This historical romance is full of mystery, intrigue and witty dialogue. The two main characters are easy to love, and I rooted for them throughout the entire story. I also loved revisiting with the other characters from past books in the series. It was a quick read, and I can't wait until the next one. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Oh wow what a wonderful ride. I was captivated from page one. One soul running for her life. Unknowning the fairy tale wolf would save her. Loved it and the whole series

I enjoyed both main characters. Anya was strong and intelligent, and Seb was a protector with integrity. I enjoyed the descriptions and the world building made me feel like I was there. I enjoyed their banter. Action humor intrigue and steam. Now I want the previous book too. I recommend this read. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by St. Martin's Press.

What an entertaining and engaging book! I love the characters and really felt for Princess Anya. Seb was just perfect. The story was full of mystery, intrigue, romance, and action. It was a great read and I can't wait for more from this author and in this series!

This is only my second novel by Ms. Bateman, and, I can assure you, there will be third, fourth, and so on!

I have eclectic tastes in what I read! I'll try everything. Historical romance, especially steamy, is a favorite go to of mine, especially in-between my dark romance reads. I love the dialogue, I love the slow build of the romance, well, not always slow!

The way Seb and Anna meet; LOVED IT! LOL

This was a fun read and plenty to keep you turning, page after wonderful page!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a lovely, satisfying historical romance that checked all the boxes and had some original and interesting aspects. Seb was a delicious hero. Anya was strong and while she needed protection, she maintained a lot of agency which this feminist reader appreciated. The first sexy time scene was (wooh!) smoking hot and original. The heroine's Russion royal heritage was interesting. I enjoyed all the little details sprinkled in. If you like a little intrigue and action in your historical romances, this is a good one to pick up.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in two days. I am a sucker for regency romances and this book reminded me of the early books of Johanna Lindsey with the strong female heroine and the unorthodox courtship. Princess Anastasia and is forced to flee her home in Paris and ends up in London as the companion of a dowager Duchess. Her life is turned upside down when she meets Sebastian by chance in a brothel. Their brief kiss is something neither of them soon forgets. There is a lot of anticipation as Anastasia is in danger and Sebastian finds himself in the role of protector. I was very satisfied with the HEA. This is the first book I have read in the series and look forward to reading Benedict and Alex’s stories.

Loved it!
This can be read as a stand-alone but is much better and makes more sense if you have read the others in the series.
I found Anya and Seb's story to be very predictable but also very enjoyable. Its not an outstanding story line but one that will hold your attention and is an easy read. I think for me, having read the previous books in the series, it made the story line easier for me to overlook the predictability because I liked the characters and I like the author's writing style.
Anya is a feisty, not your traditional princess and I really liked that aspect of her. Sebastian Wolff is no nonsense and doesnt want to get caught up in marriage like his fellow friends have.
It is very clear that the author did her research about Russia. Everything from traditions, royalty, and even the language is in here and is spot on. Ms. Bateman has a very polished writing style which I like.
Overall I highly recommend this novel and any novel from Kate Bateman

After getting attached to the roguish rake, Sebastian in the previous books, I could not wait for his book. I am so happy I read this book.

I would recommend reading the previous books so you could get more attached to Seb; however, I think this was written well enough that you could fall in love with him without having to read the previous books.

Bateman does a wonderful job crafting realistic characters and character arcs. The natural development of Sebastian and Anya's relationship was so heartwarming to read. The chemistry between the two was sizzling. I loved seeing Sebastian's transformation from the brooding man who hid behind his rakish ways to the lovestruck fool he was by the end. I absolutely love Bateman's female characters. Like the previous characters, Anya was wonderful to read. She was kind, strong, and feisty without being annoying. Finally, I absolutely loved the three of the boys together. I really enjoyed the banter between Seb, Ben, and Alex. They had some really fun and sweet moments.

Along with the characters and the character relationships, I really enjoyed the action and the subplot. Bateman did a wonderful job with her subplots in the previous books and she did not disappoint this time.

My only quip with the book was despite the rest of the book being so unique, I found that Benedict's dilemma and character arc was quite basic (despite how well done it was), causing the book and the reasons for Anya and Seb not to be together to fall a little flat at times.

I would suggest this whole book series to anyone who is looking for something new in the historical romance genre. The plots, the subplots, and the characters are very refreshing and mostly unique throughout the whole series.

The Princess and the Rogue, by Kate Bateman. I am so glad to have read this book. This romance story played with my emotional heart strings and I loved every minute of it. In my mind I kept saying, “more, more”. “Give me more” (wink, wink).
If you read the book, you would know what I mean by this. Hot daum! Kate Bateman, where did you come from? You’re like one of those predators in the jungle at night, stalking their prey. Waiting for that precise moment to jump out and attack. Well I am your prey, and you just gobbled me up with your fantastic writing. It was unrelenting and I loved it. I said it. I L-O-V-E-D it! The writing was crisp.
It was sharp. I was captivated. The writer provided enough drama to keep me hanging on to each word. All the action and the sexual pleasures between Seb and Anya—. Hold up for just a second, before I go on further about the authors writing. Let’s discuss the leading character Seb. Seb. Seb. The man that could be the hero/ savior of any woman’s dream. He moved threw this book with swagger, charm, and dominance. Go on ahead and dominate me! You sexually charged, wicked man you. Where - is - the - release Lord Jesus?! Back to the writing. I enjoyed the witty banter among the characters.
This brought some light hearted moments to the book. The humor is well placed and timed. The suspense. The drama and the high intense romance is wrapped in a neat little bow within this romance story. Anya a princess, who is forced to flee her home country Russia.
She escapes the clutches of a madman and flees to London. She leads a disguised life in London as a companion, hoping that no one recognizes her. Little does she know that someone has been watching her from the shadows. Someone else notices her too. Seb mistakenly assumes Anya is a working lady.
Words are exchanged and things uptick to the next heated level. Later, the two meet again when Anya’s past comes back to lay claim on something that is not his. Anya decides that she must flee again. In her hasty escape with Sebs aunt, mayhem breaks out. Once the smoke clears, Anya finds herself back in London, trying desperately to hide from her past.
Seb believes there something off with Anya , but he can’t put his finger on it. Trying to figure out what to do with Anya, Seb hires her on to transcribe Russian documents for the Bow Street Runners. The action and suspense picks up from there, with mad villains hiring roughings to kidnap and beat people. Documents are stolen and traitors are smoked out from their hiding places. While all this is happening around them, Seb finds Anya utterly irresistible and he absolutely needs her under him.
Anya feels the same way. First of all. Anya, if you are going to make Seb sit in a chair and then order him to hold the back legs of a chair. Don’t sit there in fondle over him! Nooo!
You set the mans male anatomy free. Hop on him and ride like the wind and there is no tomorrow. Like your life depends on your ultimate release woman! Seb and Anya confess their feelings for one another when all heck breaks loose. The dead has arisen, traitors have been scammed, and someone has drunk a heavy dose of sleeping potion.
Oh my! Yes, I recommend this book with two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers... read on! Oh, how the mighty fall. ❤️ Seb’s story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think Bateman hit the mark with these three best friends and developing the stories around these guys. They are humorous and definitely don’t let their buddies get away with anything. I love their loyalty and camaraderie and have just really enjoyed the series.
This story is about Sebastian. He’s the grouchiest one, I think. So it can only be right that he gets taken down by a princess.
The best part of the book is just the unique flavor that the author brings. This is not a run-of-the-mill story loaded with drama and chatter, Bateman works hard to craft entertaining, sexy, and unique stories that suck you right into a time warp.
The characters are perfectly crafted and I just love the slow to burn development of feelings. We even have a touch of suspense to keep it interesting too.
With some twists and turns, Bateman develops a wonderful story you can get lost in which includes a little bit of everything. It’s no wonder that I have enjoyed the series so very much. I hope this is not the end. However, I am thinking we might be seeing a few of these characters again soon!
Awesome Read!
Yay, another Bow Street Bachelors story. After the other two Rogues, Benedict and Alex (To Catch an Earl) found the loves of their lives, Sebastien Wolfit alone. He doesn't believe love is in the cards for him, although his aunt, the Dread Dowager seems to think otherwise. Although, Seb can't help but ponder about the passionate kiss he shared with the mysterious beauty at the famous brothel. Only to learn, that the woman wasn't working at the brothel and disappeared after their kiss. When he promises his aunt to guard her during her travel to her summer house, he finds the carriage being robbed already upon his arrival. And who stumbles from the carriage? The mysterious woman!
As a maid to the dowager, Anya tries to build up a new life. Having fled Russia, after the death of her brother to avoid a forced marriage, Princess Anastasia Denovitsia has been hiding as plain Anna Brown in London. But now it appears her wanna-be husband has found out she is in London.
Although she doesn't trust men (they are always after her name and fortune), she grudgingly accepts help of the handsome nephew of the dowager.
As they try to find out who is behind the attacks and how much the Russian know, Anya realizes that not all men are unloyal or brutal. And Seb may finally understand his friends' frustration with women.
Another great read from Kate Bateman, full of suspense, twists and turns and a lot of laughter. A story with an historical twist. I loved it! Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Ms. Bateman did it again! I love the characters in her books, they all seem to have sass and spunk. This book hooks you from the beginning and doesn't let you go until the very end. Really this entire series is that way.
Bow Street agent Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, is an intelligent man who thought love wasn't real, until his friends fell one by one head over heals for their wives. Sebastians still didn't believe he would be bitten by the bug though until he runs into Anya. Princess Anastasia Denisova (Anna Brown) is a strong independent woman who is doing what she has to in order to stay one step ahead of the bad guy.
I recommend this book to all historical romance lovers.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was just the type of Cinderella story I was looking for. The character's chemistry is electric! I really enjoyed the supporting characters too.
I'm not typically a fan of love at first sight but Kate made this work. I was convinced. The action is fast paced with a few surprises thrown in at the end. One of them I did not see coming at all!
If you are looking for an easy to get hooked into historical romance with fun character -this is your next read!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I received an ARC of "The Princess and the Rogue" by the fantastic author, Kate Bateman and Netgalley. What a fabulous story... the third in the series, but one that can definitely be read by itself as well. Seb and Anya, two people, magnetically drawn to each other, while fighting the mutual attraction due to class differences and a little bit of deceit. A must read for historical romance readers, and anyone looking for a great story.
The Princess And The Rogue...OMG...I couldn't read this book fast enough! Kate Bateman gets another check on my list of books I'm glad I didn't miss. The characters in this book are magnificent! You can't help but love them. This well-written book is the story of Princess Anastasia Denisova as she and her companion go undercover to escape an evil Russian. Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, owner of a gambling den and investigator for Bow Street gets tangled in the tale when he rescues his aunt and Anastasia from kidnappers. Their story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and can't wait for my next book by Kate Bateman. The Princess And The Rogue is book 3 of the Bow Street Bachelors Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Princess and the Rogue turned out to be the perfect pickup read for the weekend. Sweet and steamy, the book was the perfect combination of spitfire heroine and swoon-worthy rogue to keep the pages flipping way past my bedtime. Princess Anastasia Denisova and her companion fled to London on word of her brother's death and the attempted forced marriage from scoundrel Petrov. Working as a lady's companion to the Earl of Mowbray's great aunt, Anya manages to meet the Earl in a brothel for the first time. Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, gambling hell owner, and Bow Street runner, knows that Anya is hiding something but her kisses drive him mad. The story becomes a wild ride of passion as Seb's and Anya's HEA is hard fought and danger ridden. Excellent characters and a charming tale will place this book firmly on my to be re-read shelf and adding the author's other books on my to be read list. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
The Princess and the Rogue
Bow Street Bachelors #3
Kate Bateman
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sebastien Wolff is not only the Earl of Mowbray, he is also a Bow Street agent who doesn't believe in love until he shares a kiss with a beautiful stranger in a brothel. However when the mysterious woman is linked to a missing Russian Princess he starts to wonder if she may have been too good to be true. Now he's got to dig deeper and investigate what may be going on.
Princess Anastasia Denisova lost her brother and went into hiding. Now she's just plain old Anna Brown. And with the dangerous traitor that wants to make her his, hot on her heels the best option for her is to accept Wolff's offer of protection and safe accommodation at his gambling hell. Now that they are living so close to eachother and she is aiding Wolff with his Bow Street cases she is starting to feel an attraction and is afraid because if her true identity is revealed will a romance between them stand a chance? Is it even possible for a princess to marry a rogue? Or will the lies pile up and be too many?
Kate Bateman is a genius. This book was fabulous. The attention that Ms. Bateman put into her book was incredible. There were times that I felt like I was standing there in front of the character she was describing. From the height that Sebastien was to the tiniest laugh lines on his face. It was all there. Anya was such a sweet, caring lady. Together they had such passion that you could feel the heat. I read alot of books, but have now found a new author to follow. This is definitely a 5 star book in my opinion. I would recommend this book to historical romance readers everywhere.
I'm so happy, that I got opportunity to read this book.
The Bow Street Bachelors by Kate Bateman is a series you won't want to miss, and in my opinion, the author saved the best for last. The Princess and the Rogue was a historical romance dreams are made of.
Sebastien was a swoon-worthy hero: grumpy, yet loyal and protective, and cynical about love until he met the woman who changed his mind.
Anya was an amazing heroine. While she was a princess and could have been the pampered and privileged kind, she was actually quite resourceful and independent with plenty of fire.
Together the two of them were both wonderful and torturous; they were fiesty and kept each other on their toes, and then the attraction and slow-burn between them was enough to make me weep. I loved it.
Of course, there was some mystery and intrigue thrown in for good measure, appearances from characters of the previous books, no overbearing drama, the list goes on. All in all, it kept me flipping pages into the wee hours when I really should have been sleeping.
I can't wait to see what Kate Bateman comes up with next.
This book had me hooked and completely invested from the start! Something about Kate Bateman's writing had me so engrossed as I was reading I was on the edge the whole time waiting to see what was going to happen!
This story had mystery, suspense, intrigue, and a whole lot of passion and steam! I adored Anya and Sebastien, both as individuals and together! The chemistry and tension between them was honestly everything I need. I also really love the way this story worked in actual historical facts and aspects to help us get a better understanding and setting of what time period this is set in. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and can't wait to read more from Kate Bateman!
I loved this novel which is the 3rd in the Bow Street Bachelors series. I love strong heroines and Anastasia is definitely that. All the characters in the novel were wonderful and I hope to read more on their stories in the future.
Kate Batemen is quickly becoming my favorite historical romance author! The Princess and the Rogue is a fast-paced story that keeps the pages turning.
Disguised as Anna Brown, Princess Anastasia Denisova, is on the run from a traitorous villain intent on making her his wife. Employed as lady's companion to the Earl of Mowbray's aunt, Anastasia's life collides with Mowbray's, first when he spots her at her neighbors (a Covent Garden brothel), and next when he rides to her rescue as she and his aunt are being attacked by kidnappers.
Jaded after years of work as a Bow Street agent, Sebastian Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, doesn't trust Anastasia further than he can throw her. After all, he met her in a brothel and even propositioned her, only to discover that she and his aunt are thick as thieves. Something's not right. His investigative instincts are on high alert. The last thing he wants is to get more involved with the chit, yet that's precisely what happens when his aunt deposits Anastasia in his care.
An impossible romance between a man who doesn't think he will ever be good enough for a princess, a princess who yearns for freedom rather than marriage, and lots of danger on both their heels creates a truly enjoyable story. One I would highly recommend.
A fun historical romp. Melt-your-Kindle hot and a great romantic story. Loved this one!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I have completely enjoyed the Bow Street Trilogy by Kate Bateman, but this one might be my favorite. Sebastien Wolff doesn’t believe in love, per se, even though his friends have found the love of their lives and are now thoroughly off the market. Sebastien is still only into finding a woman to warm his bed for a night or two and moving on until he sees a woman at the local brothel and can’t seem to get his mind off of her and her turning his invitation down. Imagine his surprise when the young lady his favorite aunt has asked him to protect is the same woman from the brothel.
Princess Anastasia Denisova is in hiding in England as Anna Brown. With a Russian traitor hot on her trail she accepts the protection of Sebastien Wolff and his instance of her living in his gambling hell. She can’t breathe when Sebastien is around, she has never felt so alive in her whole life.
This book has it all: laugher, tears, intrigue, suspense and lots of steamy romance. You do not have to read the other in the series to enjoy this one but you will miss out on some great stories if you do! This was truly a fun book to read!
Thank you NetGalley and St Martins Press for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review!
Wow, I loved this! My first by this author and it was so good I’m questioning why I haven’t read her before.
Anya was an interesting heroine as she was fierce and yet needed a certain amount of protection. However, she was no weakling that couldn’t do anything for herself, but she recognized her limitations and sought to correct them. For the era, her decision on taking things with Seb to the next level was liberating but she made it with honest introspection for this time period.
Sebastien was pure swoony goodness. He was rather grumpy, definitely protective, and had to fight his reaction to claim Anya when society dictated he could not. I had the best time watching him fall for her, help her through her problems, witness his internal battle against everything that was against them at the end and finally see what a contented Sebastien looks like. I can’t help but wonder if the other heroes in this series are just as swoon worthy.
This is a relatively fun romance with a hero and heroine that kept each other on their toes as well as myself throughout the story. The steam is beyond anything I’m capable of explaining as it left me dry mouthed and turning the a/c down. While there is danger, drama and intrigue interlaced with the perfect amount of light hearted fare, this never felt heavy or bogged down by the issues needing resolution. It was the perfect combination to keep me turning pages.
Definitely recommending this one to those who love their historical romance with a Russian flair!
The Princess and the Rogue by Kate Bateman
Undercover Princess & a Rogue and you will have flames galore!! Anya wants Seb, but if he finds out that she is a Russian Princess will he be willing to play patty cake with her? The sexual tension is all but exploding between the two characters!
Kate Bateman has a flair for writing these scenes and the characters seem to leap off the pages!
There was no point in this book that I was wondering about who was what or I wanted to be doing something else! This book had my undivided attention from start to finish!
If you want to know about this adventure I will say that you are going to get informed on Russia, Paris, London, carriages, and gambling halls! Oh, did I mention brothels to!,,,
This book is inarguably a wonderful read!
Enjoy!
Thank you to the author and publishers for hard-work in producing such great books for us the readers!
I received a advanced copy from NetGalley and this is my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
This is the last book of this amazing series. I loved both characters so much. Anya, the princess of Russia, has a courageous soul. Her fearlessness gives her enough strength to leave her glorious heritage behind and restart a new life with humbleness. She is actually running away from a tyrant and traitor, a man who wants to wed her only for her noble origins. In a bustling England she encounters Sebastian, a noble man who has a glorious past as a soldier. Sebastian is attracted too Anya who is hiding her real identity. Sebastian has had the task to protect Anya and his attraction towards her gets more and more intense until their passion one day breaks out . After a series of twists their lives will be in danger but will their love finally come out? A story that will give the reader wanting more. I actually never wanted this book to end. I fell in love with Sebastian, with his stubbornness and passionate soul. I admit, I envied Anya very much. Through her initial disgrace, she luckily fell into the arms of a wonderful man.
