Sweet and romantic with a touch of heat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you are in the mood for a light-hearted, easy contemporary romance with a touch of flair, this is the one to choose. While this is a third in a series book, it can definitely be read as a stand alone.
Holt really made this story. He is kind and caring without being overwhelming or over bearing. He takes everything in stride and perfectly balances the gruff, standoffish feelings you get from Claire.
Claire wants to hide and not call attention to herself, but the way she goes about it, certainly calls attention to herself too. But once she starts opening up, her sly wit and playful side comes out as well as her passion for Holt.
The author blends a lovely balance between the nervous Claire and the steadfast Holt. With an easy to read style, beautiful character development, along with plenty of spice and heat, the passion flows between the pages.
Move over, Santa. This year, a man in a kilt is coming to town...
Former lead singer for the Scottish rock band, the Scunners, Claire is hiding out in Highland, Georgia, while sorting out some personal issues. She dreads her inevitable return to Scotland, where she must face her distant parents and determine--once and for all--if she is ready and willing to lead the life they want for her. In the meantime, she's staying as the live-in caretaker for Ms. Meadows, an elderly widow with a lot of spunk. She doesn't have the time or inclination to get involved with anyone, let alone Holt Pierson. Especially Holt Pierson, because Ms. Meadows can't stand him.
All around nice guy and Highland's golden boy (and recent Laird of the Games at the Highlands Scottish Fair) Holt Pierson finds Ms. Meadows' less-than-friendly views on him to be fair. After all, his father had been harassing the old woman about buying her property since Holt was small. And he hasn't exactly been that good of a neighbor to her, especially when she needs it the most. But he's determined to change that. And, no, not just because she now has a really pretty girl living with her. Of course not. He's not interested in Claire. Except, he really, really is...
Can Holt and Claire get a Christmas miracle? And will the first annual Highland Burns Festival be a success? And what's wrong with Anna Maitland?
A fantastic conclusion to the Highland trilogy, "A Highlander is Coming to Town" is wonderfully Christmassy and festive despite the warm weather that Highland can't escape (living in Georgia's neighboring state, South Carolina, I feel ya...). This is a beautiful final trip to Highland, where we get to see a whole new Scottish festival, see familiar faces again, and catch up on all the latest gossip of the small town. And, more importantly, we finally get to see Holt in a leading role, and getting all the romance he deserves! Plus, Scottish accents and kilts. What's not to love? (There's a particular chapter that is near and dear to my heart, featuring Holt and Iain attempting--and failing--to cook. It is the best thing I have ever read.)
Another sweet story in the Highland series. Holt and Claire are fun, and found this hard to put down. Highly recommend this book and author.
I’ve read all three books in this series now. This is a standalone however knowing the premise of the full story, reading about all the characters, and visiting with them once again, always makes it more enjoyable for me.
Loved Holt! He is such a good person – always doing the “right” thing – for everyone else – that he sometimes forgets to take care of himself. Claire is a great character too, just deeply conflicted about her life and not really liking herself very much. As the blurb will tell you, she is hiding out in Highland, from her life decisions, from her family, and ultimately from herself. A very touching and sweet (and sometimes spicy) story of two lost souls coming together…and draggin’ those around them into the light as well! Ms. Meadows is a hoot, too. Holt and Claire though? SO good for one another. Warm and touching story. This series keeps getting better and better.
I am enjoying this Highland, Georgia series by Laura Trentham. This was a great installment to it. There is mention of a few characters from past books; but, you don't need to know their whole story. If you have read the last book in this series then you know Holt. I was so happy to see him get his own story and not just be a secondary character. Claire Smythe is introduced in this story as the lead singer of a Scottish rock band called The Scudders. She decided to leave the band and stay in Highland for a while. She is a young woman with a lot of mystery surrounding her. Holt assists her one day and that is the beginning of their friendship; although Claire's promise to herself was not to get attached to any one or any place. It doesn't look like she'll be able to keep that promise.
I thoroughly enjoy Ms Trentham's writing style and prose. This book is well written with some wonderful characters. I loved meeting Ms. Meadows and the cousins Jessie Mac and Jessie Joe; as well as some others. Wonderful story, I almost hated to see it end.
What a great read! I was looking for a book to take my mind off of the troubles of today and this one hit the spot. This is book 3 in a trilogy, I didn't know that before reading - which means you don't HAVE to read them in order!
Claire "Smythe" (in quotes because you KNOW that isn't really her last name!) is a dynamic character who tugs at your heart strings. She is a kind soul who is looking for her path in life and really just trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. She takes a job with Ms. Meadows (now, there's a story I would love to read!!!) who is grumpy and stiff at first and softens as their relationship develops. If Claire can soften Ms. Meadows... she can do ANYTHING! I love that kind of character!
In walks Holt.... a kid who stayed home to help run the family farm turned into a man running the family farm. He falls head over heels for Claire... BUT... Claire's secret... well, it may keep them apart.... will he let it? You'll have to read to find out! HA!
The fact that this is a Christmas novel is an afterthought. There are references to Christmas but it could easily have been set at any other time of the year and still worked, so don't let that deter you from reading it!!
This is a great quick read and I highly recommend it!
I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book by NetGalley at no fee.
This is a perfect contemporary romance if you want a touch of Scottish charm mixed with a pinch of southern hospitality in a Christmas backdrop that will leave you with a smile. I love this series and this is a wonderful addition. This can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
One of the things I love about this book is that it is so much fun to read and it is low angst. While there is a definite problem to overcome before a happily ever after can be reached, there is nothing gut wrenching or dark. The hero, Holt, is everything kind and strong and supportive, there is nothing brooding or secretive about him. Don’t get me wrong, I love a dark brooding hero, but sometimes it is nice to get an uncomplicated and sexy nice guy.
Likewise, Claire, the heroine, has a secret and something she needs to work out, but she is not traumatized and she is also kind and funny and genuine. These two genuinely like each other and they don’t need to work through complex misunderstandings or go through agonizing situations.
I also loved all the friendships in this small town. This was a charming and comfortable read. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun Christmas romance. I hope there will be more books to follow in this series.
I loved this book. It is a wonderful story of a young lady trying to find her place in the world, one that isn't connected with her family name. Claire is sort of hiding in Highland, Georgia after leaving the band that she had been touring with. Claire has been staying with and taking care of Ms. Meadows, an elderly lady who was unable to stay alone any more. Theirs is an interesting relationship and Claire doesn't realize just how special it is until it is threatened by her leaving. After a small mishap, Claire meets Ms. Meadows's neighbor, Holt Pierson. The more time Holt and Claire spend together the deeper their feelings for each other grow, but will their relationship withstand Claire's past that she has been hiding from. Will Claire realize in time that all that she has been searching for for the past few years is now at her fingertips? What would you be willing to give up to be with the one you love? This book had me laughing a lot in some places and then really thinking in others. It was well written and very enjoyable and one that I would read again.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and St. Martin's Publishing group for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. My review is being given freely and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this book! I am so in love with this series and was so excited to read this book. I want to move to Highland, Ga because Laura Trentham has made this town so cute with charming characters and scenery that are so vivid in detail. I could just picture the twins and the tree and the dirt roads. You will absolutely fall in love with this town and this series even if you just read this book for the Holiday book. It can be read as a stand alone. This one deserves five golden rings for sure. This book begins with a skittish Scot who is trying to sneak her way through the grocery store and town. The problem is that a big burly country boy happens to notice she needs some help and that she looks an awful like a Scunners singer who performed a while back at a Highland festival and something seems off about her. This book is about secrets and mysteries in the town of Highland and how it’s okay to ask for help sometimes. Laura Trentham writes fabulous stories about communities and love. I highly recommend this book.
Claire is a down-on-her-luck young woman far from her Scotland home, a singer without a band, a caretaker without kitchen and homemaking skills. Holt is a young farmer taking over for his traveling parents. Both of them are trying to find their way in Highland, Georgia, where they struggle with their strong senses of duty over personal fulfillment, and eventually find peace and love at Christmastime.
I enjoyed this novel quite a bit. It was comfortable like watching a Hallmark Christmas movie, with a bit of spice and character soul-searching for good measure.
Although Goodreads tells me this is book #3 in a series, I did not feel the lack of not having read the first two books.
Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin's Publishing Group, and NetGalley, for a copy of this novel to read for review. All opinions are my own.
This is the 3rd in the series and my favorite so far-they just keep getting better & better! A light, happy HEA. Love the grumpy heroine & pollyanna hero trope. Looking forward very much to the next one.
This book was very fun. I'm not sure how I had missed this series but this one has definitely encouraged me to go back and read the first two books.
All of the characters in this book are so unique and well-written and very fun to follow. There is so much growth and change and it's a great journey to follow along with everyone as they come into their own and learn to embrace each other and what they all want.
A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a delightful third installment in the Highland, Georgia series.
It’s the feel-good feeling from a Hallmark Christmas movie, the steaminess of a romance novel, and the wonderful eccentricities of a small town tied up with a giant tartan bow. Merry (early) Christmas to me!
Alastair and Izzy are still living their happily ever after in Scotland. Anna and Iain are taking their relationship to the next level. But for Claire Smythe, the former lead singer of the Scunners, Highland, Georgia, isn’t a place to find love. It’s a place to hide out, to lie low.
That is, until she meets Holt Pierson.
This wasn’t supposed to be complicated. She was just supposed to take care of Ms. Meadows while she waited for responsibility to catch up to her. Her 25th birthday will mean a return to Scotland and her duties as a whisky heiress.
She wasn’t supposed to meet Holt. She wasn’t supposed to fall for him.
But she did, on both counts.
Holt’s a farmer through and through. He’s a small town country boy, a good guy. He deserves to meet a good woman, fall in love, and start a family. She can’t offer him that. She knows her time in Highland has an expiration date.
But could this limited time offer, friends with benefits situation really turn into something permanent? What would happen if she walked away from the life she was supposed to have and build a new life for herself here in Highland?
This book left me smiling; it wrapped itself around my heart like a hug. After seeing Holt and Claire on the periphery of Highland for a couple books, I was excited to get to know them better. Holt deserved a happy ending, and so did Claire. Laura Trentham has a knack for creating flawed but loveable characters. You want their stories to end happily...and thankfully, you know it’s pretty much guaranteed, even if there’s some detours along the way.
If you need a quick, heart-warming holiday read, I can’t recommend this one highly enough!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my complimentary review copy.
A delightful story of Claire, a Scottish woman of secrets, who comes to Highland Georgia to hide from her past. She meets Holt, a rancher, and they decide to share their burdens and their happiness. I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my honest review.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is third book in the series, and while Claire is not from Highlands, Holt is. Claire is the singer we saw in the second book, and Holt was the road not taken in book one. I'm glad he's getting his story- he was always the sweet, dependable guy, but never set Izzy on fire. Meanwhile, Claire is running from a future she doesn’t want, and a past she can’t escape. As Claire helps take care of one of the residents of Highland, she and her neighbor Holt become close.
This isn’t an insta- love story, and I like that. Though these characters were intrigued by each other, they slowly circled each other until each was willing to give it a chance- though he was waiting on her to catch up. They had a good plot to work through in this; it had real emotional problems for them to solve, not just something thrown at them for the sake of it. I think I’m really happy at where this book finished; two genuinely good characters fell in love and found what they want to do most. This whole series is one that I’ve been happy to re-read even after I know what’s going to happen, and I hope the series continues, though if not Claire’s brother, then I don’t know who it will be for next.
What a great happy read, full of characters to fall in love with.... I couldn’t put it down because I wanted to know if Claire was gonna fall for Holt and tell him her little secret...
I'm sad to see this series come to an end. I've loved visiting Highland, Georgia and getting to know some Scots in the South.
A Highlander is Coming to Town is (finally) Holt Pierson's story. We met Holt in Trentham's previous two Highlander stories. Holt has made his peace with staying in Highland to run the family farm. Claire Smythe is on the run from something and takes refuge in Highland after the summer games. She's taken a job as a caregiver for Holt's neighbor and is spending the time trying to figure out what to do after her upcoming birthday. Because she has a big secret she can't share with anyone. Although she's clear upfront that she'll soon be returning to Scotland right after Christmas.
Inevitably, the sparks between Holt and Claire combust. And as all secrets must, Claire's come to light. And Claire and Holt's simple fling is anything but.
I enjoy these books for their simplicity, their taste of Scotland, their humor. Sometimes I need an escape and these books supply that exactly.
A Highlander is Coming to Town is a Christmas story, complete with a winter storm, hot chocolate, and a heartwarming ending. The perfect holiday read.
I highly recommend it!
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. Wow what can I say about this title it was just an awesome read. This book was just something so wonderfully different I’ve never quite read anything like this. You should read to find out you won’t be disappointed. I’m definitely going to read more by this author.
A Highlander is Coming to Town (Highland, Georgia #3) by Laura Trentham I love Highland, Georgia and would loved to live there or at least visit. I hated to put this down to eat or sleep.... I love all the people of Highland and all the feels in this book, tears, fears, hard decisions, laughter, steam, and of course a very HEA.
So I was able to secure a review copy for an honest review of A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham. Without further ado:
I absolutely loved this book! I'm happy at how the series is progressing and I feel like I've been waiting forever and a day for this book. So enjoyed both of the previous two books, wasn't sure, I was going to like this book as much seeing the preview in the second book and this book's description. However, Trentham has done it again and with the book being such a good time I stayed up all night reading the book. I remember meeting Holt in the first book, A Highlander Walks into a Bar, and knowing I wanted him to star in his own book, so so happy with that story. Can't say enough of how such a great book it is. I would happily recommend this entire series to anyone. The Highland, Georgia series has all the feels and so cute to boot. The characters interact so well and gotta love a happy ending. Also, would recommend reading the stories in order since each book builds on the other with old and new characters coming in for their own scenes.
This is my first venture into the Highlander world, and wow, what I have been missing. Small town charm, quirky/layered characters, and multilayered storylines. The pacing is smooth, the relationships genuine, and the touch of Scots extra fun. Well enjoyed.
Terrific addition to this series! Same full, interesting characters and witty dialogue, but a different more emotional tone. Claire is running away from family expectations and obligations. Estranged from her family, she leads a lonely, cautious existence. Holt embraced his obligations to the family farm and is content, but lonely too. His patents are semi-retired and traveling. Being a close family, he misses them. Add in the delightful and familiar citizens of the quirky southern town of Highland, GA and it’s a book that is hard to put down.
A Highlander is Coming To Town is a fantastic contemporary romance by Laura Trentham. Ms. Trentham has provided readers with a well-written book. I love the characters in this story. Claire has felt neglected by her parents her whole life and lands in Highland, Georgia after quitting as the lead singer of the band she traveled with. Holt has spent his life in Highland, farming with his parents. His parents are off touring the US so he's running the farm on his own. Claire and Holt's story is packed with drama, humor, spice and a little suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Laura Trentham. A Highlander Is Coming To Town is book 3 of the Highland, Georgia Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A great visit to Highland, where we catch up with friends and see Holt finally get his love.
With the author's signature style and wit, this small town novel brings warmth, laughter, friendship and love and makes the reader never want to leave the immersive world the author created.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was excited to see another installment in Laura Trentham's Highland Georgia series. A Highlander is Coming to Town is a charming, feel good story and centers around Claire Smythe and all-around good-guy Holt Pierson. The unfolding friendship and romance between Claire and Holt made for a delighful read. Another 5 star book.
Such a good book, I love be this series but I think this has been my favourite! Claire is such an enigma, as a reader you are aware she is running away from something but your not quite sure what she’s escaping. Her relationship with the town is one of an observer, quite happy to stay in the background, that is until the very sexy and lovely Holt starts to bring her out of the shadows and she starts to become part of the community. However when her past catches up with her, she has some big decisions to make. Another fab addition to an already fab series
I have loved this series. I've been wanting a book about Holt since the first book. And adding a Christmas element to it? Perfect. This was sweet and sexy and very festive.
I have loved Laura Trentham's Highland, Georgia series, and a Highlander is Coming to Town is no exception. I will fully confess to looking forward to Holt's story when he was introduced in the first book of the series and he doesn't disappoint. While this book doesn't have quite as few funny moments as the first two books, it still has all the emotions and complications of real life. Both Holt and Claire come together looking for their place in life and what family means to them. And while this is simpler for Holt - having a job he grew up knowing was coming that he enjoys and parents that love him - his parents departure leaves him feeling lonely and missing close connections. Claire on the other hand has been running from her cold, distant family and their personal expectations of her, so being surrounded by people who care for no other reason than because it's the right thing to do is a shock to her. Scrappy old Mrs. Meadows and penultimate good guy Holt are just what she needs to feel she has a family and home to call her own, even if there's no blood relation. A wonderful ending to the series - although it makes me sad it seems to be over!
I did not discover Laura Trentham until her Highland, Georgia series was released. She is now one of my favorite writers of romance. A Highlander is Coming to Town is one of those feel good books you will not put down. Although a stand-alone, reading this in the series sequence is best. Former series characters are a part of Holt and Claire’s HEA. Highland is a charming small town where everyone knows everyone else. Holt states he has known the town mayor ever since they were little tykes.
Our sweet Claire is hiding in Highland from her family and from herself. Holt and Ms. Meadows encourage Claire to find her refuge and her strength. Ms. Meadows is that loveable, crotchety neighbor everyone loves. Holt is just a hot guy and a gentleman. Claire desperately needs to find herself. She realizes Highlanders care about her for herself, not for what she has because in Highland, she has nothing but herself.
I highly recommend this book, as well as, the first two books in the series. It is a wonderful, heart-lifting story.
A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a delightful, charming romance that is the third in the Highland, Georgia romance series.
Holt Pierson is the local that is at a crossroads in trying to figure out his place in life and what he wants for his future to include when he comes across another soul searching for answers in Claire Smythe, a Scottish singer, who drops into his life with her own problems and issues.
They end up running into one another and are placed into multiple situations where they end up seeking answers and acceptance from the other all while the author has the excellent ability in keeping these potentially deep and serious subjects light, airy, entertaining, and humorous.
I liked the chemistry and interplay between Holt and Claire and enjoyed the plot and pacing, as well. I also love a good Christmas theme, so that was an added plus for me.
All in all a great romance and a great ending.
5/5 stars
