Description

The first in a brand new series from Sara Richardson!

Shy and sensible romance writer Jane Harding's carefully ordered life is crumbling around her. With her latest novel due and her teaching contract at an end, returning home to help plan her best friend's wedding is a welcome distraction. Yet when Jane discovers that the too-hot-to-handle boy who once tempted her is now the best man -- and the rodeo circuit's sexiest bull rider -- her distraction is in danger of becoming a disaster . . .

Toby Garrett is no stranger to risk. But this latest injury could end his rodeo career for good. Thankfully, his recovery at home isn't as awful as he'd imagined, especially when he comes face-to-face with Jane. The kiss they once shared still fuels his fantasies, but when she walked away, he let her go. Now Toby is determined to fix his mistakes. Can this sweet-talking cowboy prove that the passion still burning between them is worth braving the odds?

There is nothing like a sweet cowboy romance to make you feel warm inside! Toby and Jane have both experienced big personal losses that have affected their lives. They each reacted very differently - Toby has basically settled in to live his best life to honor his brother. Jane withdrew into a shy cocoon - pushing everyone away. They were extremely competitive in high school - which led to one explosive kiss and an teenage drama break between the two of them.

Both of them are at another crossroads in their life, when they return to their hometown for their friend's wedding. You can see that for Toby, his interest in Jane was just on pause and immediately comes back when he sees her again. For Jane, its more complicated. Toby scares her in every way possible, and she has closed herself off to any possibility of engaging in anything scary (other than publishing her book).

Overall, this is a sweet read. There isn't a lot of depth to the characters. Jane is very emotional throughout the book, which is understandable considering she is finally dealing with her grief and anger, but it feels like a lot of her recovery and progress happens off the page. Toby's progress is a little more present in the book - but even his moves towards dealing with his past losses and present career choices are kind of glossed over.

Overall - this is a nice western and if that is your catnip you should not pass this by!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this. It was my first cowboy romance and I high key loved it. Something about cowboys is just really sexy and I love it. The relationship between the two characters was so adorable. I love the whole dislike to lovers trope. I would've given this 5 stars if the explicit scenes were a bit more steamy. Those scenes just didn't match up to the rest of the book in my opinion. I still had a fun time reading this book and I can't wait to try out more from this author. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
