Description

"Funny and heartfelt. I loved it." Melina Marchetta

You know those movies where teenagers have the summer of their lives?

This summer is probably not going to be that.

Here lies Maisie Martin, dead from embarrassment, aged sixteen.

The last thing Maisie Martin thought she'd be doing this summer is entering a beauty pageant.

Not when she's spent most of her life hiding her body from everyone.

Not when her Dad is AWOL for Christmas and her best friend starts going out with the boy she's always loved.

But Maisie's got something to prove. And she's not going to let anything or anyone - including herself - hold her back.

This was such a cute, hilarious YA story that I could not put down.

It's written in a diary format, which I wasn't sure I'd like but I almost didn't even notice it by the end.

It also has a strong focus on body positivity which is very much needed in todays society. I found myself relating to the main character in so many ways that were raw and honest.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.

this was the uplifting body positivity read I had no idea I needed ❤ I read this as an e-arc bit am now going out to buy a hard-copy for my shelf because OH. MY. GOD 😍

I'm not even a huge contemporary fan but this was stunning 💫 the novel is written in a diary format with the protagonist moving from general reluctance about having to write in a journal for the whole holidays to actually confiding in the diary like a friend. Thanks to this we also get closer and closer to our protagonist Maisie as she explores herself and builds relationships ❤

Beamer is just... SWOON. From the get go I loved his snark but sensitivity. All the characters have distinct, complex personalities and have a beautiful depth that makes them feel so real 💫

The plot is a beautiful journey of friendship, Romance, learning and self Love. It is a body positive, fun, bittersweet, heartwarming masterpiece and I love it beyond words ❤

Review will be live on socials last week of April.

This cover is absolutely adorable and jumps right at the reader. I love it!

What I Like About Me is a great book about body positivity and all the beauty dramas that come with summer. The story itself has been a bit too easy to predict but that honestly wasn't much of a problem this time as this book gives off a lot of summer and feel-good vibes. It's been an easy read and I really enjoyed the author's refreshing writing style. In my opinion. young readers (12+) should definitely read this book, especially if they're a little bit insecure about their body image.

The characters have been given a lot of thought and Maisie just pushed her way into my heart immediately. She's a great, loyal, loving, and kind friend. Her situation with Anna is a bit heartbreaking but I let you discover that part on your own.

What I Like About Me by Jenna Guillaume has most definitely been a reading highlight in 2020 for me and little Miss C is already eyeing it, too. I can highly recommend this story and am looking forward to reading more from this talented author.
