Lost on the Titanic (Out of Time Book 1)

This was really a fun book to read! I feel like this series has all the right elements to make it successful and can imagine the friends going on all kinds of wild adventures. Even though I would have liked to see more of the Titanic in the story, I can understand they wanted to spend a few pages to setup the characters and theme of the series. Moreover, I liked how the author doesn’t focus only on the adventure, but sets up space for character development as well. Also, some questions are left open ended that makes you want to pick up the next book and read more about who Atlas and Juniper are and what connection they have with the children. Similarly, the characters are all charming, including Luna. Vic seems a bit immature but Allie and Max were adorable.

Furthermore, the illustrations are also breathtaking in this book. Bethany Stancliffe has done a terrific job in bringing the characters and settings to life in her colorful illustrations. Equally, each image stands out beautifully with its vibrant contrast of colors. What I also liked about the illustrations is that even the villain in the story doesn’t look too evil, and make them fun for younger readers to enjoy. Furthermore, I also enjoyed the snippets provided in the end about summary of the Titanic and Molly Brown.

Overall, I thought this was a fun start to the series and I hope it does well in the long run!

A lively short adventure for lively, and perhaps short, readers – it won't really find favour with those in double digits. Siblings and their friend are helping out at an antiques store, when a strange woman tries to give them what she calls an Infinity Spinner. Lo and behold, before their hands are safely round it their puppy has eaten it, and all three kids end up, after a chase, on the first class deck of the RMS Titanic. They eventually get told what to do to get home – but in a place like that, there is all manner of class warfare to be victorious in if they're to ever have a chance. The whole thing is such a pell-mell dash through the adventure, that for once the Rule of Series Openers is broken, that says you might well get a story but you're also getting a chunk of information about how the series is going to work from now on as well, which will have to take precedent. Well, it doesn't here – we hardly get more information about this universe than the obligatory "we'll be back" before the pages end. Now, I love the brevity and concision of it all, but the way this is so pacey does kind of mean we lose some of the logic from the piece – why on earth would the to and fro work the same way?! Still, that's the adult me talking – the eight year old equivalent would probably have lapped this up. And its shortness does kind of leave us wanting more. Star ratings as if from the target readership.

This is a delightful book aimed at the middle school age range, around 8 yrs old. The vocabulary is good for that age but the storyline isn't so childish, so it would also work for slightly older children who struggle with reading.

The basic storyline has siblings Allie & Vic, along with their friend Max, working in their parent's antique shop when a strange woman tries to give them an object - unfortunately it drops & the boisterous dog Luna swallows it. This object is an infinity spinner & when it is spun 5 times, it transports the group to another time & place ... Unfortunately the dog doesn't know this & excitedly runs in circles chasing its tail ...

The group find themselves on the desk of the RMS Titanic, feeling very out of place in their jeans & sweatshirts alongside the beautifully dressed first class passengers, but also with a sense of not knowing if they should say something about the tragedy that is about to occur as they mustn't "change history" ...
As expected, they eventually manage to return to the present time, discover more about the infinity spinners & know that they have 3 more adventures ahead of them. The author has given us enough information about the characters to know that they are going to have great adventures!

The fact that this adventure takes the children to a factual event makes it special - the three people they interact with on the Titanic are based on real people who all survived (due to the children's involvement?!?) & the fact cards provided at the end of the book turn this from pure story to educationally relevant. It would be a great addition to a school module about the Titanic! The illustrations are delightful & those set on the Titanic have had research done,

The book is short but it leaves you wanting more. Towards the end of the book, we discover that the mysterious Jupiter is related to the children, but from the future not the past. We have lots of snippets like this that really make you want to read the next book to find out more ...
Overall, this is a great start to the series, perfect for the target age group, and I would love to read the rest of the series.

This is a short action packed middle grade book with time traveling on it.

What made me interested on this book is the time travel element on it. I've been reading books with time elements on it for days now.

This is a story of Allie, her brother Vic and their friend Max when they accidentally got transported into the Titanic.

I love the fact that there are lots of cute and colorful illustrations within the book. It made my reading more enjoyable. The book is targeted to younger audience as it has a simplistic plot that will entice kids for adventure.

It was a cute read. 😊

This title caught my eye as my son and I read all of the Epic! originals! Many are a refreshing take on different topics and provide appropriate lessons to each age group. This book provides a great plot, engaging characters, and beautiful illustrations. I look forward to more!

This is an interesting way to teach kids facts through adventure stories

The kids in the book are helping their parents in the antique shop when something happen and they are whisked back in time on the Titanic.

I read this with my 8 year, he wanted to read it till the end which is a good sign.

It short so not a lot of details, but it is meant for kids so that might be good.

I would be interested in seeing what are other topics the series would be exploring.

I always love anything to do with this Titanic, it’s a fascinating part of history so I jumped at the chance to get to read this book. I’m so glad that I did as it was a really fun, unique book.

Allie, Vic and Max find their Saturday being boring but soon as a mysterious woman shows up and their dog eats her glowing ball they get transported to the Titanic. The children end up having a wild and fun adventure all while looking for their dog.

I loved the mystery of it and that you have no clue what is going on until you keep reading, I really liked that in the short time on the ship they make friends and that they wanted to help them. They must chase after their rowdy dog who eats everything she can.

It was an incredibly fun book, with wonderful illustrations throughout the book, the story was paced out perfectly and had enough mystery and suspense. I recommend this book for children it’s created so wonderfully and is a great read.

I really like when books about history feature additional facts for children at the end too and this one did, you can learn more about the Titanic and the people on it, plus all about antique stores. It’s a great addition to the book.

This was a quick read. The story moved along at a great pace and had enough mystery to keep you wanting to know more. I look forward to the next adventures by these kids and their treasure hunting. The illustrations are really nice too!

What a great start to this early middle grade series! It follows Allie & Vic Taylor, their friend Max, and their dog Luna on an adventure back in time. While cleaning some antiques for their parents’ shop, the kids discover a glowing orb and meet a strange woman. Before they know it, they’re on the Titanic, trying to find Luna and trying to get back home. Along the way they meet characters like Molly Brown. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a bad guy who also wants this orb,

I really enjoyed this book! It’s a great transition between picture books and full-on MG novels, and the Titanic is always an engaging subject for middle grade readers. The illustrations were beautifully done, and the story overall was well told! I also enjoyed all the characters and how the author implemented historical facts and characters into the book. The only thing I think would make this book better is a bit higher stakes for the characters re: the main problem/conflict. For future books in this series I would love to see more interaction between the kids and the main bad guy. Finally, I appreciated how they included a historical bio about Molly Brown and the Titanic in the back since this is a historical fiction series. Definitely would recommend!

Allie and Vic and their dog Luna are pulled through time back to the day before the Titanic sank. They meet Molly Brown and others as they race to get home before it’s too late. At the end of the story are some facts about the Titanic that young kids might not know. The illustrations are beautiful If you have or know children in this age group, they will love this book.

My favorite part was the art. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful in this book. They have a flat quality with gorgeous colors.

This glowing ball can help in travelling back time and without knowing much they are thrust back in time when there dog accidentally swallows it. As we all know if there is an object that can make or break any situation, there is always a bad guy who would want that object for himself and to use it for his own evil motives. Here we are introduced to the villain of the story. Three of them against the man in the metallic cape, can they escape the obvious doom of Titanic and from the clutches of this evil man?

Lost on The Titanic is the first book in the out of time series. This book was packed with surprises. While the main characters were properly introduced, the strange woman and the man in metallic cape is still shrouded in mystery which I am hoping the author will unravel in the next books. I I read this in just one sitting because the writing style was engaging. One of my favourite thing about this book (apart from the adventurous story) is the breathtaking illustrations. They were absolutely beautiful and exquisite.

I cannot wait to dive into other adventures with my favourite trio in the upcoming books.

I used to re-read the Magic Tree House books like crazy as a kid, and my favorite was the one where the kids found themselves on the Titanic, so obviously, I loved this, though that's not the only reason I love it. The mystery is solid and appropriate for middle-grade readers. The facts at the end of book were a nice refresher for someone who had a Titanic obsession between the ages of 4 and 10 (yes, I was a weird kid). In my experience as a librarian, kids love disaster books, and I'll be recommending this one.

This is a quick but delightful read. The combination of magic/fantasy with historical children will really appeal to young readers. I would have devoured it at age 9-11. The illustrations have a old-fashioned feel that is in keeping with the book, and I enjoyed the true facts at the end. My one criticism is that I think it ended abruptly--obviously this is planned as part of a series, but I want to read the next story now, not have to wait, which is really a very good problem to have.

Short and delightful middlegrade time travel story set on Titanic. I love that the author included real historical figures and I like that there's even an explanation at the end of the book for the readers who don't necessarily know the historical facts already. Illustrations are lovely and I really like the color scheme.

This is a super cute story about a group of kids that time travel with their dog. In this first installment they end up going back to the Titanic and they go struggle between trying to save themselves and not goofing up the space/time continuum. This will be great for fans of the Magic Tree house.

This piece of historical fiction will give the early readers an entryway into a famous piece of history. A lot of attention went into the historical accuracy of the illustrations. Even the side-characters on the Titanic were real individuals. The characters are engaging. The plot is clear. The vocabulary is just right for a chapter book. With short sentences and engaging pictures, this is sure to delight.

This is the Magic Tree House reimagined for a whole new generation of readership. The illustrations add the perfect touch to an engaging and exciting plot. There are historical facts and real photographs at the end of the novel. Rather than dismissing the complexities of time travel, it mentions potential ramifications to the space-time continuum by suggesting that saving the Titanic might actually mess things up. Back to the Future anyone? Finally, It combines time travel with puppies. What’s not to love about that? Highly recommended.

This was by far the cutest and amazing graphic novel I've recently read! I liked everything about it!

Lost on the Titanic is the first book of the Out of Time series, a historical time travel series middle grade kids. This reminds me a lot of I Survived or Magic Tree House - I feel like fans would love this just the same.

Allie, Vic and Max must chase after their rowdy dog who eats everything she can as they get transported aboard the RMS Titanic. I loved the mystery of the story and that you have no clue what is going on until you keep reading.

It was a fun book to read with beautiful illustrations. I definitely know think any kid who loves history would really enjoy this book! I also really like when books that focus on historical events feature extra facts at end of the book

Lost on the Titanic (Out of Time Book 1) is the first book in Jessica Rinker’s chapter book series for middle-grade readers. Delightful illustrations, a quick pace, and a light hearted tone make this time-traveling adventure a fun, easy read, while interesting twists will keep young readers turning pages. History fans will also delight in the well-crafted depiction of being aboard the Titanic.

On the flip side, there’s a male antagonist briefly featured at specific moments to add conflict. His introduction seems important for the series going forward, but, in this first story, his role feels small. It’ll be interesting to see the development of this character as the series progresses.

The story reminded me of the old Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego television series. Readers who enjoy similar stories featuring historic moments will enjoy this book.

Lost on the Titanic (Out of Time Book 1) is a fantastic read for younger middle grade students, especially those who might be a fan of books like Magic Tree House, I Survived, or books about siblings, friendship, and time travel. These books could serve as an excellent gateway for getting kids interested in historical fiction as well.

The artwork in this book is stunning, with beautiful colors, details, and textures. Real historical figures appear throughout the book, with small biographies on them at the end. This end section also includes information on what an antique store is.

The characters were likable, fun, and realistic interpretations of kids.

This book is a pleasant, quick read that I look forward to seeing grow into a series. I want to know more about how Juniper, Atlas, and the children are all related: I already have my theories! I'm likely to purchase/recommend this book for purchase at the library that I work at.

A promising start to a fun new middle grade series.

Rinker’s first installment in the Out of Time series is a doozy: Our time traveling kiddos are transported to the Titanic, where saving themselves from the sinking ship becomes intwined with saving their parents’ antique shop in the modern world.

The book feels like a swashbuckling adventure, but also imparts an important history lesson in a way that is accessible and doesn’t feel like work for those young readers who may be averse to “learning something” in their purisuit of fiction reading.

I’d add that this is a fun one for adults as well, even if you’re already aware of most of the history of the Titanic that is included in the book. Top marks for the delightful illustrations as well.

This is a middle grade novel that starts off with 3 kids, one dog, and a magic infinity spinner. What starts off as an ordinary day for these kids (sibling duo and their friend) in a family antique store turns into a wild adventure that leads them to being aboard the Titanic. They learn about the people on the ship and learn about some of the history surrounding it. They quickly learn that they need to get off of the ship before it sinks, but what they learn along the way will keep you wanting more!

It was a great novel for this age group and if there’s going to be more in this series (and yes there will be), I can’t wait to read them! And I absolutely LOVE the illustrations!

When I was a kid I adored books bout time travel and history like The Magic Tree House series and the description of this book reminded me of that so I was eager to read it! Now, I'm obviously not the intended audience for this book, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I would say this book is really good for elementary age kids. It was short, sweet, and interesting.
I would have liked to get a little bit more development in all of the characters and the whole being-on-the-Titanic part, but keeping in mind that this is a book for very young readers, it's already a good length (about 120 pages). The illustrations in the book were really awesome and definitely helped me to get into the story because I could see what was happening. However, reading an ebook version made it a little harder to read around the pictures because the page would end in the middle of a sentence, and the next page would be an illustration so I would then have to either go back and reread the sentence or I would skip over the picture and go back later.

I had a ton of fun reading this story. These were regular kids who one day met someone that ended up sending them on a wild adventure. They find themselves on a one of a kind ship, and know they need to find a way back home. Seeing this wonder in person takes their breath away a bit, and they meet a few people along the way who help them out. As this tale comes to a close, these kids find out their adventures have only just begun.

This was actually was a fun book. I am surprised by the fact that I liked it. I really cared about the characters, and Luna is amazing. I love that dog. It's a solid start to a middle grade series, and I want to pick them all up. I also learned a lot about the Titanic, which was fun.

I love a great adventure! This new series by Rinker is bound to be one that has kids excited to pick up the next in the series. Reading it as an adult, I wish there was a little more character development as to who this mysterious person coming into the antique shop was - but at the same time for kids - I think the mystery probably fuels them to read more and learn as they go. I absolutely love the child-age appropriate facts and characters introduced during the story and that at the end there was more historical information regarding the Titanic and those same individuals. Overall, a great introduction to a new series of characters that are certain to get into a lot of fun adventures in the near future!

What an absolutely fun book! Two siblings and their friend get stuck in a time travel adventure when a mysterious woman shows up in their lives one day with a magic stone. In this first book, the kids get stuck on the Titanic, and knowing the end of that story, they need to find their way back as soon as they can. With some historical facts thrown in, along with awesome illustrations, and did I mention a dog?! This series is sure to be a hit!

What an excellent book that will keep thrill children and educate them at the same time.
I learnt a lot about the Titanic that I didn't already know.
The characters were interesting and the plot moved at a fast and entertaining pace.

Allie and Vic are just ordinary kids from Philadelphia who help out their parents with their antiques store and love to play with their puppy Luna and their friend Max. But one day out of the blue shows up a strangely-dressed lady who says she needs to talk to them, all three kids, but before they know it, the dog's swallowed a time-traveling device and they found themselves on the Titanic!

This short book is a fun adventure with beautiful illustrations that all kids will love. Who hasn't at one point wondered what would be like to be to see the Titanic in its glory days? (Though not quite on sinking day.) As someone who is quite interested in history myself, I know I have and I enjoyed the few pages of information about it in the end.

The end of the story really sets it nicely for the other books in the series with a promise of treasure hunting and time traveling, and although I prefer stories with characters a little more mature I have to say I'm looking forward to it. Plus, I have some questions that need answering.
Overall, I really enjoyed it!

Every child seems to go through a phase in which they are obsessed with the Titanic--and they are going to gobble this one up!
