Description
Jane Larson is back, and trouble abounds on New York’s Upper East Side!
A new client hires Jane to undo the terms of a matrimonial agreement with her ex-husband, the owner of a prosperous hedge fund who does not like to lose. At the same time, Jane’s landlord is working to evict her from the storefront law office where her mother had practiced for many years, and Jane is forced to fight to save her mother’s legacy. However, it seems there is no way she can win.
All too soon, the bodies begin to pile up and Jane has to figure out who is responsible before she becomes one of the victims. Meanwhile, a guy named Gary is trying to worm his way into her life, and, even though she thinks he is much too young for her, she starts to fall for him. The problem is that he has a habit of showing up where the murders occur. Can she trust him?

Jane Larson is an attorney practicing out of her mother's old office and taking care of the poorer residents in the area. Unfortunately, her landlady wants the office and apartment to be released but Jane is not going down without a fight.
In the meantime, her good friend wants Jane to undo a divorce agreement she had signed. Her ex-husband is hiding something ... but what? And his lawyer is as sneaky as he is.
And who is the young man who seems to find Jane attractive, even though he is at least 10 years younger than she? He seems to have an agenda all his own.
Bodies begin to pile up and someone has their eyes on her.
This is more of a cozy mystery with terrific characters. Jane's friends and neighbors are a bit on the quirky side and bring a lot of enjoyment to the story. There are some twists and turns and the conclusion was quite an eye-opener. Although not a real cliff-hanger, there's plenty of room for a lead in to the next adventure.
Many thanks to the authors for the digital copy of this entertaining mystery. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I enjoyed this book. It's different. You really get to know the main character before the murder happens and the investigation begins. The investigation is different from a cozy mystery as it takes place as part of lawyer investigation. It's well written and interesting through out. #KillerSoulMate #NetGalley
In the midst of fighting an eviction from her office and her home, Jane is dealing with the amorous advances of a good-looking but too young member of her local Y. The moment he ducks into her store front office to avoid a process server, is when their lives become entangled. Next up is a case of lawyer fraud - another lawyer, not Jane, you understand. Before long that lawyer turns up dead, and his 18yo daughter wants Jane to prove he was murdered.
The Hicks' have fashioned an intriguing tale here. Lots of truly wonderful characters - some you don't like so much - their stories are fascinating and engrossing and, in some cases, amusing too. I laughed out loud. I cried into my tissue. And I obsessively turned page after page. Jane reminds me of other sleuths I have loved - a bit of Kinsey, a touch of Plum, but with a difference too. I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I think you will be too!
