Garrett was born in the Barony, a settlement clustered around the relative safety of an old mine. As an apprentice engineer, he's training to guide the scavenging teams that raid the fading wonders of the Before for the scraps of technology his home needs to survive. But when a scouting mission goes tragically wrong, Garrett and his boyhood rival are forced onto a dangerous quest to find the mythical source of the Curse. It's their one and only chance to save themselves... if they can find it while they're still human!

But as they journey across a perilous landscape of monsters and survivors, they'll find their growing hunger reflected in a strange and starving sky.
