calls out to my inner nerd and it’s amazing. Not to mention the drink recipes are extremely cool, creative, and look delicious. The drinks are categorized according to different sections/themes (dystopian, sci fi, books, etc) and every drink has a witty explanation of its inspiration.
Highly recommend this and I can’t wait to try some of these recipes

Such a brilliant book! So many great tips on decorating and preparing the drinks.
And great drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. This is a must have for Geeks and lovers of brewing unusual drinks!

Many recipes also offer a “virgin” version. Pretty sure this is going to become my official host/hostess gift!

Okay, I had never heard of the Geeky Chef until I read this book, but where the heck has this lady been all my life?!

The Geeky Chef Drinks is full of cocktails inspired by all your favorite fandoms. Some of the drinks are classics with a twist. Some of them are new concoctions. All of them sound delicious. So delicious, that when I got to page 46 I had to stop reading and go out to buy some banana schnapps. Obviously, the rest of the book was read while enjoying some Hero Drink. Which was incredible!

I seriously loved this book. It literally checked all of my boxes. Cocktails? Check. Simple syrup recipes? Check! The Hero of Canton? Check! Though, I’m not sure I’m brave enough to try any Mudder’s Milk just yet.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “but Mal, do I have to be a geek to enjoy The Geeky Drinks?” To that I say, “Dwight, you ignorant slut!” Even if you’ve never watched an episode of Doctor Who (why?). Even if you’ve never heard of Tatooine (what?). Even if you have no idea whether you’d join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks (come on?!?). I still think you’d enjoy at least one of the drinks that Reeder has created. The pictures are shiny and each drink is accompanied by a paragraph that explains what fandom the drink is inspired by and a little context of what and how the drink came about. Not into booze? She even included a virgin section with some great non-alcoholic drinks. I was surprised to find myself eager to try the booze free drinks but when Harry Potter’s Pumpkin Juice and Fallout’s Nuka Cola are included, who could blame me.

I honestly cannot wait to make a bunch of these cocktails. I’m already imagining the amazing themed parties I could throw! If you’re a booze loving fangirl (or boy), you gotta check these recipes out!

I have read the authors other geeky cookbook and enjoyed it but I think I liked this one even more. All of the recipes seem very achievable and I really enjoyed the 'special effects' that could be added to take the drink to the next level. I also really liked how every recipe had a really great picture to show exactly how you could present the drink.

Featuring nerdy recipes for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, The Geeky Chef Drinks is your chance to sip your way through your favorite sci-fi and fantasy worlds. Author Cassandra Reeder has created authentic real-life drinks and cocktails inspired by your favorite fantasy drinks.
Featuring more than 60 original cocktail recipes, you’ll also learn edgy cocktail tricks, such as creating a “shimmer effect” in your liquor, giving a sparkle rim to your glass, and adding fire or mist to a cocktail, along with concocting simple syrups and ice-cube effects. Easy step-by-step instructions and fun themed photos make these creative recipes perfect for your next party, season premiere get-together, or your standing reservation for a party of one.
Please note: the first drink recipe in the ARC,"White-Gold Tower", is wrong. The ingredients listed don't match the instructions or the commentary. Disappointed since I like the sound of this mix.
Other than that, I enjoyed the mix of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. The Geeky Chef knows her fandoms and I plan to make at least a few of these recipes.

This was such a fun book, especially for the geeks out there. There's plenty of fandom represented, such as LOTR and Star Trek and lots in between. There's a few drinks I'd love to try, such as the HP inspired Fire Whisky.

I love the recipes in this book. They have Beer Milkshake from Red Dwarf, Nuka-cola from Fallout, Giggle Water from Harry Potter, and Mudder's Milk from Firefly just to name a few. I will be buying this book to try out all of the recipes once I can go shopping for supplies that aren't necessary.

Let me start this review with this. I don’t drink. If it’s harder than Mountain Dew, it’s not for me. So why am I reviewing this book? I loved and reviewed, THE GEEKY CHEF COOKBOOK. Being a sci-fi geek from far back, I couldn’t not check out, THE GEEKY BARDTENDER DRINKS. And just like the cookbook, this was so much fun!

Author Cassandra Reeder knows her sci-fi, fantasy, and other fun genres. Between the TV shows, movies, books, and games the author mentions is chapters like Special Effects, Magical Elixirs, Sci-Fi Spirits, and Literary Libations, just to name a few, she covers a drink for every self-professed geek that likes to imbibe in cocktails and ale. She even has Nonalcoholic drinks for teetotalers like me!

To wet your geeky whistle, you’ll find drinks such as, The Elder Scrolls: White-Gold Tower, World of Warcraft: Moonglow, The Legend of Zelda: Chateau Romani, The Lord of the Rings: Miruvor, Battlestar Galactica: Ambrosia, Star Wars: Tatooine Sunset, Doctor Who: Sonic Screwdriver, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Black Frost Beer, Harry Potter: Butterbeer, Discworld: Scumble and Fluff, 1984: Victory Gin, Fallout: Dirty Wastelander, Archer: Peppermint Patty, The Simpsons: Flanders’ Planter Punch, Futurama: Slurm, Hook: Poe-Poe, and many, many more!

I had so much fun with THE GEEKY BARDTENDER DRINKS. Several of my favorite sci-fi showed are represented which made me smile. And with recipes for simple syrups, and instructions on things like rimming a glass, I can make even my soda and tea not only taste great, but look amazing. Think about what those of you who drink can do. The stellar full color photos for just about every drink mentioned, will give you an idea of how amazing they will look!

THE GEEKY BARTENDER DRINKS, for fans and non-fans of the genres mentioned, will love this book and make you a shooting star in your universe.

When I saw that these geeky recipe books extended to cocktails, I had to check it out. I’m a glass of wine or one fun cocktail kind of woman in addition to being a huge geek, so I thought this was right up my alley. What’s more fun than trying out some sci-fi and fantasy inspired drinks? Probably drinking them with one of Cassandra Reeder’s fantasy inspired foods!

This book features a nice variety of drinks with fun pictures and short descriptions on their inspirations. I love the tips given at the beginning of the book on making syrups yourself. Plus, the special effects are pretty neat. I’m particularly drawn in by the shimmer effect, which gives a really neat effect that’s perfect for fantasy and sci-fi inspired drinks.

While the recipes and instructions are pretty straight forward, expect to see brand names listed on and off. With drinks, there are some brands that have a flavor that make it hard to avoid recommending particular brands to get the desired flavors. However, I do think that the more experienced you become with making your own cocktails, the more you develop your own preferences and that may help when wanting to substitute brands and other items to make the drinks.

Of course, this book isn’t purely alcohol based. There is a chapter with non-alcoholic recipes in addition to the tips on taking some drinks and making them without the alcohol. For example, there is a tip on making a non-alcoholic version of Butterbeer.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to having fun making some of these drinks.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book is great for parties, movie nights, or just your average evening. I appreciate Reeder's approach to creating this cocktail guide. She includes themed drinks for scifi, literary, and cult classic fans. I appreciate the pictures and small overview of where each drink originated or was inspired by! This is a must-have for party throwers and those who love a good theme party!
