Description
It is forty years into the After. What's left of humanity is clinging to survival on the oceans or hiding in the deep places of the Earth. The surface belongs to the Cursed—ravenous, stargazing cannibals whose glowing bodies can twist and stretch into terrible and grotesque forms.
Garrett was born in the Barony, a settlement clustered around the relative safety of an old mine. As an apprentice engineer, he's training to guide the scavenging teams that raid the fading wonders of the Before for the scraps of technology his home needs to survive. But when a scouting mission goes tragically wrong, Garrett and his boyhood rival are forced onto a dangerous quest to find the mythical source of the Curse. It's their one and only chance to save themselves... if they can find it while they're still human!
But as they journey across a perilous landscape of monsters and survivors, they'll find their growing hunger reflected in a strange and starving sky. For the Cursed aren't only threat lurking within the ruined cities and rising wilderness... and Garrett's ultimate destination may be far more distant than he could ever have imagined!
